Backbone

Just get over it
And grow a spine,
They all say

But what they don't know
Is that it's a lot harder
Than they
Think

To let go, just grow
And forget.
To drop those things
That burn the innermost corners of your head
How can you just instantly forget them?

They are unrealistic
In their expectations
They desire conformity
Between you
And their generically sculpted mold.

Oh, you are created for more
Than what they see
You are more on the inside
Than they will ever know
Their forceful accusations
Add to the problem, are not the cure

So you see, once they yell at you
They still leave you to drown alone.
Can't they see it's already too heavy of a load?

How can one soul bear so much weight?
How many things must fill your plate?
How many people will take your place
Only to find there is none comparable?

Why do they insist on breaking you down?
Do they desire your decomposition
To aid in fertilizing this barren, lifeless ground?
Do they not realize you have a purpose?
That each one of us is built for something profound?

Unequal merit, insufficiency
Lack of tact and integrity
Judgement the curse of all humanity,
For who are we to judge?

In a world where we can be whatever we wish
(Or so we are led to believe)
Be strong and understanding-
For everyone you meet
Is fighting a hard battle

Yet they say to just get over it
They say to grow a spine
How do they know the hells you've been through?
How do they know
Whether you've struggled all your life?
Where's Compassion?
Where's Mercy?
Why does NOBODY care?
Why are we not allowed to break?

No one is innocent
We're all to blame-
Our planet is growing but it aches
For SHAME, for SHAME
We are careless and live in VAIN.

We are all human beings,
And regardless your stature, color, or race-
None are greater
All are equal
So stop pointing your fingers at others
And go look in your mirror.
