chapter fourteen!

season 1, episode 7 - summer love (pt. 2)!

AFTER THE DEB BALL, Sam and Alex decided to take a walk on the beach.  "The deb ball was so fun! I had a great time tonight." Alex stated.  "It was a bit boring."

"Are you saying that I'm boring?"

"What? No, n-"

"I'm just kidding, Sam.  You need to lighten up."

"Well, even though it was a bit boring, it was nice... dancing with you."  Alex felt butterflies in his stomach, "Really? You liked dancing with me?"

"Of course I did.  Plus, I think I'm starting to like hanging out with you." Sam mumbled.  Alex's smile widened, "Are you saying that we're friends now?" he asked teasingly.  "No."

"Delgado!"

Sam playfully rolled his eyes, "I'm kidding, Knight.  I am saying that we're friends now."  The two of them sat by the water, listening to the waves crashing.  "Do you want to go fishing with me and some friends? Conrad pitched the idea." Alex stated. "I don't think I can.  I'm leaving tomorrow."

"What? Why didn't you tell me? We could've done fun stuff all day!"

"I think spending time with you this summer was enough fun."

"Do you think you'll come back next year?" Sam looked out at the water, "I'll have to ask my parents about that. Hopefully I will."

"Well, if not, it was nice meeting you this summer. Please try not to forget me."

"Why would I forget you? You're pretty hard to forget about, Alex." Alex felt his cheeks warm, "Your just saying that."

"But it's true. You have this presence that makes people smile."

"Do I make you smile?"

"No."

"Whatever you say, Delgado." Sam rolled his eyes, "Your sounding a lot like your sister right now."

"Really? How so?"

"You're calling me by my last name."

"You did it too!"  Sam raised his hands in surrender, "Touché, Alex. Touché."

"We should probably start heading back. I don't want Kiara getting worried about you."  Alex started to stand but Sam tugged on his arm. "We can stay for a bit longer. Plus, I'm sure my cousin is hanging out with Nicole right now." Alex felt warm from the sudden contact, not knowing what to do. "Uh... sure." Alex sat back down on the sand, listening to the waves. "Do you want to know about the stars?" Sam asked him. "Sure."

"First, look up at the sky.  It's really pretty, isn't it?"

"Yeah, it is."

"Well, that one is Centaurus. It's one of the largest and brightest constellations. Oh, and that one over there is Antares its the...." As Sam continued to ramble about the stars, Alex couldn't help but look at him. He had a pretty smile, not to mention the cutest laugh ever. Wait... why was he thinking of Sam like that?

Oh.

Oh.

Alex had a crush on Sam. That's why he felt his stomach flip every time he was near, his cheeks warm whenever he spoke. He had fallen hard and he couldn't say anything about it.

Even if he wanted to.

"You okay, Alex?" Sam asked. "Yeah, yeah. I'm good." Sam continued to talk about the constellations as Alex listened intently but all he could focus on was Sam's face.

And he sure was pretty.

MIA AND CAM WERE IN THE COUNTRY CLUB, staying back to help clean up. "Tonight was really fun." Cam stated, causing Mia to nod. "Yeah, it was. I didn't know you were such a dancer, Rodriguez."

"I guess I'm full of surprises, Knight." Mia playfully rolled her eyes, quite used to his antics. A part of her liked hanging out with him, seeing his pretty smile and hearing him laugh. The same laugh that gave her butterflies. "You know that after this, we have to go back to how we were, right?"

Mia furrowed her brows, hearing him say that. "What?" Cam slowly nodded his head, "Because of the deal, remember? We both wanted to make the people we liked jealous and we didn't so why should we continue?"

"Yeah, yeah. I remember, Rodriguez. You think I'd forget?"

"Do you want come over to my mom's house? I think she's making cookies? Just for old times sake?" Mia almost melted from the look on his face, he looked adorable it was hard to keep her composure. How could things go back to normal when she really liked him? She was supposed to hate him! He was insufferable, annoying, and caring... it was confusing. One minute she wanted to argue with him, the next she wanted to be at peace with him.

"Sure. I miss eating her famous chocolate chip cookies."

It felt bittersweet to go to Cam's house for the last time and see his mom give her the warmest smile ever. "Hi, Mrs. Rodriguez." Mia greeted at the doorway, giving her a small wave. "Mia, my dear. You look gorgeous! Don't you think so, Cam?" Denise teased, causing Cam to sigh in embarrassment. "She does. Do you need help taking out the cookies, Mom?"

"No need, Cam. I already took them out. You two can come inside." As Denise went into the kitchen, Mia wore a grin. "You think I'm gorgeous?"

"Your never going to let this go, are you?"

"Aw, you know me so well. Come on, I want to taste some cookies in my mouth." Cam playfully rolled his eyes as he closed the door, walking next to her.

As they ate their cookies and conversed, Denise watched from afar. It was nice seeing them together again, just like when they were little kids. Little kids who weren't afraid of the world and were going to be okay as long as they had each other.

But they weren't those kids no more.

Alex is finally falling for Sam!! Everyone rejoice!! I can't wait for their Season Two era 🤭 their going to be so cute (also bc Sam gets a glow up- actually everyone gets a glow up)

Mia almost forgot that the deal was over 🥲 the angst?? omg it HURT to write it

Also I HAD to make a Frank Ocean reference, it seemed appropiate
