Consequential Contingencies
Niffty's P.O.V
"Annnnnd, a good morning to all! It's another fine day here in Hell with plenty of drama and true passion in all sorts of entertainment!" Alastor exclaims enthusiastically, starting his morning radio broadcast, "Current weather predictions are favorable, but with a potential for rain later on in the day! Plenty of death is likely to happen within the city, but that's not the least of what's going to arrive in the near future!"
I sit on a cushioned chair in his parlor, waiting patiently for him to finish so that we can talk. Even though Y/N is now aware that I tell Alastor things about what goes on with him and the hotel, it still makes me feel a bit uncomfortable, even though I'm not hiding anything from him.
"But, onto the main topic of the day! Vox's factory lies in ruin, all due to the bold and drastically delightful efforts of Y/N L/N and Cherri Bomb!" He continues, "And though it is almost certain that those two will not stop there, it is safe to say that my inferior rival's company is doomed to tumble down face first into the fiery pit of failure! To what ends will this go? And how long does Vox have left? Not long, I presume. But to learn more, stay tuned as the events unfold!"
Alastor then turns off his equipment, the red glow around him dying down as his power fades to a non-noticeable level. It's one of the many abilities I've seen of his and he's told me how he used it to broadcast his carnage-filled overlord slaughter when he initially came to Hell. Now he uses it to broadcast to those within the Colony and anyone who uses the radio, having his own station and time set for people to tune in to listen. Usually it'd be longer, but he cut it short today to make time for us to talk. Speaking of which, Alastor leaves his desk and walks into the parlor, making me hop off my chair as he stops in front of me.
"So, what else can you tell me about what's to come, my dear?" He asks me, his hands going behind his back.
"From what I've heard, Cherri and Y/N are going to strike one of Vox's warehouses today and hit the other tomorrow. But judging from the news reports, Vox is attempting to circumvent their attempts by increasing his defenses around these properties. But, I'm also guessing that Vox's confidence is going to rapidly decrease once they demolish the rest" I tell him.
"Oh, I agree, I agree!" Alastor nods, "That fool has always put his pride where it was the most weak. I have faith in those two to deliver what they're capable of!"
"So do I!" I add.
"While we're on the subject, has the boy been treating you well?" He asks with more seriousness in his tone.
"Yes, yes, he has!" I smile, blushing a bit at the headpats he's given me along with the kisses I've given him in return, "He's so nice, thoughtful, and considerate. I really love him! I wish he was my boyfriend many, many years ago!"
"Good, good" Alastor nods, turning and walking to the couch on the other side of the room, grabbing his staff that lies on top of it, "Just so you know, I spoke with the young man to ensure he was looking after you properly. It's hard to tell sometimes whether boys like that are only in it for sexual fulfillment or are genuine gentlemen, because most of the time they're the first of those options. So it's pleasing to hear that he also follows through in that regard as well."
"I guess you really haven't stopped looking out for me" I mutter, not fully meaning for him to hear it, but still saying it because of how personal it is to me.
"Why, my dear, of course not! Nor shall I ever let you believe that I won't be here to keep you safe!" The Radio Demon replies, turning back towards me, "I could tell from the moment I met you that you were a person that anyone would dream to have as a companion! And since then, I have not regretted one bit of dealing with those that were cornering you in that alley and looking to take advantage of you! I would do it again to anyone, especially if they might taste good as well!"
As unsettling as that last part was, I do appreciate what he says. It's true that I was often sought after for sex, labor, and/or abuse, and that even though it hurt, I still don't hate it. But even when Alastor saved me from my last roommates, I felt some kind of relief that he wouldn't do the same. It's why I don't hate men like Vaggie does. It's wrong to think they're all the same, since while some are bad, greedy, and malicious, an equal or greater amount are good too. And while Alastor walks the line between good and bad, I love Y/N because he's good and doesn't fully treat me like the others did. The attention he shows me is loving and not hurtful, his touch makes me relax and not flinch, and he doesn't pressure me into taking my clothes off, though perhaps that's partially due to the fact that my size still makes me look like a kid even though I'm 22.
"Would you care to accompany me to breakfast, my dear?" Alastor asks me, taking me out of my ruminating, "I'm sure we can continue this conversation along the way."
"As long as I'm not the breakfast, then yes!" I reply energetically, trying to keep the mood from dropping.
"Of course not! I wouldn't dream of letting that happen!" He assures me with that same enthusiastic tone of his.
Alastor then grabs the back of my hand and teleports us both outside, gently letting go and beginning to walk down the sidewalk in the direction of the cafe we like to visit. Even though I know he won't leave me behind, I keep beside him and match his pace the best I can, trying not to look back at the demons who pass us by and direct their hungry glances my way.
"You know, Niffty, I do believe that Vox will soon be at his breaking point" The Radio Demon says, picking our conversation from before back up, "He'll quickly come to realize that no matter what he tries, he can't stop those two sinners from accomplishing their goal. He clearly thinks that numbers and resources can overpower the immense drive and passion those two have towards destroying him. The right initiative can make anything impossible seem possible."
