FOREVER

⊱ ────── {.⋅ ✯ ⋅.} ────── ⊰

JILL and Adela had finally made their way into the underground portion of the mansion. After investigating for what seemed like ages, they had found that the mansion was used by Umbrella to maintain the secrecy of the Progenitor Virus.

"I knew it. I fucking knew it." Adela huffed, walking beside Jill with her gun in her hands. "What did I tell you? I knew this place was fucking fishy. Who places a mansion in the middle of the forest?" She rambled, shaking her head in disbelief.

"Adela, calm down." Jill sighed heavily, holding her hand up before Adela could interrupt. "I know this news is shocking but you got to keep it together. At the end of the day, we're still trying to survive." Jill placed a hand on Adela's shoulder.

Adela completely ignored what Jill said, an insane amount of thoughts and worries rushing through her head.

"What if this was the plan along? What if we're just their guinea pigs?" Adela asked, her eyes widening. "This whole thing was a test to see if we had what it—"

There was a sound in the near distance. A voice to be precise. A familiar one. Jill furrowed her eyebrows at the voice, immediately shushing Adela.

Adela scoffed. "Hey, I was onto—"

"Shut up. I know that voice." Jill interrupted, making her way towards the sound. Adela opened her mouth to say something, immediately shutting it once she heard the voice as well.

"Is anyone out there?!" The voice rang out. Adela and Jill's eyes widened, turning to each other. Could it really be Chris Redfield? Was he really alive?

"Chris?!" Jill called out, her voice echoing through the halls.

"Jill?!" Chris called back. "I'm here! I'm right here!"

Jill was ready to run, only for Adela to stop her. Adela grabbed Jill's arm, a worried expression on her face.

"Jill, what if it's a trap? What if they're using Chris as bait?" Adela whispered, keeping her grip on her partner's arm.

Jill stood quiet before taking her gun out of her holster again. "Stay armed... just in case we happen to fall into a trap."

Adela hesitated a bit before taking her gun back out of her holster. She so desperately wanted to see Chris. She'd do anything just to see his dorky face again. However, after being thrown into the ringer so many times in one night, she wasn't sure if this was apart of Umbrella's plans or not.

"Hey... I got your back." Jill reassured, her facial expressions softening. She couldn't blame Adela. Their whole night in this mansion had been literal hell. From watching their friends die from the the deadly experiments Umbrella had created to not being able to trust certain people within their group. This night had been nothing but a mental toll on the two women. She didn't blame Adela for being extra cautious.

Adela took a deep breath, giving Jill a weak smile. Seeing how Jill was able to control her emotions during stressful times like these just made Adela admire her more. The way she was able to calm down with Jill's words made her stomach flutter.

Jill gave Adela a subtle nod before carefully making her way down the hallway. She could practically feel her heart pounding in her chest. If this wasn't a trick, they had finally found Chris. They had finally found her partner in crime.

The duo turned around the corner, only to see a row prison doors lined down the hall. "Chris?!" Jill called out again.

"Jill! I'm here!" Chris shouted. Jill ran towards the noise, Adela following after her.

Chris walked up to the door, looking out of the barred window it had. "Jill, Adela!" He chirped with a bright, relieved grin.

"Holy shit... Chris! You're alive!" Jill remarked, letting out a laugh.

"Of course I'm alive. Why wouldn't I be?" Chris teased with a playful grin on his face.

Adela rolled her eyes. "Glad to see that the trauma hasn't changed your sense of humor." She joked.

Chris laughed in response before giving the two a soft smile. "I'm glad you're both okay. However, we have bigger matters to discuss." He began.

Both Jill and Adela turned to each other before looking back at Chris. "What's going on? What have you heard?" Jill inquired, growing sick her to stomach. Oh God. Whatever it may be, there was nothing good to it.

"It's hard to explain because there's not enough time... but, there's something big going on down here. We're just interfering... we're not apart of the equation." Chris responded.

