Scarf of Sorrow

Scarf of Sorrow

War stories are not my speciality, but thought I'd give it a try this story's focus is a spiritual experience of death as told by a loving father and husband whose role is that of an interplanetary career soldier. Some of it is fairly graphic and probably too much for my liking but this appears to be what is expected of a war story.…

A dystopian space novella created for the ONC Open Novella Contest 2023, the story is set in the rock-bound space surrounding the Terran solar system at the edge of interstellar space. The story's origin is set in the 21st Century at the death of Wilhelm (Bill), the last living male member of a North American old-money family the De Schmittenveres. And it climaxes at the peak of the corporate conglomerate era and charts the impact of Bill's death on the solar system as the future corrupt business system model implodes to reveal a secret about the space-bound employees which defies imagination.…

OCTOBER 2021 - THE HAUNTED MANSION TETRALOGY & OTHERS

The tetralogy was written in response to the PoetsPub October Contest, the challenge was to write four (4) separate poems in any form that referred to the haunted mansion. I chose to meet the challenge using four different forms, that would stand alone, but told one story. The focus was an abused wife and how she escaped her marital prison.…

A parody of the @PoetsPub, Poet of the Year 2020.I did not make the cut this year having drawn a complete blank, that is not a unique experience as last year I only scrapped in after winning a challenge in one of the @FlashFictionForum events, but only after a questionable decider. So I have decided produce my own parody of the annual competition and run it in parallel with the main event, I will endeavour to follow all the rules, but that doesn't mean I will succeed. Here's hoping you get to read and enjoy my contribution, there are no prizes.…

This is derived from an earlier short story 'Rising Damp', written as a tribute to my siblings, a reflection of guilt I felt for not spending enough time in their company as a child. I'd been burdened with more responsibility than a child should be and as consequence sought my escape where and whenever possible. The story primarily focuses on the eldest of my siblings Colin, it interweaves a father and daughter with his past and their present. The two timelines are linked by the spirit of the father's deceased sibling Colin, his daughters 'Invisible Fried' who enables him to release them both from purgatory.…

This is an acrostic collaboration between NehpetsEnal & MysteriousDryad, it has been derived from both the writer's synonyms. There was no preplanning on the subject 'My Sterio Pets' it was created from extracts of the author's synonyms, each writer was given several lines to write and the other simply had to follow, but in whatever direction they chose, whilst maintaining continuity. We believe it's enabled us to produce a very emotive acrostic, even with the phonetic spelling.Mine and @MysteriosDryad s' collaboration continues with a series of interwoven acrostic poems, we are on an unknown journey of discovery, never knowing where one is going to lead the other, it promises to be an interesting adventure.…

Coffin: The Story that lasted thirty-one days - Volume Two

Coffin: The Story that lasted thirty-one days - Volume Two

648 95 31

This story will carry on where last years volume came to a close, it is a story of revenge, irony and vampire origin and evolution. The story is supported by media, in the form of pictures and videos which are selected concerning a word or phrase contained in the chapter, giving it an alternate dimension. The story grows over the thirty-one days of October 2019, but will not be limited to 31 words per chapter as per Volume 1. However, each chapter begins with an opening poetic stanza, containing 31 words of daily acrostic prose. Each day the acrostic prose will begin with the succeeding letter of the story's title, 'The Story that Lasted Thirty-One Days', hence the first day will begin with a 'T' and the last an 'S', a total of Thirty-One.It was quite a challenge the story is circa 15K words and each chapter has an average of circa 480 words, each was written day-to-day throughout the thirty-one of October, so you can expect to find mistakes, but editing and update will continue to correct any errors. The story begins with 'The story so far' and 'Incarceration', creating a prologue of Volume 1, 2018 from which the story evolved. At the time of writing the reader knew just as much as I did about its direction and destination.https://www.wattpad.com/user/NehpetsEnalThank you. © All Rights Reserved by the AuthorCover and Story by Stephen L W Lane aka @NehpetsEnal…

ALPHABET, an ABC of my ACROSTIC POETRY

The alphabet has been used as the basis for a story relating my journey of discovery, in the world of acrostic writing, a form that I've come to love. Each page begins with a clip from Sesame Streets, Letter of the Day, followed a stanza beginning with the letter 'A, B, C etcA new acrostic which is derived from the first word of the stanza, they don't necessarily relate, but that is all part of the beauty. The final page contains all twenty-six stanzas, which when put together form the whole story. My main aim is to encourage you to see the beauty of this writing form, in the hope that you might be inspired to try it.It might be worth reading some of my work, you will find it's scattered with numerous acrostic poems and stories. The form is stable and flexible and in my works I have been able to adapt it to many other forms, largely prompted by competitions, as yet I've not found one where it didn't work.Feel free to vote, but a comment would be awesome and I guarantee to continue the dialogue with a reply.…

This is a true story, apart from some embellishment and long-term memory loss.It is based on the 1960's a time which will be ancient history to many Wattpad's readers, but to me and my peers it was an amazing time to be growing up.Although I'm not an advocate of the 'Good Old Days' as in my heart I know that's not completely true, but it was my, our time.…

The Legacy of Redrock Bill - Volume 1

This is an ensemble of my contributions to @lyttlejoe's Busted Gulch where until recently I was the newbie writer, in this time-proven, wild west soap opera that's comprised some eleven volumes and still going strong.I joined the writing team somewhere in volume eight, after an initial struggle to develop and involve my characters, my contribution is now some forty chapters spread across four volumes, a few of these are collaborations.I feel it is now time to publish them in their own right. but must point out that there is no intention of going solo. There will be very little published that hasn't been previously published via Busted Gulch, other than one or two stories, that may not have been accepted for publication,There will be some editing due to my personal preference or were the original was subject to change by our editor ensuring its aligned with the PG rating and/or a good fit, with G's historical and the evolution of others stories.…
