MESMERIZED
'Chastity Amelia Ericht,' I heard Elliot's voice come from the door to my room. 'Isn't it a bit early for you to be up and making your bed?'
I sat down in my newly made bed picking a bubble at my hello kitty pyjama and smiled at him. 'What can I say? University habits die hard.'
He chuckled walking towards me. 'It's seven in the morning girl.' he came and sat down beside me.
I shrugged. 'I wake up at six in the morning at London,' I replied rolling my eyes.
'I wake up at eight- just an hour before I leave for my work,' he said, chuckling. I giggled too. 'Going out?' he asked, bumping his shoulder into mine.
I blinked looking down at my pyjama, drawing circles in it. I wondered what brought this up. I really hoped he hadn't seen me with Arthur last night. 'Yeah, for shopping with a friend.'
'Sasha?' he guessed.
I shook my head looking up at him. I felt like the kid who just got caught stealing a cookie for no apparent reason. 'Another friend,' I said. It wasn't a lie, as I was still unsure where Arthur and I stood as a couple. He hadn't yet mentioned me being his girlfriend. Maybe I should just ask him today, I thought.
'Okay,' he said, getting up after slapping his thighs. 'Have fun. I just wanted to ask you if you wanted to join mom, dad me to Uncle Scott's place for a while. But I guess it's just the three of us now.' He left as he said that.
I got up and got to my suitcase, Arthur hadn't yet notified me of the time he'd be getting here. So I decided to better get ready than be late. I went over to my unpacked suitcase and opened it for the second time since I got here. The first thing I saw was Arthur's hoodie that he had lent me on our first date. I decided to take it with me to return him and pulled it out along with my oversized white sweater, my black jeans and a black jacket. I ran off to take a quick shower but was brought back by the sound of my phone ringing. Throwing my clothes on the bed I snatched my phone off the nightstand.
'Hey, love,' Arthur said in a husky voice. 'I'll be there soon to pick you up. So stay ready, yeah?'
'Aye' aye, captain,' I said and giggled. He hung up. Well at least I thought he did, but it was actually my phone switching off again. I groaned and tossed it on the bed before grabbing my clothes and running off to take the shower. After a nice hot shower I got dressed and got out. I slipped my feet into my white toms and dabbed on some lip balm on my lips. I didn't know what to do with my hair so I let them air dry but carried a clutcher with me.
I picked up my phone from on the bed and tried switching it on once again. The screen did glow to life only to die again the next moment. I tried again, after having connected it to the power cord. I wasn't going to give easy and the phone should've known that. When nothing happened so I just gave up, Phone won.
Mom had made French toasts, bacon and eggs for breakfast. It felt like Christmas already when it was just the eve. I stuffed my mouth with everything and downed it all with a glass of milk because according to mom, tea early in the morning messes with your health. I decided to just go down to Starbucks with Arthur before we go to shopping for my daily caffeine shot. My family left for uncle's house right after the breakfast. After about an hour later or so of waiting I hear a knock at the door. I rushed to it and before opening it I shouted a warning. 'Don't knock! I'm coming out!'
I heard a loud laugh outside the door. 'Oh, you're no fun.'
I rolled my eyes smiling before turning the knob and getting out to be greeted by the ever handsome, Arthur and the ever mesmerizing snow!
'It's snowing!' I said running out in the street. I loved winter season just because of the snow. 'It hadn't been here a while ago! It's just-'then I saw Arthur looking at me with a slight frown.
'What?' I asked, amused by the frown.
'You're more excited to see the snow than to see me?' he placed his palm on his chest before saying, 'ouch!'
I sniffed. 'I smell smoke.'
'Oh, yeah?' he challenged, walking towards me slowly and slyly with a smirk, his hands behind him. He was dressed in the same grey trench coat he wore the first time we met at the cafe. Inside he had a black sweater and black trousers. His white beanie looked oversized just as mine.
I gave a nod. 'Is little Mr. Crawford jealous?'
He chuckled. 'Nah,' he said, shaking his head, 'But he's sure about to have fun!'And I saw a large, white, mushy ball advance towards me. But before I could react, it was already too near and I was too late to shy away. The ball collided with my shoulder and shattered into thousand tiny fragments, creating a snowfall of its own.
He burst into laughter.
'Snow fight!' I announced and began collecting snow to make a ball and throw it at him. It collided with his chest while he just stood there smiling briefly closing his eyes as it hit his chest and shattered into tiny fragments.
'Right through my heart,' he winked.
I blushed and another ball collided with my shoulder before I saw him sprinting towards me. 'Two- one,' he said and added in a heavy voice, fist pumping the air, 'Arthur Crawford stands victorious!'
I frowned, adjusting my beanie on my head. 'This is not over, Mr. Crawford.'
'Oh, I am waiting for your next move, Miss Ericht,' he said in his husky voice. His face, too close to my own, was fanning his peppermint breath across my face. I bet I was as red as a tomato. He leaned down and planted a kiss on the tip of my nose.
He held the door of the range rover open for me and said, 'after you, my lady.'
