chapter nineteen
| NINETEEN |
COME UNDONE
Eira spent the rest of night kissing Eric and even through half the day. His hands roamed her legs and removed the stain that had lingered from in the church. But then he started to get bleeds and he had to sleep. Even though her blood allowed him to walk during the daylight, he would get the bleeds if he didn't sleep at some point and he had been awake for quite awhile.
So he slept and she tried to sleep as well while still being held in his arms. But she was a bit restless; she was just too happy to sleep. She still felt a rush of excitement as her blood seemed to buzz just by looking at him.
So she got dressed and left the suite they were in. She meandered around the hallways a bit before she went down to the lobby to eat something. Then she was going to go back to the suite as the sun was beginning to set but she saw Godric already awake. He was sitting on a velvet bench that was pressed against the UV-blocking glass windows as he stared out into the setting sun.
She approached him with a wide smile, "It's beautiful, isn't it?"
Godric turned his head slowly before giving her his attention. He stared at her bright smile as she looked out the window before sitting down next to him as she rambled, "You've probably seen a million sunsets but I feel like it's something that's never not beautiful. Each one is so different."
"They are," Godric agreed rather blankly before said rather wistfully. "But I've always preferred a sunrise."
"I used to think that before Eric," Eira said as her eyes seemed to sparkle just at the thought of him. "But then I met him and I couldn't wait for the sun to go down. The sunset became my favorite time because I knew I'd see him soon."
"You love him very much," Godric grinned slightly before he frowned. "He will need that."
She puzzled over his words, "Why would he need that?"
"Everyone needs love, little one," Godric replied mysteriously.
She stared at him for a moment debating on whether to acquire further before she spoke softly, "Godric, do you have many happy memories?"
"Some."
"You should think of them more often," she suggested quietly and her voice betrayed her worry.
"Do not worry for me, little one," Godric gave her a short smile to reassure her before he gave her a delicate stare. "Worry for yourself and live a life much brighter than mine."
Eira frowned as the sun vanished completely. Then Godric stood before he spoke, "I must go."
And he disappeared as well.
_____
Eira tried to tell Eric that something was off with Godric. He ignored the warning and simply responded that she didn't know him well enough. He didn't want to believe anything was wrong.
They were now in hotel room meeting with Nan Flanagan. Eira was sitting on a bench next to Sookie and Bill while Eric was in a chair beside her. Godric and Isabel were across from her while Nan sat at the front of the room.
"Do you have any fucking idea of the PR mess you've made? And who fucking has to clean that shit up? Me. Not you, me. I should drain every one of you bastards," Nan reprimanded them.
"Stan went after the church on his own. None of us knew anything about it," Eric said.
"Oh, really. Because everyone who met Stan in the last 300 years knew he had a kink about slaughtering humans. But you, his nest mates, his sheriff, had no clue."
"And how were we supposed to know that this time he meant it?" Isabel asked.
"Not my problem," Nan said before looking at Godric. "Yours."
"Don't talk to him that way," Eric warned.
"Don't talk to me that way," Nan stated. "Let's get to the point. How did they manage to abduct you?"
"They would have taken one of us sooner or later. I offered myself," Godric revealed.
"Why?"
"Why not?" Godric retorted and Eric stared at him in realization.
"They wanted you to meet the sun and you were willing?"
"What do you think?"
"I think you're out of your mind. And then I hear about a traitor."
"Irrelevant. Only a rumor, I'll take full responsibility."
"You bet you will."
"You cold bitch," Eric glared.
"Listen, this is a national vampire disaster and nobody at the top has any sympathy for any of you. Sheriff, you fսckеd up. You're fired."
"I agree. Of course, Isabel should take over. She had no part in my disgrace."
"Godric, fight back," Isabel stated.
"What are you saying? She's a bureaucrat, you don't have to take shit from her," Eric said angrily.
"You wanna lose your area, Viking?"
"You don't have that kind of power."
"Hey, I'm on TV. Try me."
"I'm to blame. I should have contained Stan the second Godric went missing..." Isabel tried to take the blame.
"Isabel," Godric interrupted and his voice commanded her to keep silent. "I remove myself from all positions of authority."
"Works for me."
And then Sookie spoke up and Eira cringed as no vampire would listen to a human. She spoke as she gestured between Eira and herself, "Ms. Flanagan, Godric rescued us from a really large rapіst who probably would've killed us too...."
"That's nice," Nan said sarcastically.
