CHAPTER 31
SAMS POV
I didn't go to school the next day. Apparently my Mom had a stern talking for me when I woke up along when my Dad wakes up and finds out the truth I was making out with Sammy.
I sat on my bed, not wanting to walk out of my bedroom, and feel the wrath of my parents who probably are waiting for me downstairs.
Sammy had blown my phone up last night on regular messaging asking if I was okay, and what was going on. To call him when I woke up, and I smiled slightly at his messages.
Sammy: please text me when you wake up. I'm worried
Sammy: it's like 4am and I keep waking up thinking about you, please respond when you wake up or let me know what's going on
Sammy: it's 9am are you okay?
Sam: Good morning Sammy, I'm awake. Didn't have a chance to talk to my Mom last night...we'll see how things unfold this morning
Before I could even set my phone down my phone was pinned with a notification from Sammy making me giggle.
Sammy: okay good I was so worried about you. you don't understand how much strength it took me to not intervene with your mom and you last night
Sam: It's alright, it's best you didn't. She was a messed up wreck last night...
Sammy: I know...everything is gonna be alright, okay? tell me how everything goes afterward. the second I receive nasty messages from my parents I'll know the talk you guys had is over and we can forget everything and go back to normal
Sam: Thanks Sammy <3 don't get in too much trouble at school ;)
Sammy: I'm gonna make sure to get in enough trouble for the both of us ;)
I smiled as my heart warmed at his messages.
Looks like I should get ready for the day of disaster. I jumped up from my bed and walked over to my mirror as I flinched back at my reflection. My red hair was a mess, almost as if rats lived in it, and...was that...a hickey on my neck??
Sammy Sandars.
Oh, he's so dead.
I whipped my head towards my phone and picked it up to start typing.
Sam: Explain the hickey on my neck.
Sammy: oh yeah, I forgot to tell you there might be a small mark
Sam: SMALL?? Do I need to send a picture?
Sammy: please send a picture :)
Sam: Next time I see you, there will be no more making out. Just a middle school relationship that's it.
Sammy: well, last night you seemed to like it. also, did you just say we have a relationship??
I threw my head back at my own words as I looked up at the ceiling as if it was going to help me.
Sam: A middle school one, yes :)
I threw my phone back down onto my bed, making sure not to get distracted anymore as I grabbed my makeup off my dresser and started to apply what I could to my neck to make it look more natural along with doing my own makeup.
Not long after, I was fully done and looked more presentable as I brushed down the mess of my hair into a ponytail, and put on something other than pajamas.
Might as well look decent as my parents scold me for kissing up on the son of their enemy.
I sucked in a breath as I stood in the mirror, and patted down my jeans. Here goes nothing, right?
I'm sure they're waiting for me down there.
I slowly make my way out of my room with anxiety starting to rise in my chest. I knew what I did was bad to them, but it's my love life, I don't understand why it should matter so much even if he's the son of the Sandars.
I made my way around the corner of the stairs and soon met eyes with my parents as I appeared from the hall. They were sitting at the kitchen table, my father with his typical glasses sitting on the brim of his nose as he typed away on his laptop.
Probably from his new job he had from home. It was some type of income.
More than what my Mother was doing...she had been struggling to find a job and just decided to give up while my Father worked for us all. Ever since they lost the cafe, this family had been falling to pieces.
They acted like I couldn't tell it was even driving tension in their own relationship.
"Good morning." I squeaked.
"Sam, sit." My Mother directed her attention to the chair in front of them, and I swallowed nervously before doing as she said.
My eyes didn't meet theirs, especially my Dad's eyes. I hadn't known his reaction yet.
"Had a pretty fun night, huh?" She continued, and my mind went back to Sammy.
Well, yeah I did Mom, but I'm not telling you that. Especially how the images of me making out with Sammy from his front seat were definitely not leaving my mind anytime soon.
"I guess." I lied, staring down at the table before meeting my eyes up to my Father, and he was just looking between us both.
As if he was confused.
Great, she didn't tell him.
"Go on, and tell your dad what you did last night."
"Mom..."
"Sam? What is she talking about?" My Dad closed his computer screen slightly as he flickered his eyes between the two of us.
I sighed, "I did things you would not approve of."
"Oh, honey, did you get high for the first time or something?" He set his glasses on the table as his words were in a joking manner, I knew soon they wouldn't be.
"No, Mom caught me kissing a boy." I looked back at her, and she rolled her eyes at my vague response.
"Sammy Sandars is the boy. I will not tolerate her running around with him." She directed her words more towards my Father, and his eyes widened slightly at the news, but soon went back to normal.
At this point, the anger in me was rising. I tried to always be as respectful as I could with my parents, but my Mother was testing my limits.
"How come?" I snapped, "What other things do you know about him other than how you despise his parents?"
"He's no good, Sam!" She shot me an unpleased look, "I don't want you around something that family has raised."
I scrunched my eyebrows together as I scoffed, "You are so selfish, aren't you?"
"Selfish?! I had to find you in the front yard hiding away a boy we told you for years to stay away from, just for you to go and have sex with him in his car out of all places?!" My Mom's voice rose to a higher notch as she clenched her jaw.
