Chapter 40

It didn't take long for all of the Pole to learn that Rose was in labor.
As soon as she told Bernard, he had grabbed her and carried her to the elfirmary, screaming for Dr. Histmus. As he ran, elves started running out from their homes and the workshop to see what was going on. Soon enough, Rose's family was alerted.
Her family had been staying at the Pole ever since the "frozen heart" incident, so Laura, Neil, Charlie, and Lucy we're already at the Pole. As soon as the message got to them, they told Scott and he grabbed Carol and Buddy as they raced to the elfirmary to see Rose.
They weren't the only ones. Carol's parents, who were visiting raced after them, as did Curtis, Judy, Jack Frost, and the entire Council of Legendary Figures.
They all straight up rushed into the room where Rose was being set in the bed. Each person hugged the mother-to-be before the nurse elf stood up and said, "Ok! Ok! There's a few too many people in this room and there's about to be two more so anyone who's not the father, get out!"
Each member went outside the room and Dr. Histmus got down to work. Bernard stood on one side of his wife, holding her hand and whispering words of encouragement. The nurse elves guided Rose through the process, dabbing her forehead with a cool cloth when needed.
It took awhile, but one of the nurses finally announced that a head was peaking out. "Let me see!" Bernard rushed over to take a look. "Oh my God! There is! Snowflake, how're you doing this?!"
    "Not helping!" Rose shouted.
A few minutes later, Dr. Histmus held up the first baby. "It's a boy!"
Bernard was already cooing over his son. "Oh he's beautiful, Snowflake!"
He walked over to show his wife. "Oh, B! He is beautiful!"
"The other one's coming!" One of the nurses reminded them.
Bernard offered his wife his free hand as she began pushing. He yelped as she grabbed his hand especially tightly. "Are you trying to break my hand?!"
"You did this to me, remember?" She reminded her husband.
"Fair enough. You may resume breaking my hand then."
    "Thank you."
The nurses laughed at that one as they continued doing their job. Another few minutes later and Dr. Histmus was holding their second child. "And here's the girl."
Rose smiled. "Remind me never to doubt Eve again."
Dr. Histmus placed the daughter in Rose's arms. "We'll be back soon, Rose." He promised.
With that, Dr. Histmus and his nurses left. The door didn't even have enough time to close before Rose's family walked through it.
Scott was first with Carol beside him, carrying Buddy. "Hey. How are ya, princess?"
"I'm doing just fine, daddy." She remarked.
    "Aww! Look at the babies!"
"Do you want to hold one of them, dad?"
"Do you even need to ask? Of course! Pass me the girl!"
Rose passed her daughter off to her father. At that moment, Laura, Neil, and Charlie entered. "How's my baby girl doing?" Laura asked as she sat on the bed next to Rose.
    "Tired but fine."
Neil started gushing over the babies until Bernard passed over their son to the giant baby of a man. Charlie hugged his sister briefly before Lucy came running in, jumping onto the bed to hug her sister.
"Now be careful, Lucy. Rose just gave birth." Laura said gently.
Lucy gave her sister an apologetic look before glancing over at the babies. "Those came out of you? That must've hurt!"
Rose smiled as she hugged her sister. "Oh, Lucy! Never grow up."
Soon enough, the rest of the group rushed in. Each offered their congratulations, asked after the mother, cooed over the babies, and handed out gifts to the parents.
"So what are their names?" Curtis finally asked the question on everyone's minds.
Rose smiled at her husband and said, "After much thought, we've decided to name them Nick and Noelle."
The whole family nodded in agreement as they went back to cooing over Nick and Noelle.
Rose just felt grateful to have so many people that loved her. It made her reflect on her life. Remembering how things went in the alternate reality, she realized just how much her life changed all because of her father becoming Santa. After all, if he hadn't, none of this would've happened.
Just thinking back on that other reality made her shiver. She hadn't been happy in that world. After all, she had hated her family and blamed them for everything that had happened. And her relationship with Jack...well she didn't want to think about that.
Despite whatever happened, as she looked around the room at her family, she knew they'd be ok. They had fought for their happiness as well as against an evil toy and a crazy ice man and, oh boy, was that happiness worth it!
They had no secrets in their family and had a bigger family than they could've ever imagined, all happily married and with children. Rose had more than she could've ever asked for.
All because of one choice -- for her father to put on the Santa suit and become Santa -- their lives had changed forever. And that, Rose decided, was the biggest blessing of all.

Whoo! It's the end, my dears! We made it! I still have some stuff I'd like to share with you in a chapter or two -- trivia, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes stuff if you will. And the epilogue of course! This will all come soon enough. Until then, se la vie!