"No, listen...And then he rescued humans in that church plus a whole lot of vampires. You think it's a PR mess now, it could have been a hundred, a million times worse. You should thank him."
"For getting kidnapped? For attracting a suicide bomber?"
And that's when Eira decided to speak up. Since Sookie did, she would throw her hat in the ring, too, as she interrupted Nan, "Godric isn't responsible for what a vampire-hating church decides to make its members do. A suicide bombing could've happened at any point in time."
Nan glared, "Maybe but he had piss-poor judgment..."
Eric was up in an instant and went to attack Nan but Isabel placed herself in front of him before Godric spoke, "Eric, it doesn't matter."
Eric clenched his jaw but reluctantly went back to his seat before Nan spoke again to Godric, "Tell me about the bombing, please. Every single detail."
"A boy walked in the lair. I thought he was someone's human companion...."
_____
There was a bit more explaining and answering questions that had to be done. But the interrogation was now over.
"What a fucking fiasco. You're lucky I don't send you all to the Magister. Godric, come to my suite to fill out the forms."
"Soon. First I have something to say. I'm sorry. I apologize for all the harm I've caused, for all our lost ones, human and vampire. I will make amends, I swear it."
"Take it easy, it's just a few signatures," Nan said before leaving the room.
Godric went to leave as well but Eric stood in front of him as he realized what Godric planned to do as he refused, "No."
Eira watched them tearfully.
"Look in my heart."
"You have to listen to me."
"There's nothing to say."
"There is."
"On the roof," Godric said before leaving the room. Eric followed him and she left the room as well. She waited for Eric at the stairs that went to the roof. She thought it was best to give them privacy to talk.
It wasn't long before Eric came down stairs with the stains of bloody tears as he spoke, "He won't let me stay with him."
The sun wasn't any danger to him but Godric wouldn't let him stay. He had commanded him to go and he had no choice but to follow the order.
Eira grabbed his hand gently as she promised, "I'll stay."
Eric nodded and she went up the staircase. She joined Godric on the roof and he was the first one to speak, "It won't take long. Not at my age. You'll look after him, won't you? Eric?"
"Of course but you won't reconsider?" Eira said tearfully. "Just for Eric's sake."
"I do not belong here anymore," Godric stated.
"Please, Godric," Eira pleaded. "You could even live in the sun. I'd give you my blood."
"I would not deserve it," Godric stared at her softly.
"Of course you do. You're kind and you're merciful."
"I wasn't always this way," Godric said sadly. "I've done many horrible things."
"And so has Eric. But there's good in him and there's good in you," Eira argued as the sun started to rise.
"I want to burn," he actually smiled like the thought gave him joy and she started to cry as steam rose from his skin.
"A human with me at the end, and human tears," Godric smiled in surprise. "Two thousand years, and I can still be surprised. In this, I see God."
Godric stepped away from her as the sun became high enough. He walked towards the edge of the roof and removed his shirt. Eira sobbed as the sunlight hit him and his body was set alight into beautiful, blue flame that quickly dissipated into the air. And he was gone.
______
Eira found Eric in the suite sitting on the bed. He had blood stains down his cheeks and his tears even stained his shirt from where his tears fell from his face. She moved slowly until she was in front of him.
"He's gone," he stated painfully.
"I'm sorry," she nodded as she sniffled before she moved forward and wrapped her arms around his neck in a gentle hug. But Eric wrapped his arms around her waist tightly as he buried his head against her shoulder. She stroked his hair as she felt silent tears soak her shirt.
After awhile, they had moved to lying on the bed. He had stopped crying but he hadn't wiped the tears from his eyes. He was tracing the lines of her hand as he laid beside her as it seemed to calm him.
"When I turn you, you can't ever feel like that," Eric spoke quietly.
"I felt like that after my mother died...but I had you," she revealed before she promised. "I won't leave you."
"And you can't leave me either," she said fearfully.
Eric pulled her closer to him and cradled her against his chest. He pressed a kiss to the top of her head before he promised, "Never."
AN: sorry but Godric couldn't stay. I believe if Eira had met him earlier, she could've changed his mind but sadly they didn't. So here we are
Anyways, I'll finish season two in the next chapter. Then season 3 will be super short with probably only 5 chapters and then part 2 will start with my own plot. I probably won't start writing for part 2 until the summer because I start back school Monday but we'll see. I'm going to try to finish part 1 completely before I start back Monday though
