9 Her Memories

POV Elsa

This is so strange, having a man next to me who I should remember and love dearly. Affection is something that I feel towards him, how he is so vulnerable just now. This all, it’s feeling so familiar somehow. It’s like I would have experienced something like this, something that made me feel insecure like he does.

His body flinches while he sleeps and I brushed his hair with my fingers. I’ve heard stories about him, Jack Frost, how he is the funniest person in the world and is a kind person. How his hair is white as snow and his cyan blue eyes sparkle and his smile is mischievous. Why did he end up like this? I was supposed to protect him as well as the other guardians. Now he is like a shadow from his old self.

“Elsa,” I hear him whisper in his sleep and I hushed him. It hurts me, to know that I lost memories of my past. I can’t remember him fully yet but I wish that I would. Now I will do everything that I can to get him back. The children need him, Jack Frost.

Suddenly he starts to sit. “What’s wrong?” I whispered as I sat next to him, my hand touching his shoulder. He turns his head to look at me and I see his eyes. They are black as night. “Jack?” I raised my voice and he grinned deviously his hands go on my neck and I feel him squeezing me.

I’m gasping for air as he lifts us both up. He is using his wind power. “J-Jack,” I stuttered and my hands try to break his grip. Just when my world was getting blurry I let out my ice blast. His grip broke and he flew across the icy room.

Jack is laying on the floor, not moving and I’m panting. My hands are taking support from the floor. Then I lifted myself up and my feet were slightly slipping on the floor as I run to him. “Frost, please wake up,” I whispered as I kneeled next to him, taking his head to rest on my lap.

For my relief he is opening up his eyes slowly, they’re back to the usual color of blue. He smiles faintly when he watches me and then I see how he starts to stare at my neck. “D-did I do that?” He said and sounded being afraid. His hand touches my neck and I take his hand away. “It’s nothing,” I smiled and he shook his head. “I hurt you, didn’t I? You’re neck, it’s red,” he muttered and turns his head away.

“We will get you back to normal,” I smiled. He hummed, “So you still want to know what has happened?” He muttered and started to sit. “Of course,” I laughed and pinched his cheek. A rosy shade of pink was forming on his face.

“I had a sister?” I begun and his expression went sad. “Yeah, she was super nice. Got excited of everything easily, you two were really close,” he sighed and looks down. “That’s a good thing,” I chuckled and raised his chin back up. “Now, tell me everything,” I smiled and he was hesitating for a moment. Then he began.

I listened carefully for his words. How he saved me when he had just moved to Arendelle, how he died doing it. Then how we met years later when I was adult and he was a Guardian. He had lost his memories back then like I had now. It had made him sad back then and together we found out everything. Then he told me how he got all of his memories back when he was cursed and came back as mortal and then how he became Jack Frost again.

“So that’s what we need to do, let’s find me a curse,” I grinned and teased him a bit. Just before he had sounded heartbroken but I managed to make him laugh. Just a little but he did. “Maybe,” he smiled and touched my hand. His expression was now really devastated. “What is wrong?” I asked caringly.

“It’s just that you haven’t changed at all from the first day when we met when I was already Jack Frost,” he gulped. I nodded my head, “I died in old age? Didn’t I?” He nodded his head slowly and ruffled his hair, “You were gone for so long.”

“Well, I’m here now,” I whispered and he smiled slyly. “That’s better,” I said quietly. He raised his eyebrow, “What is?”

I blushed a bit, “Seeing you smile. I heard that it’s something worth seeing. From the fairies.” I giggled and it surprised me, my hands brushed my hair nervously. “Oh,” he said and sounded a bit mischievous.

“Don’t take me wrong mister, I still don’t remember everything about you but..” I said quickly and my heart was beating rapidly. “I can see that,” he chuckled and stood up. He gave me his hand and smiled. I glanced at his face and then I noticed one white hair strand on his forehead. I’m so going to get him back.

When I took his hand he pulled me close to him. “Let me hold you for a while,” he whispered and kissed my cheek. “This is not--,” I muttered and he interrupted me. “Appropriate? I’ve heard that one before,” he said and held me tighter. Somehow I felt calm all of a sudden and I rested my head against his chest.

“You’re totally falling for me,” I heard him saying and I pushed myself away from him. “What did you say?” I gasped and straightened my dresses fabric. “Just saying about how snowflakes fall down,” his voice was teasing. I rolled my eyes to him and then chuckled a bit.

“So you want to see the castle?” He asked and my body felt numb all of a sudden. “Arendelle’s castle?” I whispered. He nodded his head, “Yeah where our grandkids are now ruling.” My eyes widened, “I’m a GRANDMA?” I gulped and squeezed my cheeks.

