letters from the past. (part two) 。[1979] 。

"Hello?" A fairly deep voice asked through the phone. You stiffened up, taking all the effects of reality in.

"Michael? It's me...(Y/N)," you whispered lowly. A pause went through the landline.

Michael slowly put the phone down and combed through his coarse Afro. He picked it back up and smiled.

"Hey there, girl. I haven't seen you in years! You look great!" His sentence followed in a fit of giggles and your abundant laughter.

You covered your mouth at his flirtatiousness. "Thank you. And you don't look a second over twenty-one. So...I got your letter. Where are you, exactly?" You questioned with curiosity.

He grabbed a pen and clicked it. You could hear him lightly scribble an address and phone number on the notepad, closest to him.

"I wrote some directions on how to get here. Nobody knows, but you. I'll be here until eleven o'clock. I'll drop this in the mail and you'll get it by tomorrow."

You nodded. Wherever Michael was didn't seem too far, however, it was: far away from you.

"Okay. How much longer do you have to talk to me? Are you stationed in the army somewhere? You always leave at that time, too," you asked.

He released shallow breaths into the receiver, drumming his long fingers across the wooden table, by the phone.

It never occurred to him that he'd have to explain everything to you: over the phone where the line could be tapped, that is.

"I'm closer than you think. Hold on, babygirl. Read my letter. I'll be on the other side, soon. Goodnight. Get some rest. Love you, bye."

Michael pressed down on the reviewer button and hung the phone up, silently.

You put the phone down and laid back against the white doorframe.

This letter could be the answer I've been looking for, for a long time. When it arrives, nobody can stop me from getting there.
