CHAPTER 11
The sunlight beamed in from the top openings of the tent, making me squeeze my eyes shut at the sudden discomfort. Birds were chirping in the background, and it felt quite chilly this morning even with the two blankets I had stolen from Skye.
I flutter my eyes open to see Sammy on the complete end of the tent as me.
Ha, take that Skye and Ryan. We still set boundaries even when you took ours away.
My eyes closed shut for another moment as I tried to process what was going on, and what happened the night before.
Great, here comes the headache I most likely deserved from being the annoying person I am when I'm drunk.
Sudden movement came from the opposite end, making me open my eyes catching sight of Sammy stirring in his sleep. His brown eyes opened slightly, with ours connecting and once they did he groaned.
"Damn, thought this was a nightmare, but it's real." He spoke, and his voice was quite attractive when waking up.
Surprising.
"Shut up, Sammy. It's too early in the morning for this." I replied, taking a deep breath in.
"Says the one who broke my hand last night."
"How does that even...wait what?!" I shot my eyes back at Sammy, shooting up from my position.
"Uh-huh," he raised his left hand in the air, showing off how swollen it was now with different shades of purples.
My eyes could barely believe what I was saying, "It's broken?" I asked more to myself than anything.
"It's fine, it gets me out of doing chores." He replied, raising it down slowly and I watched in disbelief.
"Good thing you're right-handed?" I tried making the situation better, but he shook his head.
"Left-handed."
"Of course you are." I ran a hand through my hair before standing up. "I hate to apologize to you out of all people, but damn, that looks painful. I'm sorry."
A grin was plastered on his face as he continued to lay down, looking up at me with playfulness sparkling in his eyes, "Wait, what was that?"
"Sammy..." My voice sternly warned him.
"Sam, but my hand." He frowned, raising it in front of me again. "It needs to be apologized to."
"I just did!"
"More, keep it coming."
"I hate you with all my heart." I crossed my arms, before walking over to the front to unzip the tent.
"I could tell by the way you broke my hand last night, never took you as a fighter." His voice was calm, but I could sense the laughter he was trying to cover up.
"You know what, good! I'm glad it's broken." I gave him a look of satisfaction before stepping out of the tent to be met with Skye and Ryan cuddling up on a chair overlooking the view.
I smiled, "Good morning love birds."
"Morning, Sam!" Skye jumped out of her seat with Ryan and wrapped me in a hug. "You feeling okay?"
"Just a headache, but what did I expect?" I laughed, shrugging a shoulder before sitting down across from Ryan.
"Water?" Ryan asked, leaning over to the cooler and I nodded as he tossed me cold water.
"Thanks." I thanked him and looked over at the view as well.
The sound of a zipper came from a tent, and we all know who that is...
Sammy.
Which I did feel quite bad for breaking his hand, I have no idea how I managed to do such a thing.
"Good morning sunshine!" Ryan cheered from his seat, making me grin at his humor.
"Ryan, why so cheery this morning? It's almost like you two are...glowing?" He widened his eyes in shock, but clear sarcasm was in his voice. "It's almost like you two did unholy things last night?"
Sammy walked over and grabbed a water with a glare from Ryan following him as he did so.
"I'm never being nice to you again." Ryan huffed before catching sight of Sammy's hand. "What the hell happened to your hand, man?!"
A smile of satisfaction rose on his lips as his eyes slowly moved over to me. "You know? I asked myself the same thing after Sam decided to knock us on the ground, breaking my hand in the process." He sat down next to me with a smirk on his face, and I so badly wanted to slap it off him.
"Sam!" Skye's eyes widen in horror, "How drunk were you?"
"Too drunk."
"Obviously, but really guys, can we hurry and leave? I kinda need to make a trip to the hospital." Sammy held onto his hand, and I don't know how he went too long but as soon as he said those words, everyone started to pack up all the things.
It didn't even take 30 minutes to get the tents down and whatnot.
