Chapter 2
Do you ever think of tasting your words before you spit them out?
°^°^°^°
I scurried out of the room with the slip in my hand, my breath still coming out in short pants. I fumbled with the stupid zipper of my bag, which just refused to close. My throat was clogging up and I found it painful to take in air.
Need to be alone.
The thought kept running through my mind.
In my state of utter confusion, I failed to notice where I was headed until I tumbled straight into some one's hard back.
Gasping, I lost my balance and fell to the floor.
"Woah, there," the stranger said turning around immediately, looking at me on the ground.
My breath left me, like literally. I stopped breathing.
No, it was not because he looked insanely good looking or anything but because of the colour of his eyes.
Striking grey.
"Shh, honey, daddy is here now, there's nothing to worry about" my father's loving voice soothed my nerves.
"Daddy.." I sobbed into his shirt, making it wet.
Lifting me up on his hip, my head rested on his shoulders and he walked around to calm me down. I clutched his shirt tightly, wanting to stay like this forever.
His large hands covered my head which he gently rubbed. He was humming something as he walked around the room.
Finally my breathing became calm.
He was about to place me on the bed but I held on tightly, becoming panicked again.
I felt so safe, so warm, so protected in his hands, I never wanted to move away.
"It's OK, princess. I'm sorry. You can stay with me today in my room," he said in a sad voice.
I nodded into his shoulder as he carried me out.
"What happened?" He whispered slowly.
"B- bad dream," I stuttered out.
"What did you see?" He asked in a soothing voice.
"Eyes." I whispered, thinking back to those cruel orbs.
"What eyes..?" My dad probed on.
After a long pause, I finally mustered my reply in a whisper,"Grey ones,"
The guy's eyes slightly widened in surprise, recognition..? His pupils dilated for a while and he just stared at me, his expression giving away very little.
For what felt like hours we just looked at each other. I slowly stood up, not taking my eyes away from his. The corridor was deserted. Everybody seemed to be in class. The boy tilted his head to the side and squinted his eyes at me as I stayed there unmoving.
He drew in a breath, regaining his composure and then he smirked, "Well, hey there," he said.
And with that one sentence, I ran. I ran like my life depended on it. Running through the empty corridors, I stumbled and tripped but I never stopped running.
Looking over my shoulder, I felt relieved when I saw that nobody was chasing me.
Pulling the restroom door open, I went inside and into the first stall. Leaning against the door of the stall, my breathing came out rushed.
Exhausted, I sank to the ground with my hand on my beating heart.
It couldn't be! He couldn't possibly be.
This was what I was afraid of from the very beginning.
But, no, it couldn't actually be him.
Why come now? When I thought everything was going to be alright!
Is it silly that I'm still afraid of him?
Even if it is, I can't help it! He tormented me!
A thought then struck me,
Did he recognize me?
Of course he did! I could see it in his eyes when he looked at me. He most definitely knew me! I sat there mentally scolding myself and reassuring myself that it was in the past. He wouldn't bully me now. I'm not a weak little girl anymore
Who the hell was I kidding!
I'm weaker now!
God, I'm terrified of everyone, it's not even funny.
I then tried reassuring myself that it was not him. Hundreds of people have grey eyes. I had never seen the rest of his face, so there is really no definite proof of this guy being him..
But then... he recognized me...
When the bell rang, I finally willed myself to get up and go to class.
Just as I was walking outside, somebody held my elbow and pulled me. I yelped in fear before facing those familiar blue eyes.
He looked confused at my reaction and his head was slightly tilted to the left as he examined me.
"Luke." I breathed out in relief.
"Where were you?! I was looking for you everywhere! Do you have any idea how worried I was about you Ally?!" He asked in a concerned voice.
Yes, he was very protective of me. But it was explainable because well, I'm... me.
"Well I-" I tried to explain but he cut me off.
"You never miss class! And coach was saying something about you being sick!"
"Luke, just-" I tried again.
"I thought something was wrong! Did anybody say something to you?! God, Ally, just tell me who it is, I'm going to kill them!" He said through gritted teeth.
"Luke!" I exclaimed, shaking his shoulders to get his attention.
He looked into my eyes, looking visibly frustrated.
"I'm Okay," I said reassuringly, looking straight into his eyes. The corridors were empty now as everyone had moved into their respective classes. I have no clue what Luke was doing outside.
Was he looking for me?
Wait, I was in the washroom for one whole period?!
Focusing my attention back on Luke's perturbed face, I intertwined our fingers and he looked down at our hands with furrowed eyebrows "Why are you so worried?" I asked hesitantly.
"Because I sa-" he contemplated what he was going to say before pressing my hands, "nothing, just.. thought something happened," he whispered. I nodded, pulling my fingers gently, but he pulled me back, still looking down.
He looked hesitant. I could tell he wanted to tell me something but there was something stopping him from doing so. He opened his mouth but then closed it again. He looked more frustrated as time went by.
"Lu-"
"What are you kids doing out here?" A voice bellowed out from behind us.
Closing my eyes, I bit my lip.
Just my luck!
Opening them again, I turned towards Mr. Henderson, who was glaring at us.
Luke seemed to come out of his daze and he slowly left my hand and moved away from me.
"We're sorry." Luke whispered, looking down.
"Get to class, now!" Mr Henderson said in a gruff voice. Nodding his head, looking downcast, Luke looked up to me, his eyes softening before he passed me a reassuring smile.
He then turned around going towards the history class. My mind was still turning; thinking about what had him worried.
"You too, Ms Hart." Mr Henderson cleared his throat, in a cautious tone.
