Chapter One
DAISY
Waiting for Ace to come by the apartment was tedious and my impatience was growing by the second. My knee was rattling up and down as I waited anxiously for Ace to knock on our door. Jason kept looking at me, almost signalling with his eyes for me to calm the hell down. I bet my baby boy inside of my stomach could feel how anxious I was.
Just as he promised, Jason had asked Ace to look into this lookalike of my dad. Ace told us over the phone that he had the results, and I couldn't wait to hear them. Hearing the door bell ring, I jumped up from my seat on the couch causing Jason to shake his head at my far too enthusiastic behaviour. He told me that he didn't want me to be disappointed with whatever Ace told us. If it truly was my father, I would have no idea how to feel.
I stumbled to the door and unlocked it before pulling it open. Ace was on the other side, alongside both his and Jason's friend, Derek. I remember meeting him a few times but other than that I didn't really know the guy. But if Jason and Ace trusted him, so would I.
"Hey, guys." I said cheerily. I was mostly sucking up because they did me this huge favour.
"Good morning, Daisy." Derek smiled.
"Hey, pretty girl. I have your results. I'm not too sure you're gonna like them though." Ace said.
"Uh, come in inside." I ushered them in before closing the door.
"I hope the two of you aren't armed." Jason's voice perked up.
Ace shrugged. "We're not."
Narrowing his eyes, Jason walking towards Ace and moved aside his jacket. Sure enough, there was a black metallic gun situated on his waist. I was still deathly afraid of guns, and a few months ago I made Jason promise me not to bring them into the apartment anymore. Especially when the baby was to be born. Accidents could happen anytime, and I wouldn't allow the risk.
Jason pulled out the gun from besides him and Ace groaned. "Dude, don't touch my shit."
"Hand yours over too, Derek." Jason held out a hand.
"I swear, I'm really not armed." He held his hands up.
"What about the knife you keep in your left boot?"
I smiled sheepishly when they sent me looks due to Jason's behaviour. It was odd for them to see him act so precautious, all thanks to me.
Derek sighed and bent down to pull the knife out of his boot. How did he even hide it in there? I held in a laugh and Jason took their weapons and walked towards the TV unit. He opened the lowest draw before shoving it inside there and closing it again.
"You can get them back on your way out."
"Fine by me." Derek said. Ace looked at him and sent him a look.
"Remember who's your leader now." He all but grumbled. "Anyways, I caught the surveillance of that guy you wanted me to track."
I nodded and headed over the couch. "Please sit."
They sat down on the sofa opposite to the one Jason and I sat on. Derek slid the case off his arm before unzipping if and pulling out a laptop. He placed it on the coffee table and opened it up.
"Did you find out who he is?" I asked hopefully, my leg once again nervously tapping up and down. Jason's hand landed onto my lap, holding my leg in place. I released a deep breath.
"Facial recognition picked him up. But there was no known information on him. No identity, no address, no records. It's almost like he don't exist." Ace explained.
"This is the guy you saw?" Derek asked, turning the laptop screen to me and showing me a bit of an unclear picture.
I squinted my eyes. "Yes! That's him. He loos like my dad, just eight years older than the last time I saw him."
"Are you sure that's him?"
"Yes, that's my dad. I swear it is." I rambled quickly.
"Calm down, Sweetheart. How can you be so sure?" Jason asked from besides me. I turned to look at him.
"Because I looked into his eyes that night. I saw the same exact eyes that my father had all those years ago. The same eyes as me. I swear it was like a feeling I've never had before, Jason. Please believe me." I all but begged. I didn't understand why I was so desperate to figure this out.
"I believe you." He assured gently. "It's just that there's no evidence. And I'm assuming no way to track him?"
Ace nodded. "I'm sorry, Daisy. But there was no other digital footprint he left behind. Unless you see him one day outside again, there's no way I can track him."
My shoulders slumped. "I don't understand."
"I will have Derek check for regular updates on the scanner. In that area specifically, but until then you're just gonna have to be patient." Ace said in sympathy.
"Okay," I agreed. "Thank you, I really appreciate it."
"It's no problem, Daisy."
"Do you wanna stay for something to drink?" I offered. It was the least I could do for their efforts.
"No, we actually need to go now. But thanks anyway."
"I'll walk you guys out." Jason said, standing up from the couch. I remained seated.
They stood up and left the living room area to the kitchen. I bit the tip of my thumb, deep in thought. When Derek passed me, he suddenly stopped.
"Daisy, take this," he pulled out a piece of paper from his jacket pocket and unfolded it, before handing it to me.
I took the paper curiously out of his hand. Looking down at it, I saw that it was the image they managed to get from surveillance of the man who I was hell bent on proving was my father.
"Keep that and keep a look out for him. Personally, I feel like there is something more and suspicious about this. Just keep that photo in case." He nodded and walked away before I could thank him.
I heard the boys talking but I paid no attention. Instead, I looked down at the piece of paper. If he was truly my dad, where had he been all this time? And why hadn't he tried to find me and my siblings?