We made it to the cars and said our goodbyes, kisses, and hugs were exchanged from Ryan and Skye.
And death stares, and middle fingers were exchanged from me and Sammy.
I grabbed my phone out of my purse as soon as Skye and I were on our way back home, being ever so thankful to finally get service again.
"Thank you! I got two bars! That's more than I had the whole night." I explained, and Skye laughed as she shook her head.
A message from Sammy a few nights back was still unopened on my phone, and I decided to finally answer so he didn't think Eviee was dead.
Sammy: do you think ghosts are real?
I giggled at his odd question but answered anyway.
Eviee: If I thought they weren't real I feel like they would haunt me
I put my phone down and slowly turned to Skye who was driving. "Soooo, spill the tea."
"What tea??" Skye joked as her cheeks reddened.
"The tea of you and Ryan." I wiggled my eyebrows.
"Okay, okay." She laughed as she made a turn onto a street, "It was a good night, to say the least."
"Uh-huh, I can tell by the hickey on your neck." I grinned, leaning forward to get a better look at her neck and her eyes widened in fear.
"What?!"
"Yeah," I sucked in air with my teeth as I inspected it, "Good thing you own good makeup."
"I mean," she rubbed her neck before placing her hand back on the steering wheel, "Oh well, did you have fun?"
I rolled my eyes playfully at her response and shrugged my shoulders, "I had fun with everyone but Sammy."
"Of course, you would say that, but I respect it. Sorry about not telling you about him, but I just wanted you to have some fun." She glanced at me with a sympathetic look before looking back at the road.
"No, I do appreciate the place you were coming from" I gave her a warm smile.
She smiled back, and with that, the music from the radio played in the car quietly.
*******
"Home Sweet Home, I'm home!" I called out as I opened the front door.
"Sam?" My Mother called out from the kitchen, and I could smell such amazing smells coming from there.
I walk into the kitchen to see my Father at the kitchen island on his laptop, probably doing something related to work due to how he was wearing his glasses on the brim of his nose, and my Mother, well she seemed to be cooking her amazing spaghetti.
I took a big breath in of the delicious air before greeting my Mother in a hug.
"Have fun on your little trip?" Mom asked, stirring the noodles in the process.
"Yeah," I admitted, plopping down beside Dad at the island. "We just went camping."
"Was there drinking?" Dad asked, taking off his glasses being more serious now.
"They were drinking," I admit, leaving out the part about how I got so drunk I had broken Sammy's hand.
"You know how we feel about drinking, Sam. It's not allowed." Mom piped into the conversation.
"Guys! I know, I know."
My parents despised drinking, they never drank themselves, especially after my brother's death.
"If we find out you're lying, you'll be sleeping outside." My Mom joked, but I knew she was partially being serious.
I giggled, "Yeah, yeah."
Suddenly my phone buzzed from my purse, making me grab it out to read Sammy's message on the screen.
Sammy: huh, never thought of it in that way but I disagree. believing in ghosts is underrated.
He had replied to his message from earlier about whether ghosts were real or not, and I furrowed my eyebrows together.
Eviee: I always knew something was off about you.
"Who you texting?" My Mom asked as she was finishing up the spaghetti.
"Huh?" I glanced up at my Mom staring me down in curiosity.
"Is it a boy?" She smirked, and I rolled my eyes at her comment.
She's been hoping that my mind would travel off Travis and onto someone else.
"What? Mom, no!" I giggled, placing my phone down where the screen was facing down. "It was just Skye talking about the weekend."
"Ah, I see. I'm glad you got out of the house, you should plan more trips like that." She smiled, getting the plates out as she started to set the dining table.
"That was all Skye's planning, not mine, but yeah, it was fun." I shrugged a shoulder as I stood up to help my Mom set the table.
She gave me a warm smile, and we all ended up sitting down for dinner.
Little did she know, Sammy was the one I was texting as someone else.
I don't know if she would be happy with what I was doing or not, but either way.
It's a secret I'm keeping from both my parents.
