Chapter nine
As the clock raced, my world froze. I looked around expecting accusing eyes on me. Yet, all I saw was the gaze of every student fixed towards their phone screen. I was safe. Perhaps, the person who saw me was one of the cleaning staff after all.
As I walked into the cafeteria, I waved at Melissa.
'Please wave back, please wave back,' I prayed as she regarded me for a moment. And to my surprise, she did.
"Hey," I said, dumping my tray of food next to hers.
I had gotten a double lamb burger, peri peri chicken and a strawberry milkshake just like Melissa insisted. I was going to be a thick girl who no longer shopped at 'The Little Bra Company.' I would be beautiful.
"Hey girl," Sasha said. "So how was your date?"
I tossed my hair back as I told them every little imaginary detail.
"We went to the local fair," I said. "He won a stuffed animal for me but I had to come back. I didn't want to get detention."
"Oh, how sweet," Melissa said. "So, did you guys have sex yet?"
"Yes," I said as fire rushed to my cheeks. They say boys like girls with a little experience. Would this tempt Cyrus or turn him away?
"So don't keep us guessing," Sasha said. "Tell us about it."
"Oh, he's really ....uh.... passionate. He makes me feel special; the way every woman wants to feel but only a few ever get the opportunity. He makes me feel loved. And that's how I want to feel."
I saw the light in Cyrus's eyes flash at me. I pictured him lying in bed with me; his muscular limbs entangled with mine . I wanted him to look at me that way.
For a moment, I wished his eyes weren't so blue. It froze me. Perhaps it would be better if he had Kegan's warm melted chocolate eyes.
I would have wanted Cyrus to never take his eyes off me. Yet, an hour later, I was stared at by every living soul in this school. And their looks were far from casual.