"What?!" My Dad's eyes darted towards me, and I threw my head back.
"I never had sex with him!"
"Are you sure? You were in the middle of taking his clothes off when I went out there." She shook her head before taking a drink out of her glass.
"Enough!" My Father's words echoed through the house silencing us both, "Sam, I'm disappointed you would go behind our backs to be with Sammy. Not to mention he is the son of the people we hate most in this world. The people who shut our diner down..." He continued on, making my eyes fall to the floor.
"I know...but that's his parents."
"And he lives under the same roof, same blood, he's just like the rest of them. I don't want you getting hurt, Sam."
I sat there in silence as I wrapped my arms around my waist. I wish it didn't have to be this way. I could just bring Sammy over without sneaking him in, and my parents be so inviting, but it seems like that'll never be the case.
"If you don't want me to be with him so badly then explain the situation with his parents. What happened? Why is me kissing their son such a big deal?"
My Dad sighs as he takes a small glance at my Mom, who didn't even spare one back at him.
"Listen, honey...it's a really long story."
"Please, Dad?" I pleaded, and he slowly nodded in agreement.
"As well all know, his parents are awful people, which makes it that hard to believe that we were all best friends at one point in our life. His Mother, and your Mom. His Father and I were all so close..." He made a disgusted face as he scrunched his nose up, "They never were good people though, they are the type that would do anything to get what they wanted which is exactly what they did."
I processed the words of my Dad, and by the sound of it all, he was correct. From what I've learned from Sammy, they don't even care about their own son just so they can make money.
"We all went to college together, became the best of friends, who all happened to have the same dream. We all dreamed of having our own business after getting our business degrees. All of us always wanted to own one in our life so we said, what the hell? Why not own one together as the good friends we were." He scoffed as he looked up as he was remembering it, "Yeah we made the idea up as a group, but they took the idea and ran with it."
"They what?" I scrunched my brows together, and he nodded.
"That idea became bigger than we originally thought it would. An animal cafe, which sounds stupid because there are tons now, but back then there weren't many. We all loved animals and thought it'd be so fun working together as friends, being around the animals, and having coffee, but one day we started seeing posters of it being opened...without us. Once it started collecting cash they just ended up going up from there." He shrugged with his eyes meeting back to mine, and I was shocked.
"So...if they hadn't done that...then you would have all of had a good income? Instead, they left you two?"
"With no hesitation, just took it and ran with it. They didn't tell us, we just found out on our own, and when we did find out, they got mad we weren't supportive."
"So, I don't get it, why did they want to shut your diner down so bad?" I was curious, it made no sense at all why the Sandars hated us so much for something they did.
"Because we had our own business running even after them doing such a thing to us. They were jealous, and only cared about money." He sighed.
"So, who knows if Sammy is the same as them. Most likely, he is." My Mom pitched in, and I mentally rolled my eyes as she was trying to compare Sammy to his own parents.
"Listen, honey," My Dad reached his hands over the table to my own, making me look up at him, "I don't care who you date..."
"I'm not dating him." I quickly corrected him with a red tint washing over my face, making him raise an eyebrow.
"Okay...who you kiss? You'll always be my little girl, we love you. It's a hard pill to swallow, not going to lie. If things were to escalate between you and Sammy...I don't know. I'm just disappointed you hid it, and even more so it's the son of the Sandars." My heart warmed at the beginning of his sentence then it soon turned cold as I heard the word nobody loves to hear.
Disappointed.
"I understand." My voice was quiet, but I was tired of the conversation. I just wanted it to be over with.
"I'm going to find his parent's number, and text them though, and you will not be seeing that boy except for school." My Mother tried to put her ending statement in which just made me roll my eyes.
At this point, it felt like my parents were on different sides without saying they were.
My Dad didn't care, he was just disappointed and my Mother absolutely still despises Sammy, and that's the reason she's even contacting his parents.
So we have to stay away from each other.
"Okay." I responded, and with that, I stood up with a fake smile, "Good talk."

Sam: In conclusion, our families will forever hate each other, and we probably won't be able to see each other outside of school for a while.
I sent a text message right away to Sammy, hoping for a response back soon. I just wanted to talk to him after that stressful family talk.
I'm even more confused after it happened.
I lay on my back as I looked up at the ceiling. What is my life anymore?
So many things are running through my head that it's hard to even comprehend. At this point, I don't give a shit if my parents are mad or not that I'm talking to Sammy. I'm just worried about what his parents are going to do.
Sammy: we've managed to sneak around, I think we can still manage it ;)
My heart fluttered at his text message, and I couldn't help but smile.
Sam: Are you sure? My Mom said she was going to text your parents...
Sammy: sam, let's be honest here. nothings kept me away from you before
I rolled my eyes as the smile never left my lips.
Sam: Oh I know, you seem to always follow me around
Sammy: it's hard not to
Sam: Huh, who would've thought you would be such a romantic
Sammy: hey, I never thought I was either until now. you make my smooth moves come out
Sam: Alright now...someone's getting cocky
I giggle as I place my phone down on my dresser.
I like Sammy Sandars.
And when I say I like him...
I mean I was falling for him, and I was falling fast.
