Waking up was much easier this morning. I felt like I had slept for the entire day. I looked around for my two new acquaintances, but I had such no luck. I slowly stood and pried myself of the cool but now warm ground. It had been heated with my body heat. I was about to search for the other two, who I figured had abandoned me, so I could get some answers when something caught my eye. I turned to look at the dirty object. It was Cameron's gym bag.

You could probably fit a body in it...

I shook my head at the thought. I amuse myself sometimes. Looking around to see if anyone was watching, I curiously snatched the bag up. I quickly pilfered through it and tried to find anything that would tell me what a Luma is.

"Oh good, you're awake." I heard a small voice behind me say. The sudden presence nearly made me jump out of my skin. I looked down at an object I had pulled out of the bag. In my hands, I held a picture frame of a family, all smiling. In the center of the parents was a girl that was about six with extremely long blonde hair and a little boy with blonde hair and blue eyes who looked to be about the same age. However, the boy's face had a crack along the frame that only touched him and no one else within the photo. It was kind of sad. The crack felt like a symbol that the little boy was apart from the family. Somehow he was distant.

Something about this is familiar...but what? Brushing away the thought, I shoved it back in the bag and turned to face the owner of the voice. It was Adriana. Her hair was now up in a messy ponytail and her purple eyes were shining up towards me.

"H-hello..." I said, as I anxiously hid the bag behind me. She just smiled at me and sat down around some charred remains of the campfire. I joined her and shoved the bag away discreetly.

"Cameron and I were gathering food and wood. He sent me to see if you were awake yet. He should be back soon." I nodded not really caring either way. Suddenly a thought occurred to me, it had somehow won against the other questions rattling inside my brain.

"Hey Adriana...?" I asked staring off into the distance and absent-mindedly tracing circles in the dirt. She looked at me and half-whispered a soft 'Hmm'?

"Why are your eyes purple? Is it those weird new contact lenses I heard about?"

She laughed, "No..." she said staring up as the sun began to make an appearance. I looked over to her expecting more. She sighed, "It happens to us all... a feature is changed... you should have a new one soon enough..."

I looked at her confused and I was about to ask about a billion other questions, on how, why, and what she meant but "Us", when we heard footsteps. Adriana shot up and was already in a fighting stance. She had wiped out something shining in the morning light; I assumed it to be a knife. Still not entirely trusting I put a little space between me and the girl. I was wound tighter than a wire and was ready to pounce. Just as the smaller girl almost sprang Cameron ducked out from under a vehicle and into our line of sight. Both of us relaxed even though I was still wary of the blade.

What if it hadn't been, Cameron? Was she going to kill him?

Adriana sighed and sat down as she pocketed the knife. Cameron walked over and giving me a quick glance he threw some sticks and wood into his duffle bag.

"We need to head to town," he nodded in the direction of the closest houses. They were about a mile from us, "You will get some answers there."

"I like the sound of that," I said with a content nod. My stomach growled mercilessly before I could say anything else. Cameron grinned at me and reached into his bag. From inside, he handed me a small bag of chips. Looking to Adriana he tossed her a bag as well.

"Let's go then. You can eat that on the way."

It was a pleasant walk to town. We mostly stayed silent, save for the little bit of chatter Adriana provided. She talked a lot. A lot more than Cameron seemed to. I couldn't help but wonder about the picture I had found in his bag.

Had Adriana caught me looking at it?

My thoughts were interrupted by Cameron's deep voice, "We're here," he announced.

Looking up, I saw a street littered with small houses. It was a cute and quiet neighborhood. Judging based on the decor, this was a street full of elderly people. It was much too early for most of these people to be awake. Not a soul was on the road except for a few animals and pets.

"Follow me," Cameron said as he strode confidently up to a tiny blue and yellow house. He walked up to the porch and looked back at me. With a smile, he used his finger to ring the doorbell."

"What are you doing?" I whispered.

Maybe this is a relative of his?

He mouthed the word 'wait' to her. Just as he turned around to face the door, it opened. Standing in the doorway was a small older woman. She had gray, short, curly hair that fell above her ears. The woman's face turns to anger. as she looks right at Cameron.

"Come out!" she shouted.

What is she talking about? He is standing right there.

Cameron started waving his hand in front of the woman. She didn't even blink. The lady sighed as she turned and shuffled back inside. I heard her grumble, "Stupid dingdong ditching-" before the door cut off her sentence. I was trying to process everything that had just happened.

She didn't see him. She did even see me or Adriana!

Later that night. We all sat in silence listening to the crackling fire for a while before Adriana announced that she was going to sleep. Cameron nodded and I watched as she walked away, probably to find a good car to sleep in in case of weather and probably to be more comfortable.

I shifted uneasily as the silence grew on. I was left to ponder my thoughts before I couldn't take it any longer. "Why?" I asked. Cameron gave me a quizzical look. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

"Why couldn't that woman see us? Why are we here? Why haven't I changed like Adriana said I would? Why can't I have a normal life for once? " I felt as if I was on the brim of tears. I had never been so confused or alone even with two new 'friends'.

Cameron gave me a sad look and scooted closer to me. "Do you trust me?" he asked looking me straight in the eyes. I was taken aback. I asked him a few simple questions and he wants trust?

Well, I want answers and we don't always get what we want...

"Oddly enough...Yes..."I replied despite my inner turmoil. He smiled at me and moved back to his spot.

"Then trust me when I tell you, that you will understand with time."

The night went on and I found myself unable to sleep as my mind raced on.
