"Ouch!"

I sliced the end of my finger with a piece of jagged metal. Acting with my reflexes I clamped my hand down on the wound. The blood dripped from my skin and onto the ground. Almost immediately, people were rushing over to me and asking if I was okay. Cameron was at the head of the crowd. Almost the entire village had seen the three of us working and decided to help, knowing it would rain soon. They were nice people. They made me sit down on a lonely tree stump to tend to my wound while they continued to work.

Cameron cleared his throat, "Are you sure you're okay? It's still bleeding" he asked quietly.

I nodded. I felt a slight breeze beside me, "I doubt a little cut will kill her." the deep voice replied.

I turned to see Leo had joined us, "Hello again," I said.

Cameron looked at Leo and glared. The shaggy-haired lion returned the glare with a smile. Leo directed his focus back to me.

"Here," he knelt next to me and, to my surprise, took my hand. His skin bore calluses and yet, his touch was soft as I watched him wrap my finger in a leaf. I assumed it was a natural herb. After applying the herb he gently wrapped it in a bandage.

I smiled, "Thanks".

He chuckled and joined the others who were continuing the project. Cameron offered his hand and this time I took it. I think I could get used to this. I can't remember the last time people cared for me in such a way; Except for appointments, where it was their job to be nice to you. It was almost unsettling.

Wow. As if it were a dream!

From all my years of keeping to myself, I have mastered the sarcastic thought.

I quickly began to work again. It was impressive what a minimum of fifteen people could do in just one hour. We had made the foundation and, with a few more finishing touches, would have the outer walls up. That was just to make it look good of course. I had chosen to put up round sticks as my outer wall. They made it look like a cozy cabin. Sort of small, but it was good enough for one or even two people.

We had finished the walls when a small boy called out that it was raining. At this everyone scattered and proceeded to their homes. I looked around in a panic because we hadn't placed the roof on yet. In all the commotion, I was grabbed by the arm and pulled out of the crowd. I felt another hand clasp onto mine, oddly small in comparison.

The mystery person pulled me under a roof edge to block off any rain. Not surprisingly, it was Cameron and Adriana who had grabbed a hold of my hands. My male counterpart knocked on the door we had taken shelter beside.

The door was opened and a woman who looked to be in her early twenties opened the door, "Why hello!" she said in a chipper voice. She had short black hair that shaped her face perfectly in an edgy pixie cut. To me, she looked almost mystical like a fairy. The small woman looked the three of us over before Cameron spoke up.

"We need a place to stay for the night... Do you think we could bunk here?" The girl smiled and nodded her head. She stepped aside for us to enter.

"I'm Lea by the way," She said as she shut the door, "I only have one spare bed, but it is sort of roomy. You guys can squeeze in it and the little one could even share a bed with me if we need to," she rambled, still smiling.

Cameron looked to Adriana, "What do ya say?"

Adriana just shrugged. I was figuring out that she was shy around others. Maybe that's why she followed everywhere that Cameron went. I hadn't seen the two apart since I got into this crazy dream.

"We'll figure it out," Cameron told Lea with a smile. Lea nodded and showed us to the spare room. She then went into one of the other small rooms that did not have a door. Cameron walked into the guest room and we followed suit.

Later that night, Cameron had left the spare bed to Adriana and me, while he took to the floor with a pillow. She was so small that when curled up against me I felt as if I would crush her. I didn't sleep at all. It might have been from the small buzz I felt from all the exciting things I had experienced today and what I hoped awaited me tomorrow, nevertheless, it was keeping me wide awake.

As I lay still on my bed I heard a small creaking sound. I opened my eyes up and squinted into the darkness. The candlelight in the opposite room gave just enough light for me to see Cameron tiptoeing out. I blinked and without even realizing it, I got up and quietly followed.

A midnight snack perhaps? That seems awfully rude as a guest.

My theory proved incorrect as I watched Cameron slowly open the light door and let it close back quietly. I waited a few seconds before following the same pattern as him to be as stealthy as possible. Although it was pitch black outside, I could make out his figure winding through the houses and weaving around the puddles from the ongoing little bit of rainfall. There was no doubt that we were making a beeline for Leo's. My heart skipped a beat.

Why is Cameron sneaking around to see Leo?

He reached for the door and slowly pushed it open and stepped inside. There was light coming from the house.

Leo must still be awake...or he's scared of the dark.

I chuckled at the thought of the tough man cowering from nothingness. As I approached the house I heard voices from within. Creeping over to a gap in the woodwork, I was able to peer through and see Cameron and the leader, Leo. I leaned my ear against the wood carefully to hear them. Leo did not sound happy at all.

"-scare the poor girl!" I heard Leo say. There was a pause.

"Maybe she will see it my way. You never know. Adriana did."

Leo scoffed "You put blinders on that child! To her, you're practically God!"

"You're scared." Silence. "You're scared she will leave you and come with me. You're scared you will lose to me."

Leo cleared his throat, "I am not scared she will leave. I am concerned for her well-being and-"

"HER WELL-BEING?! " Cameron said, outraged, "Who are you to decide what is best for her? What is best for all of us? Who even put you in charge?"

"You will brainwash her 'Goldilocks'," He spat, "Manipulate her mind where she believes what she is doing is the right thing. You have a way with words."

Cameron said nothing at this.

"I suggest you leave her and this village alone." Leo sounded almost deadly at this point.

"We'll see... We shall see...." There was shuffling inside.

Are they talking about me?

My thoughts were interrupted when I realized the sound of footsteps neared the door. I had to beat Cameron to the cottage. I sprinted faster than Road Runner, so he wouldn't see me. I dodged puddles and houses and nimbly made my way around. I caught my breath as I stepped inside. I laid down and tried to contemplate what I had just witnessed.

Moments later, I heard Cameron enter the cottage. I expected him to walk in and lay down, but instead, I heard a sound like a wooden door opening. After a minute or so of silence I heard the wood squeak once again, but this time close with a satisfying click. Through squinted eyes, I could see Cameron walking into the room with a loaf of bread in his mouth. He laid down to finish eating his meal.

Well, I wasn't completely wrong about the midnight snack. I thought with a mental sigh.

From everything I had witnessed tonight, I knew that I wouldn't sleep. If I did happen to sleep it would not be very well. I had just started to drift off after an hour or two of laying on the plush and cozy bed when I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I stirred under the sheets and opened my eyes.

"Come on," Cameron said as he and Adriana loomed over me.

I stretched and got up as if it were a typical day and my alarm was telling me that I had school.

I was too tired to function in that particular moment so I grabbed my bag and followed the pair as they tiptoed outside. When I was outside earlier the rain had been drizzling. Now, however, it has ceased. I followed them up to the gate.

"Wait, where are we going?" I asked, finally waking up a bit.

Cameron continued walking and without turning around said one word: "Home."
