Chapter Fourteen - The Mother's Tears
As K'Kruhk led Eri and the Kybuck Clan out of the Nelvaanian Village, they trekked into the wilderness. As they rode their Banthas deeper into the wilderness, the wind began to pick up.
Katooni: This wind....
K'Kruhk: That means we're heading in the right direction. Be on your guard. I sense something here. Something...unnatural.
K'Kruhk continued to lead the Jedi deeper into the wilderness. Following the shaman's instructions, they reach a frozen river.
K'Kruhk: Travel her tears. They are frozen with fear. Enter the Mother's mouth to awaken her inner flame.
The Jedi begin to follow the frozen river as instructed by the shaman. The frozen river leads them to a cave. Dismounting their Banthas, they continue on foot as they enter the cave. They soon encountered dangerous steam vents.
Petro: Not exactly inner flame.
K'Kruhk: Focus, young one.
K'Kruhk soon uses the Force to clear the steam, revealing a large cave painting depicting Nelvaanian culture.
Eri: What does this all mean?
K'Kruhk: Meditate. Let the Force reveal the answers.
K'Kruhk and the other Jedi sat down and began to meditate. As they meditated, they experienced a collective Force vision. Through the paintings, the Nelvaanians were seen to be conducting their everyday lives, until an angular and insidious monster invaded, threatening their peace. One Nelvaanian warrior battled the beast, fighting it back towards its lair, but as he stood victorious, his arm was bitten off by the monster. It was soon replaced by an angular and dark arm that resembled the monster, which the warrior then used to conquer all variety of monsters and opponents. The arm became stronger with each victory, and when it defeated its final opponent, a Horax, it began to spiral out of control, consuming the world and enveloping all the other Nelvaanians. It also claimed the warrior's loved one, and then corrupted the warrior himself, transforming him into a terrifying figure resembling the monster. Screams were soon heard as the wall paining erupts in flames. As the vision moved into its final stage, the Jedi snap back to reality, stunned by what they had just seen.
Katooni: So much...pain....suffering....
Gungi: <Was that...was that the future?>
As the Jedi came to, they found themselves on the edge of a large cavern, facing a gargantuan siphon generator bearing the marks of the Separatists.
Ganodi: The Separatists!
K'Kruhk: This must be the source of the geothermal readings.
Byph: <But what are the Separatists doing here?>
Zatt: From the looks of it, that siphon generator must be siphoning the planet's heat, probably resulting in this...eternal winter.
Petro: Well what I see is a big machine that needs to be smashed!
K'Kruhk: Stand down. It is clear that the Separatists have been here for some time. It is most likely heavily guarded. We must not engage until we find out about what happened to the missing Nelvaanians. Follow my lead.
With that, the Jedi began infiltrating the Separatist facility in search for the missing Nelvaanians. During their infiltration, they overhear a conversation between a group Skakoans Overseers.
Skakoan Overseer #1: But sir, the brain modulations aren't fully integrated or tested yet. Specimen control cannot be guaranteed.
Skakoan Overseer #2: No matter. Grievous grows impatient. We must deliver the prototypes.
Skakoan Overseer #1: But we're just not ready!
Skakoan Overseer #2: Our concerns are of little consequence to General Grievous. Begin the final phase and bring the last specimen forward. I will perform the procedure myself.
Skakoan Overseer #1: Yes sir.
In that moment, the Jedi learned that this facility was under the authority of General Grievous. It didn't take long for them to figure that missing Nelvaanians were being used as experiments. As they moved through the facility, they came across storage tanks with mutated Nelvaanian warriors in them. Seeing this horrified the Jedi.
Ganodi: What....what happened to them?!
Eri: Looks like those are the....modulations.
Katooni: How could....how could anyone do this to another living being?
Petro: Sickos that's what.
K'Kruhk: We must keep going.
With that, the Jedi continue moving through the facility. They soon reached a lab where an untainted Nelvaanian warrior was experimented on by Techno Union Scientists. As the Nelvaanian begins to mutate, the Jedi activate their Lightsabers and cut down the Battle Droids guarding the lab. The Techno Union Scientists quickly realize the danger heading their way.
Skakoan Overseer #2: Unleash the specimens!
Skakoan Overseer #1: But they're not ready!
Skakoan Overseer #2: I said unleash them!
The Skakoan Overseer then presses a button on the console which opens a door near the Jedi. On the other side were a squad of the mutant Nelvaanians.
Skakoan Overseer #2: Attack! Kill the Jedi!
The Jedi were horrified to see what the Separatists had done to the Nelvaanians. As the mutant Nelvaanians approached the Jedi, they raise their weapons. Eri attempts to plead to them.
Eri: Wait! We're here to help!
Katooni: You've been altered! You must gain control of yourselves! Don't let yourselves become puppets!
Petro: I don't think they're responding!
Gungi: <What are we going to do?!>
K'Kruhk steps in front of the mutant Nelvaainans.
K'Kruhk: We don't want to hurt you. You're not yourselves. You're being manipulated. You are Nelvaan warriors. You must control yourselves! You must stop!
As K'Kruhk said this, the Nelvaanian trapped in the storage tank, enraged by the plight of his fellow Nelvaanians, broke out of the storage tank. The Nelvaanian soon stood by the Jedi, appearing as an ally.
K'Kruhk: Jedi, prepare yourselves. Do not kill them. They are not in control.
In that moment, the Jedi found themselves cornered by the mutant Nelvaanians who were under the control of the Separatists. In the heart of the Separatist facility, the Jedi prepared for battle.