I giggled and got in. I could see myself losing the guts to talk o him of our status. He'd been so sweet and I was afraid to spoil my day out with him. Who knew if I'd ever get this chance again in my life once he starts dating another girl I thought he was dating. I was also sure that Marcus wouldn't let him get into a serious relationship with anyone, so why was I even trying? Even if he and I had a chance, there was still Marcus. And was I really willing to commit myself to a relationship where I wasn't sure of when I'd be seeing him again? Would it even work?
'Chastity,' I heard Arthur say, with one of his arms shaking me, while the other steered the wheel, he pulled me back from my thoughts.
I looked at him, lost.
'Are you alright, love? You look lost,' he said, his eyes dancing between the road and me.
I nodded, blinking as I looked down at my white toms. 'I got up early today. I guess I'm still sleepy.'
'Hmm. Well, in that case, let me drive you to Starbucks first.'
'Sounds great,' I grinned. 'I love Starbucks.'
'That makes the two of us.' He chuckled. 'The boys are here t a hotel and planning a party for the evening. I'd like you to come with me.'
I smiled. 'I'd love to accompany you.'
On the way to Starbucks he kept telling me how his flight had been and how he was going to stay with the lads for a couple of days in the hotel since he didn't want to trouble his grandparents for anything. He told me that the boys had been asking about me and that he had promised them he'd get me there.
He pulled out a chair for me and asked, 'what would you like to have?'
'Toffee nut latte,' I answered, sitting down.
He left for the counter and I took that time to examine the surroundings. There wasn't a large bunch of people and it was relieving as no one would recognize Arthur beneath his heavy disguise. I noticed a few men sitting at a far table staring in my direction with smirks on their faces. It made me uncomfortable to have myself stared at that way.
'Here is your coffee, my lady,' Arthur said coming back after a short while and placing the cup in front of me.
'Thanks,' I smiled holding it up to my mouth, still uncomfortable with the way the men were looking at me.
'Careful, its-'he started but was too late. I already had taken a huge chug, regretting it the next moment. It burned. 'Hot...,' his voice trailed off. My mind was too wrapped around my thoughts that I completely forgot the coffee was even hot.
'Yep, I figured that out,' I said, painfully. My throat and tongue felt raw by the blazing heat of coffee. I put the cup down slowly and sighed, trying to ignore the looks from the men. However I dared to scowl back at them.
'What's the matter Chast?' he asked and looked over his shoulder. 'Are those men bothering you?' he asked looking at me and then back over at his shoulder. Their eyes drifted to Arthur once before they looked away.
'Let's go shopping?' I suggested.
He smiled and got up. After having got a look at various shops, my eyes got hold of the SpongeBob pyjamas. I asked for two of it- one for Arthur and the other for myself because I loved it so much. Arthur insisted on paying but I told him that I had to pay him back for the gift he had bought for my mom.
'You don't have to do that,' he said, frowning.
'I was supposed to buy that gift, Arthur, you can gift her someday else, but that had to be from me. Also you said that I could pay you back anytime, so I guess, this is me doing that.'
He didn't argue any further. I knew the pyjama wouldn't just clear off the debt, but instalments were a better way to payback than to go broke all at once. While I was browsing through various stuff, Arthur slipped away to make a call. I began looking for something else for him. he came back and dragged me to a jewellery store.
'Hey can I have the best of your charm bracelets for the lady here, please?' he said to the woman behind the counter. She eyed the both of us before turning to do as asked.
'Arthur, what are you-'
He shushed me. 'You won't let me pay for the pyjamas so I am going to get you an early Christmas gift.'
'I have a dozens of bracelets Arthur and I wear none,' I said rolling my eyes. The woman at the counter watched us curiously waiting for us to make up our mind before she laid the pieces in front of us.
'The best ones,' Arthur insisted to her. 'You will have to wear this one. Where's the harm?'
'The harm is that I don't have enough to pay you back,' I whined, making one, or probably few heads in the store turn to me.
'So don't pay back silly' he said pinching my cheeks. I frowned and swatted his hand away. 'Have you ever heard of someone paying back for gifts?' he chuckled.
I rolled my eyes. 'Why are you doing this to me?'
'What can I say, I like to spoil my girlfriend,' he answered winking at me as my eyes grew wide at the one word I had been yearning to hear. The one that could clear all my doubts, my entire questions, all my worries. I couldn't explain how I was feeling at the moment. There were new sensations in me as if there were fireworks bursting above me and showers of cold water beneath. I just stood there blushing redder than the tomato while he began selecting a bracelet for me. It wasn't just the snow mesmerizing me. Arthur Crawford had mesmerized me too.
He bought me a nice charm bracelet with a heart shaped toggle. After having shopped he took me to nice Italian restaurant and then drove me home. I was about to hand him over his pyjamas when he said, 'keep it for now, I'll take it in the evening the time I pick you up. Be ready by six.' And with that he leaned down and planted a kiss on my lips.
That was the best feeling ever I could tell you since I had no worries and no doubts. All I was aware of was the fact that I was now Arthur Crawford's girlfriend. That was all that mattered.