“Yeah, technically more like.. grand grand grand--,” he begun but I yelled him to stop. He flashed me a mischievous smirk and my face got red. “Don’t worry, you’re still the most beautiful g-,” he was about to say when I froze his feet to floor. “You certainly have the same attitude,” he laughed and I was about to freeze his mouth shut when I saw his hair being even more white.

“Jack,” I whispered. “What? I can continue teasing you for ages. I missed that,” he winked his eye. “Try your powers,” I said quietly.

“Hmm?” Jack cocked his eyebrow. “Try your powers,” I shouted. He shrugged and took his staff from the floor.  “It’s no point Els, my powers are gone,” he sighed. Then he slammed the staff’s point to ground and some frost was covering the  ice that was clear before. He gasped from surprise and dropped his staff. “W-what?” He said and looked at his hands, panting loudly.

I walked to him and touched his shoulder, “Your hair is getting back to white slowly.” I laughed warmly and he looks at me. Then he grabs to my hands and starts to spin around while laughing. His eyes are shining like ice crystals on cold winter’s day when sun shines through them. When he ended our spinning we both are chuckling and breathing heavily.

Jack’s eyes got blurry looking all of a sudden and he smiles warmly. My cheeks are warming up when he touches them. He leaned forward and kissed me. My eyes closed up slowly and my hands go around him. I’m kissing him back and enjoying it. After the kiss he embraces me, “You still smell like white roses.” He whispered and my heart skipped a beat.

I inhaled deeply, “Your scent is quite refreshing like cold winter itself.” I told him as he let go. “Thank you, I guess,” he laughed nervously and went to balcony of the ice castle. “We need to go?” I asked and he nodded.

“So let’s get walking,” I said cheerfully and he shook his head. “My way,” he grinned and lifted me up to his arms. “Hold on to this for me,” he winked his eye as he gave me his wooden staff. Suddenly he jumped down from the balcony and I felt the airwave around us. Then we were floating in the air and I slowly stopped strangling him. “Uh, you’re still not so keen about flying.. huh?” He gulped and sounded a bit out of breath. I shook my head and he told me that it was alright.

Soon we were at Arendelle. His way to travel is really fast since the wind was carrying us. When we landed on castle yard my I felt nervous. We went inside the castle and no one was noticing us. “They don’t believe in me,” Jack said blankly and shrugged his shoulders as a child went through him. His eyes spoke otherwise than his not caring attitude. He seemed hurt.

The inside of the castle was huge. “I need to show you a place,” Jack whispered and took my hand. He brought me into a ball room. My hands were getting sweaty and I heard ghost like voices inside my head. I heard people calling someone monster and needing to be killed. That someone was me. I slowly took a step backwards and Jack went in middle of the room.

“I want to share a memory with you,” Jack whispered and I stopped while my hand was touching the doorway. It was freezing towards the ceiling. Jack turned around and watched at me, he seemed surprised. I felt afraid like I would have done something bad and people wanted to hurt me. Though there is no one else in the room besides me and Jack.

“Elsa?” Jack whispered and came to me. “Don’t come near me!” I cried and tried to reach the door handle. Jack walked to me and leaned against the door. “Don’t be afraid, there’s no one trying to hurt you,” he whispered and took my hands. He placed one hand on my hip and my hand to his shoulder.

Jack reached to the door handle and opened the door. “The memory I want to share is our first dance, when I fell for you in my mortal form,” Jack smiled and danced me out from the ball room and closer to the stairway. His presence made me relaxed and I smiled back. “Thank you,” I whispered and he kissed my forehead.

“Why am I getting so uneasy in here?” I half spoke. He had a surprised look. “Well,” he mumbled and I broke myself free. I placed my hands on my hips, “What are you not telling?” He bit his lower lip and then he explained what happened to me, when I froze Arendelle. Now I knew where those voices were raising from in my consciousness.

“You cared so much for Anna though, that’s why Manny probably chose you to be the Protector of Guardians,” Jack smiled. I nodded my head slowly, “Maybe so.”

“Could we check the rest of the castle?” I smiled and he took my hand. “Sure,” he whispered and we were looking at the rooms. I was remembering some distant voices and conversations. However I had no memory of him, Jack, yet. It was sad that I couldn’t give him the kind of love that he needed from me.

“One more thing,” he said shyly and took me in front of a picture. “That’s me,” I gasped and then I saw him as a mortal next to me. “It’s our wedding photo,” Jack smiled and touched my shoulder. He truly was the boy who I helped through his nightmares and then left when he was 18. It doesn’t seem so long ago since I can visit in dreams that happened long time ago. “You’re handsome,” I smiled and said quietly.

“I am handsome?” He raised his voice playfully and I showed him my tongue as I slapped his arm. Then I hummed, “I would like to see them.” I whispered and he blushed. “They don’t believe in me,” he sounded sad. “Let’s just see them, maybe then I can remember you?” I smiled and he nodded his head. I would see our grand children soon.