TWO days passed since Ace came by the apartment and told me the disappointing news. I stopped thinking about the mystery man and shoved thoughts about him way to the back of my mind. It was for the best. I was due to give birth soon and my pregnancy cramps had just came back the morning. It was beyond hurting and my uterus felt like it was already sinking out of my body. This baby was going to be huge.
Struggling to go down the stairs, I stepped with both feet onto one step before waiting and trying again. My uterus was throbbing. I held onto the railing tightly and took another step.
"Daisy?" I heard Jason's voice call from the bathroom.
I whimpered. "Yeah?" I answered.
"I left my towel on the bed and there's no clean one's in the bathroom. Can you please hand it to me?" I heard him yell.
I groaned. "Okay. Coming."
It was the weekend and luckily Jason had no classes or work for the next five days. I was glad that he was staying home, so that he could help around the house. I was halfway on the stairs when Jason called me, so I had to turn around and walk back upstairs. After tiresome trudges up the remainder of the steps, the pain only worsened.
"Ow." I whimpered, tears stinging my ears.
"Daisy? I need that towel."
"Get it your damn self." I yelled back, slowly moving over to the bed and slowly sitting down onto it.
"Ow, ow, ow." I moaned in pain.
I heard rattling in the bathroom before Jason walked out, completely butt naked. He furrowed his brows as he took note of me.
"What's wrong?" He asked, his tone worried.
"It hurts so much." I groaned, tears involuntarily falling from my eyes.
"Shit, shit, shit." He swore under his breath. "You're due in two days, Daisy. If it hurts so much I'm pretty sure now is the time to go to the hospital."
"My doctor said that painful contractions are common." I basically wheezed out.
Jason released a shaky breath. He grabbed the towel and dried his body off at a speed I couldn't even recognise. "Stay right here, I'm gonna dress quickly."
"Yes, because I'm about to go downstairs with these cramps." I said sarcastically.
Jason ignored my sarcasm and rushed to the dressing room. He returned in less than a minute, completely dressed. I was confused as to how the hell he took so quickly.
"If you're really about to give birth, I'll ask Alexis or Ace to come by and get your packed bags and bring it down to the hospital." Jason said, grabbing my phone and purse and necessary essentials before coming towards me. He placed his hands under my body and lifted me up bridal style. I could only imagine how heavy I was while being pregnant.
I groaned all the while he carried me downstairs.
"It's gonna be okay, baby. I promise. Just think about when all of this ends." Jason's voice said soothingly.
"You're not the one giving birth, idiot." I said bluntly, my eyes drooping close.
He sighed.
I realized what I'd said. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Bitch at me all you want. As long as it makes you feel better." Like I said before, he took my mood swings like a man.
I laughed loudly. I didn't know why, but I felt a bit high. Maybe it was the hormone overdoes. I didn't even know if I could compare the feeling to being high, since I've never been high before in my life.
"Jason, it hurts." I whined. He placed me down onto my feet slowly.
"Sweetheart, I know but you're gonna have to bare with me okay? I'm gonna carry you to the elevator but you're going to have to stand in there."
I nodded my head slowly. "Okay."
He lifted me up again, while I kept my purse on me. After securely locking up, he walked towards the elevator in a rush.
I whined once more. The pain was a bitch.
AFTER ten minutes of Jason's crazy driving, we arrived at the private hospital. Mr. Black, Jason's dad, insisted on paying the fee if we were to see a private hospital. I was more than thankful that I didn't have to give birth in a public hospital. Jason told me that there was no way he would let me give birth in any place other than the best hospital in New York.
"Can we see Dr. Saltzman please? My girlfriend is in pain and her pregnancy due date is in two days." Jason cut straight to the point at the reception.
"Alright, if you hold on a second I will call her down." The nurse said, grabbing her telephone and dialing a number.
I released a slow breath, when I felt water suddenly start to drip down my legs. I slowly looked down and screeched when I saw the transparent liquid piling at my feet.
Jason looked alarmed as he looked at me.
"Oh my god, oh my god," I panted. "My fucking water just broke!"
I swear I could have fainted right then and there.

Hushed voices entered through my ears, but my brain couldn't comprehend what it was staying. Gleams of light kept entering throught tiny slits of my eyes that were slowly creeping open, and then closing again. My throat felt scratchy and my mouth completely dry. It felt as though I had zero energy in my body, and I was awake but I couldn't find the energy to open my eyes.
"She's waking up."
My mind was finally able to process the faint words being said.
My head slid on the pillow to the side, and I proceeded to shut my eyes and go back into my slumber.
"She can't sleep, you need to wake her up. She has to eat."
I released a sound that was foreign to my own ears, at the thought of waking up. It sounded like a groan but also a mumble. Hands were suddenly placed on my shoulders, big and familiar hands that I recognized. I didn't protest as Jason gently rattled me awake.
"Can you please give us a minute?" When his deep voice entered my ears, my heart relaxed.
"I'll be right outside. If you need anything please call me." The female voice responded. I heard footsteps before it got faint and fainter, then I heard the sound of a door closing.