I received special attention sometimes, which I absolutely loathed! My mother had told the principal about my phobias and the teachers seemed to always be apprehensive around me since then.
Nodding slowly, I hurried away towards my English class.
"Excuse me," I said with a red face as I entered the class.
All the thirty pairs of eyes stared up at me and I immediately looked down.
"Do you have a permission slip, Ms Hart?" The teacher asked kindly and I mentally did a face palm at my stupidity.
"I-I forgot to get one," I stammered out.
"Well, since it's your first time, I'll excuse you but next time, you'll get a detention," she warned sternly.
I nodded with relief. "Thank you so much, it won't happen again" I breathed out to which she just sighed and gestured for me to take a seat.
I looked down again, putting my hands up to adjust my glasses. I tripped on someone's leg unknowingly, and fell down again.
I really need to stop doing that.
I clenched my wrist when I heard snickers from my classmates. It just never ends.
"Sorry, my bad." A nonchalant voice rang out from beside me. A hand came in front of my face.
It took me a while to realise that the person expected me to take his hand. I was about to look up and tell him I was fine, but then I saw him.
My eyes widened a fraction and so did his.
"We keep meeting like this," he chuckled with a side smirk.
I didn't reply to what he said. I just got up by myself and went to the empty seat towards the back. My heart, a wild percussion of beats. The seat next to me was free as well, so I was happy.
Sitting down, I pulled up my bag and opened it, only to realise that I didn't have my English book. I had never stopped at my locker to pick it up.
Stupid, stupid me!
"I can share," a voice startled me from my side.
How did he even get here?!
"Here you go," he said with that confident smirk of his still plastered on his face as he pushed the book so it was placed between us.
I diverted my attention away from him and stared at the words, not really registering anything.
I couldn't handle closeness well. With the wall on one side and him on the other, I could hardly breathe properly.
He was awfully close!
His knee touched mine and I immediately pulled mine away.
"I know I'm hot, but not that much," he whispered and I immediately blushed more.
Stupid teacher! Could she not tell him to shut up already?!
I couldn't help it. Guys never talked to me much, other than Luke of course.
"Do I... know you," he breathed out and I shook my head a little too quickly.
"Should've guessed, I don't forget a pretty face," he said jokingly.
'Oh god! He called me pretty'
His face suddenly turned serious "Why did you run away from me?" He asked looking straight at me with narrowed eyes. I curled up my wrists as I stared into his grey orbs with wide eyes like a deer caught in the headlights. Just as I was a step away from passing out, we were interrupted.
"Adrian! Anything you want to share with the class?" The teacher's voice cut short our stare-off.
He smirked before looking at the teacher, "Just discussing how boring the lesson is," he said nonchalantly.
I snapped my head towards him, shocked at his answer. Does he wasn't to get a detention?!
"Anything else you want to share?" The teacher asked gritting her teeth in annoyance.
Looking towards me, he gave me a smirk and then winked at me, as my gut twisted in foreboding. He then turned back to reply to the teacher who was waiting for his explanation.
"Yeah, she agrees it has more to do with you and not the lesson"

"OK, Luke, stop laughing!" I groaned, annoyed at his incessant laughter.
"Your first day... and," he panted out before bursting into chuckles again. Taking some French fries, I stuffed them in his mouth, hoping to shut him up.
Fortunately, he stopped to chew it. Once he swallowed, he gave me a smile.
"You're more badass than I thought you were!" He grinned at me knowingly. I snorted and rolled my eyes.
"I've got to say, you're growing up! Even I haven't got detention on my first day, ever!" He said shaking his head, slightly.
I huffed out in annoyance and put the French fries in my mouth.
"This is so unfair! It wasn't even my fault! It was his!" I exclaimed in frustration.
"I see you're talking about me, already," A deep voice rang out from behind me. I froze in my seat.
Luke's smile vanished when he looked behind me. His eyes turned a shade darker than normal.
"Adrian," he gritted out like it was a curse by itself.
"Well, hello to you too, cousin" Adrian spoke, just as angrily. I turned around slowly to face him. His face was as calm as it could get and he still had that taunting half smirk on his face.
But his eyes told a whole different story.
Well, they don't like each other.
'No shit, genius!' I scolded myself internally.
Turning back to Luke, I cleared my throat slightly and his eyes snapped back to mine immediately. His gaze softened and he smiled gently, telling me it's fine.
The bell rang at that precise moment and I looked nervously between the two boys.
People were filing out of the cafeteria already.
"You go ahead, Ally, I'll see you there," Luke said in a calm voice.
I was about to protest but he gave me the 'don't worry, I can handle it' look.
I reluctantly pushed my chair back.
Adrian didn't look at me, he was busy glaring daggers at Luke.
"Luke..." I tried again.
"Ally..." he imitated me playfully and I shook my head.
Praying that neither of them... I mean, Luke didn't get hurt, I walked towards physics class.
There were supposed to be two more newcomers whom I hadn't had the chance to meet yet. Not that the new people actually ever hang out with me. Nobody wants that unwritten label on their backs afterall.
As I reached my locker, I saw a girl with long earrings leaning on it. Since her back was facing me, I couldn't tell who she was. Her brunette hair was tied back in a ponytail and she seemed to be busy as her fingers moved deftly over the touch phone screen. I did not want a second detention so I patted her shoulder politely.
The girl turned and as soon I saw her, my smile dropped and my blood ran cold.
The girl first looked surprised but then she took a closer look at me before something flashed in her eyes.
"Well, well, well," she breathed out slowly.
I just stood there frozen.
She grinned at me mischievously "look what the cat dragged in,"