"Apart of the equation? Chris, what the fuck are you talking about?" Adela looked around the halls, making sure that there were no other people roaming the halls.

Jill shook her head. "We have to get you out of here.. Adela, help." She grabbed on the doorknob, starting to pull on it. Adela shook her head, watching her.

"Looks like we have another key to find." Adela huffed, shaking her head. "Sit tight. We'll be back."

"Okay. Not sightseeing, though." Chris joked, a small smile tugging on Adela's lips.

"No promises, muscles." Adela called back, walking off with Jill.

"Thank God it wasn't a trap." Jill let out a sigh in relief, following Adela.

"If we free Chris, the three of us could find a way out of here... we'll be free Jill." Adela let out softly, tears brimming in her eyes. She could practically taste their freedom with every step made.

"Yeah." Jill breathed out, furrowing her eyebrows as she thought back on their previous conversation.

"Adela." She spoke up, Adela humming in response. "I know I apologized earlier but I really am sorry. I am. You're my best friend a-and I'm just trying to figure things out. I—"

"Jill, I accepted your apology... it's all good." Adela interrupted. "You said some hurtful shit but you're just figuring things out. I can't blame you for that." She began, staying quiet for a good five seconds.

"I'm sorry for speaking on your dad." Adela apologized. "It was fucking shitty and I know how sensitive you are to that. I'm so so so sorry."

"It's fine... it's— water under the bridge." Jill shrugged, growing silent afterwards.

"I— I'm glad we got things aired out... kind of... but—"

"But?" Jill raised an eyebrow at Adela's words.

"I still think we should go our separate ways after this." Adela revealed. Jill's heart shattered in pieces, her chest aching from the news she just received. Because of the way she treated her, she was going to lose Adela forever.

"Delly, I'm sorry. I didn't—"

"I know you are, Jill." Adela sighed, putting her gun into her holster. "Stop walking for a minute."

Jill obeyed, putting her gun into her own holster as well. "Adela, please don't do this." She let out, her voice barely above a whisper. Her whole "stone cold" facade from earlier was down and she was now showing a more vulnerable side to her. She couldn't lose Adela! She was her best friend. She partner in crime. She fucking loved her.

"Please don't do this. Please... I can't—" Jill broke down in tears, her bottom lip trembling. "I don't want to lose you. I can't lose you, Delly. Please don't." She sobbed.

Adela frowned, her heart aching as well. She hated seeing Jill like this. As much as she still wanted Jill to be apart of her life, she knew that wasn't going to happen. Jill was going to stay in Raccoon City and Adela was going to Ohio. The two would be several hours apart and neither of them were going to have time to see each other. It was better this way. At least Adela thought it was.

"Jill, it's for the best." Adela started, trying her hardest not to break down. Why was this so hard? Why was Jill making it so difficult? Why couldn't Jill just accept this?

"We're not going to be able to see each other with how chaotic our lives are." Adela reasoned. "I love you, Jill. I always will but this is what needs to happen. You're better off without me anyways."

"No I'm not. Don't fucking say that Adela because you know I'm not." Jill disagreed, her bottom lip trembling. "Adela..."

Adela cupped Jill's face, pressing her forehead against Jill's. "Jill... it's for the best. For you and for me." She whispered. "I love you so much. I'm doing this for you."

Jill could barely speak. Every time she opened her mouth, she let out a whimper. Her heart ached just thinking about Adela leaving her life forever. After everything they've been through.

Adela hesitated before leaning in. She placed her lips onto Jill's, holding her face as they kissed. This time, Jill didn't fight it. She kissed back, placing her hands on her hips.

It was bittersweet. Jill had been wanting to kiss Adela again. Not like this though. She wanted this kiss to be special. She wanted this kiss to change everything. She wanted Adela to be hers and now she couldn't.

This kiss was a drug. It felt so right at the moment. The way their lips connected together, Adela's skin on hers. However, this was going to hurt her in the end.

After a while, the two pulled away and pressed their foreheads against each other, just indulging in the silence.

"I love you too, Delly."
