Chapter 32

( I'm getting confused, so forgive me if I accidently put the wrong chapter number)

" Woah... WOAH!" Mia spun all over the place, keeping balance on one foot.

" Easy, Mia. We don't need to get frostbitten." Nelson said cautiously.

" You don't have to tell me twice!" Blackie meowed, his fur hanging on its end.

Just then, a thundering sound erupted in the cave, and it shot Mia's rock, breaking it. Mia was sent flying down as she screamed like a toddler, then remembered- she was the wind ninja! She could just manipulate the wind!

... If she had the time.

Because at that moment, Nelson realized his girlfriend was falling. " Mia!" he screeched, grasping her hand. Mia caught it, and Nelson grunted as he hoisted her up.

But, just as she was on her feet again, lightning hit the rock they were standing on!

" Jump!" Mia yelled, grabbing Nelson's arm and Blackie's body as they jumped to the other rock... and then to the other!

" This cave... has a way.... of keeping us on our... toes!" Nelson panted, gasping for breath as he stopped for a moment. Lightning struck that platform, and Nelson was forced to move once more.

" You're telling me!" Blackie panted, attempting to lick his frazzled paws while running.

Mia, who decided to scan the cave, looked up at the ceiling to find..... nothing. An idea struck to her mind.

" Hang on tight!"  Mia said, grabbing Nelson and Blackie once more and taking flight.

" Oh, yeah! We're making some real progress now!" Nelson cheered.

And Mia smiled, content.

For only five seconds.

Because then, stalactites started dropping on their heads. Mia, who had not expected this, wildly swerved around them.

" This is outrageous!" Nelson cried, turning to his Jake form. This gave Mia another idea.

" Nelson, do you think you could shape-shift into Master Wu?"

" What?!" Nelson was bedwelled.

" Just do it!" Mia cried, swerving again.

Nelson, who had no idea why, just shrugged and transformed. Immediately, the stalactites stopped attacking them.

" Apologies, master." The cave echoed.

Nelson, now a copy of Master Wu complete with flowing beard and staff, stared back at Mia in utter bewilderment. His voice, when it finally came out, was a squeak. "Uh... apologies accepted?"

Mia, clinging to his arm for dear life as she continued her erratic flight pattern, snorted with laughter. "That's the best you can do?"

Blackie, fur bristling and claws extended, hissed in agreement. "Seriously, Nelson? A little more conviction wouldn't hurt!"

" What am I supposed to do? Ask them for tea?" Nelson retorted back.

Blackie, clinging onto Nelson's back with surprising tenacity, let out a small hiss. "This is getting weirder by the second."

Mia, still soaring through the air to avoid the ever-present stalactites, grinned. "See? It worked! Now, act like Master Wu. Gruff, wise, and slightly annoyed."

Nelson, ever the loyal teammate, puffed out his chest (or at least, tried to) and adopted a gruff tone. "Silence, cave! Do you not recognize the mighty Spinjitzu Master Wu?"

His voice boomed through the cavern, echoing off the walls with surprising power. The stalactites, as if cowed by the sudden proclamation, hung motionless from the ceiling.

Blackie, clinging to Nelson's  shoulder with surprising tenacity, let out a triumphant meow. "See? I told you we just needed the right approach!"

Mia, relieved by the sudden ceasefire, chuckled. "Nice job, Nelson. You almost sound like him."

"Almost?" Nelson grumbled, his voice returning to its normal pitch. "This is weird. Why did that work?"

Mia, however, was already scanning the path ahead, her eyes searching for the shimmering trail of creation energy. "I don't know," she admitted. "But maybe, just maybe, this cave respects strength and authority. And who better to impersonate than the legendary Master Wu himself?"

As they continued their flight, Nelson maintained the illusion of Master Wu. They weaved through a treacherous maze of stalactites, their path illuminated by the faint glow of the creation energy shards. The silence was broken only by the soft whoosh of wind as Mia navigated the treacherous airspace.

"This is definitely a shortcut," Nelson remarked, his voice laced with a hint of nervousness. "But are you sure it's leading us to the waterfall?"

Mia nodded, her brow furrowed in concentration. "The trail hasn't led us astray yet. Besides, where else could Master Wu be trapped?"

Suddenly, the shimmering trail seemed to intensify ahead, converging on a single point. As they drew closer, a faint outline materialized through the cave wall – a massive stone archway cascading with water.

"The waterfall!" Nelson exclaimed, a mixture of relief and awe washing over him.

They hovered before the archway, the deafening roar of the waterfall filling their ears. The air shimmered with a cool mist, a stark contrast to the oppressive heat of the cave.

"There you are, Master Wu," Nelson boomed, channeling his inner Wu once more. "We've come to rescue you!"

" Nelson, we don't need that tone anymore." Mia reminded him.

" I know. I can't get rid of it, though."

" Haha. very funny."