"Daisy, wake up." Jason said softly. I felt his lips press against my cheek. "Wake up, babygirl."
I moaned quietly, feeling tired and the overwhelming urge to sleep. Instead, I willed my eyes to open. I opened them slowly and saw blurry for a moment, before they adjusted to the light. My head moved around the place, to see that I was in a hospital room.
"What happened?" I croaked out. "Ah, I need water."
Jason stretched his arm out besides me and grabbed something off the beside table. He handed me a glass of water. I took the cup from him and hungrily slurped the water down at an ungodly speed. I sighed and licked my lips once all the water was up.
"Thank you." I handed the glass back to him. I was confused as to why he was being so quiet, so I looked up at him and his face was engulfed in a massive smile.
"Jason?"
"Daisy," he breathed out. "I have someone for you to meet."
My heart began racing, realizing what was happening. The reason why I was in the hospital, and the events that took place prior to this. Me screaming in pain and squeezing the life out of Jason's hand, as I gave birth. I remembered my eyes slowly shutting afterwards, all the energy drained out of me and not being able to cope with the pain.
My wide, frightened eyes looked down at my belly to see that it was flat, covered in the thin hospital robe. I was breathing heavily as I watched Jason walked towards a hospital cot, before reaching down and lifting a tiny bundle up from the inside. His face was filled with joy as he looked down at our baby. The little dude was so small in Jason's arms.
I was breathing shakily as Jason slowly approached me. I held my arms out eagerly.
"Meet our son, Daisy." He said softly, before bending slightly and handing me the baby.
I looked down at a tiny face that was sleeping and lightly breathing. He was so beautiful. And he was mine. Tears prickled at my eyes as they got blurry. I sniffled and couldn't help the sob that suddenly escaped my lips.
"I-I already love him so much." I gushed, half laughing and half crying. It was pure tears of joy.
"Me too." Jason whispered, sitting besides me on the bed. He wrapping an arm around me and I leaned against him with a huge sigh of relief.
"He's so cute." I giggled, through my tears. I lifted up my hand and placed my thumb between his tiny little fingers.
"Absolutely adorable. You can see where he get his looks from." Jason nodded.
"Yeah. Me." I agreed.
"No, you mean me." He chuckled.
"Jason, I'm clearly the better looking person in this relationship." I giggled.
"Keep dreaming, baby."
I smiled and bent down to place a soft and gentle kiss on our baby's forehead, that was covered in a white baby cap that I assumed was purchased by Alexis. When she went to the mall for my part, she bought neutral coloured clothing. Jason bent down and did the same, placing a feather kiss on his head.
"Everytime I hold him, I feel like I'm going to crush him." Jason complained.
"That's because your hands are so goddamn big." I teased, tilting my head up to look at him.
"Don't complain, woman. As if you haven't enjoyed what these hands have done for your body."
I giggled and placed a kiss on Jason's cheek.
"I'm so glad that it's all over. That was the most painful experience ever." I said in horror. "But the outcome was breathtaking so I would go through it again." I couldn't stop looking at our baby. His skin was red and pale-ish, which I assumed was because he wasn't exposed to that much sun yet. I couldn't see his eyes but I absolutely couldn't wait to see him awake. His lips were tiny and thin, and his nose a tiny button.
"What will we name him?" Jason asked.
I looked at him in surprise, absolutely forgetting about a name. We've discussed the naming part numerous times, about what we would name the baby if they were a he or a she. Initially, I wanted to name him after my father, and Jason said that I could. But I wasn't so sure anymore.
"I don't know. Max?" I asked. It was the only thing I could think of.
"We're not naming our baby Max." He laughed. "How about Jason junior?"
I scoffed. "Honey, please." I sent him a look.
"What? It has a nice ring to it." He smiled cheekily. "Do you not want to name him after your father anymore?" He asked gently.
"I don't know. . ." I trailed off.
"Is it because of that man that you saw?" He prodded.
"I think so. It's just that I miss my parents, and I wanted a reminder of them. I was so sure my parents were dead, but seeing that man the other night. . . I'm not so sure anymore." I said.
"It's okay, Sweetheart. We can take our time." Jason assured me, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "While you think of that, I'm going to get the nurse to get you food. You need to eat."
"Okay." I agreed. "Thank you." I still couldn't take my eyes off of our baby.
Jason stood from the bed and bent down to kiss both my and our baby's forehead, before he left the room.
I released a shaky breath and stared at our little man's face. Moments passed and his eyes began fluttering open. My heart sky rocketed to the roof. When his eyes were completely open, they grew wide and stared up at me. Two beautiful eyes looked up at me.
I sniffled and sucked up my tears. I was such a softie.
"Hi there, baby." I cooed. He kept staring at me, looking amazed. I could imagine that I looked exactly the same.
"What will we name you?" I asked softly. In response, his hand tightened slightly around my finger.
I laughed and brought his tiny hand up to my lips to kiss it.
"Mommy loves you so much. And I won't let anything in this world hurt you." I promised, smiling. He just looked up at me with his big and innocent eyes.
My heart filled with joy.
