Chapter 9

Draco's POV

I was becoming hopeless. My mission was to kill my headteacher and as well as that, I had to fix the bloody cabinet.

I started at it, tall and dark like its purpose. I lifted an innocent white bird into it, and closed the door on it.

I opened it again to see the bird. It was dead. I lifted it, examining it closer. I was already a killer.

"D-Draco?"

I turned. She was here.

She couldn't be.

"Evelyn, you-"

"The Dark Lord called me," she told me, rubbing her arm, "He wants me to assist you. Although he told me to tell you that the end is yours to keep. Do you know what he means, Draco?"

Of course I do, I wanted to say. But I was instructed to tell no one of my mission involving Dumbledore.

Not even someone I could trust.

"No," I replied, feigning confusion.

"So," she tilted her head slightly, "You were a Death Eater from the start of the year."

"Yes. Evelyn, I hope you understand why I couldn't tell-"

"I do," Evelyn sighed.

"You can go," I told her. "You can't be of much help..."

Her dark eyebrows formed a frown, "What are you implying, Draco? I'm useless?"

"No, but in this case, I need magic."

Her frown faded, but she stepped closer to me.

Evelyn's hand raised high above her head, up to my face. I closed my eyes and readied myself for the impact of a slap, but it never came.

Instead I felt her warm, long fingers caress my cheek as she placed her hand on my face softly.

"I'm sorry, Draco," she whispered, "He is getting to me, isn't he? I'm weak. After all, I am merely a squib-"

"Shut up!"

Evelyn's eyes widened, and she stepped back.

I instantly apologised, "I'm sorry. It is just that I don't want you to think of yourself like that."

She nodded slowly, but I saw her tear up. If there was one thing I never wanted to see, it was Evelyn crying.

Placing an arm around her, I pulled her into me.

"Evelyn," I whispered into her ear.

"Yes?" She whimpered slightly.

"I love you."