Nelson tried again. " Master?! Master Wu?! Wu?! MASTER WUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU?!"

Disbelief washed over Nelson as his voice, disguised as Master Wu's, faded into the roar of the waterfall. The stone archway revealed not a trapped ninja master, but a natural formation eerily resembling a wizened old man, complete with flowing beard and a staff-like stalactite jutting out from its base.

Mia landed awkwardly on a nearby rock, the wind momentarily leaving her sails. "Oh," she said, the air whooshing out of her in a single breath. Blackie let out a disgruntled meow, his fur plastered flat against his body.

A heavy silence descended upon them, broken only by the relentless thunder of the waterfall. The playful confidence that had buoyed Mia moments ago evaporated, replaced by a cold knot of dread in her stomach.

Nelson, his form starting to flicker as he held the illusion, let out a strained laugh. "Ha ha, very funny, Master Wu. Now can you please cut it out and let us in?"

His voice echoed eerily in the vast cavern, bouncing off the wet walls with a distorted, mocking tone. The rock formation remained stubbornly inanimate, its watery beard glistening in the dim light filtering through the cracks in the ceiling.

A shiver ran down Nelson's spine. The cave, once a bustling obstacle course, now felt heavy with an oppressive silence. The playful dangers they had encountered before seemed preferable to this unsettling stillness.

"This is... creepy," Nelson finally admitted, his voice barely a whisper. "Maybe impersonating Master Wu wasn't such a great idea after all."

Mia nodded grimly, staring at the stone figure with a newfound apprehension. Had they been led astray? Was this waterfall some kind of cruel trap? Or worse, was there something even more sinister lurking within this cavern?

The shimmering trail of creation energy, their beacon of hope for so long, now seemed to mock them. It led them not to Master Wu, but to this unsettling dead end.

"What now?" Mia asked, her voice barely audible above the roar of the waterfall. The question hung heavy in the air, unanswered and daunting. They were lost, alone, and deeper in the treacherous cave than they had ever imagined.

" Well, at least my voice is back to normal.... kinda." Nelson said.

A sudden whirring sound pierced the oppressive silence, making Mia and Nelson jump. A sleek, black form zipped through the air, its red eyes glowing like embers as it landed gracefully on a nearby rock. It was Zane's Falcon, the robotic bird that served as their team's scout and communication device.

Relief flooded Mia's face. "Hello, Falcon," she greeted, her voice trembling slightly. "Do me a favor and don't tell anyone we're here."

The Falcon tilted its head, its red eyes blinking once as if acknowledging her plea. A small compartment on its chest opened, revealing a holographic projection of Zane. The Nindroid's face was etched with concern.

"Mia, Nelson," Zane's voice crackled through the projector. "Where are you? We haven't heard from you in hours."

Mia exchanged a nervous glance with Nelson. They couldn't very well explain their predicament over a holographic message, especially not with the unnerving rock-Wu looming behind them.

"We're... fine," Mia stammered, trying to sound convincing. "Just taking a... scenic detour."

Nelson, ever the pragmatist, chimed in. "Yeah, the scenery here is... truly breathtaking." He gestured vaguely towards the waterfall, his voice lacking its usual enthusiasm.

Zane, ever perceptive, didn't seem to buy it. His holographic brow furrowed. "A scenic detour? Your location doesn't match the planned route. Are you in trouble?"

Mia hesitated, torn between wanting to confide in Zane and the fear of revealing their blunder. Before she could respond, Nelson had an idea.

"Actually, Zane," Nelson said quickly, "we stumbled upon something... interesting. Something we think Master Wu might be interested in."

He threw Mia a pleading look, hoping she'd understand his plan. Mia, catching on, decided to play along.

"Yeah," she chimed in, forcing a smile. "We found something really important. We'll be back soon, but we don't want to spoil the surprise!"

Zane continued to stare at them, his holographic form radiating skepticism. "Very well," he finally conceded, though his voice held a hint of doubt. "Just be careful and try to check in soon. We're worried about you."

With that, the holographic projection flickered and faded, the Falcon's compartment snapping shut. The drone itself took to the air once more, disappearing into the dark labyrinth of the cave.

Mia let out a shaky breath, the weight of their lie settling on her shoulders. "That was close," she whispered.

Nelson nodded, wiping a bead of sweat from his brow. "Too close. But at least we bought ourselves some time."

He turned to face the rock formation, a determined glint in his eyes. "Alright, creepy Wu-rock," he said, his voice regaining its usual bravado. "We may not have found Master Wu, but we're not giving up. We'll find something interesting here, even if we have to make it ourselves."

Mia, despite her apprehension, couldn't help but smile. Nelson's unwavering optimism was contagious. They were in a tight spot, surrounded by strange caves and unsettling statues, but they had each other, and, surprisingly, a loyal robotic falcon on their side. Their mission to find Master Wu had taken an unexpected turn, but they were determined to see it through.
