Prompt 2: International Day of Forests (Villanelle)
Title: Fae, Elf, Ape, Sif, Ewe, Reef
Felled forest canopies once fed on energy from the sun.
And at their feet, were once fed by the natural cycle of life.
Energy for them was once free, they didn't need to run.
Erstwhile humans once worshipped the sun.
Living in leafy shadows, they once understood the meaning of life.
Felled forest canopies once fed on energy from the sun.
Ancient, once proud trees are massacred without reason.
People of all kinds once evolved along with their wildlife.
Energy for them was once free, they didn't need to run.
So, once again it looks like the Devil has won.
In ecosystems, once teaming with life, it struggles to survive.
Felled forest canopies once fed on energy from the sun.
Eyes are wide shut as what was once beautiful goes the way of Babylon.
What was once understood is wantonly sacrificed so the rich can thrive.
Energy for them was once free, they didn't need to run.
Rarely if ever has humanity truly seen the light.
Ecosystems once teaming with life now struggle to survive.
Energy for them was once free, they didn't need to run.
Felled forest canopies once fed on energy from the sun.