"Does that mean you've done something like that before too?" I ask just out of curiosity.
"Oh, there are many things that I've done that most others would deem impossible, but I can't quite recall them all for you, my dear" Alastor replies, the both of us crossing the street and nearing closer to the cafe, "Some I doubt you would wish to hear about anyway. But rest assured that it is indeed possible, because my experience speaks for itself!"
He then opens the gate and the two of us enter the outdoor seating area, sitting down at one of the empty tables. A waiter soon comes by and hands out menus, him giving Alastor a respectful nod before leaving. Alastor himself, though, just smirks and looks down to think about what he'd like to order. I go to do the same, but find my thoughts drifting away from food and back to Y/N. I sort of wish he'd tell me where he would be at, that way I wouldn't worry about him so much, but I still can understand the secrecy as well.
"And once Vox is at his lowest, I will step in and show him who the better overlord is!" Alastor continues, glancing over the menu in his hands, "To say I'm bursting with excitement at this inevitable anticipation is a drastic understatement. I merely hope it comes around soon."
"I hope so too, Alastor" I nod, glancing at my own menu and then at the tall towers in the distance, "I hope so too."
Y/N's P.O.V
"This is not good" Cherri remarks unhappily, peering through the binoculars she stole.
"How bad is it?" I ask, frowning with concern.
"I'm seeing guard towers and gun turrets surrounding the warehouse and snipers on the nearby rooftops" She answers, pointing towards the apartment buildings a couple blocks away, "Though I can't fully make out all of them, the ones I can see are placed in a way that they're able to watch just about every street heading towards the warehouse."
"So, we're pretty fucked then, huh?" I sigh.
"Seems so, yeah" My girlfriend sighs also, hers more in frustration than mine.
It's currently 8:30 AM, the morning after Vox's factory went up in flames. Cherri and I left the penthouse about an hour ago, her wanting to get an early start to perhaps get an easy shot at the next facility on our list. But despite the fact that I wanted to sleep in and get more cuddle time with Cherri, I agreed that it was a good idea and we set out. And since she pointed out that using VoxMaps, in the end, didn't matter since the place was already well-decked out beforehand, she ended up using it to help us get close to this warehouse we're now facing. Still, we both came to the consensus that we should approach with more caution this time, since we were caught slightly by surprise last time. And now that we're on a balcony, a few streets away, and checking the area out first instead of charging right in, I'd say we're already doing better than yesterday.
"I guess heading out early didn't make much difference" Cherri sighs in frustration, lowering the binoculars, "But now I don't have a good idea how to proceed from here."
"Yeah. A full frontal assault would be certain death, so that's out of the question" I rationalize, "But what if I teleport to each of the snipers and take them out one by one? That would lessen the eyes on us from the get-go."
"Sure, you could try that. But that doesn't deal with the guard towers and turrets, both of which are nearly as high in the air as the snipers and would just as easily spot you either as you're taking them out or before" Cherri brings up, her logic sound.
"Do you think there are tunnels that lead into the place that we could take? What about sneaking in through the sewer pipes?" I suggest.
"I appreciate the idea, Y/N, but I think you've seen too many movies since those kinds of pipes are not nearly as big as they're exaggerated to be" The cyclops chuckles, embarrassment creeping into me, "Besides, we'd smell awful and give ourselves away anyway. So, I like your thinking, but we'll need to think of something else."
I huff and grit my teeth, part of me internally whining about how much I wish this could just be easy, but I shake my head and try to focus, since my mind is slipping back into remembering the nightmares and lack of sleep last night. Just like the night before, I had great difficulty sleeping, the nightmares being exactly the same and yet I was still scared even though I had experienced them already. Lightly leaning my head down, I put a hand to my forehead, as if it would make the thoughts go away even though I know better.
"Are you ok?" Cherri asks, concern in her voice as she walks closer to me.
"Just more nightmares last night. Same ones from the night before too" I summarize for her, lifting my head back up and scratching the back of my neck, "I swear, those things better not be a repeated pattern, otherwise I'm going to start thinking that someone cursed me without my knowledge."
"Well, if they do keep up, let me know, ok?" My girlfriend says, her hand placing itself on my shoulder.
I nod and then think of something.
"Could I have the binoculars, please?" I ask, Cherri handing them over.
I peer through them in the direction she was looking before and see exactly what she pointed out. But the longer I glance at the streets running around the perimeter of the fortified warehouse and inside the gates of said warehouse, I begin to pick up on something peculiar.
"Say, it looks way too empty both inside and out for that warehouse to not be a trap" I say, Cherri taking the binoculars back from me as she looks where I'm looking, "I'm not seeing any delivery trucks going in, coming out, or even any inside the gate. My gut is telling me that they're trying to lure us for an easy kill, but that they have to still be getting their product in there somehow, since I can see crates inside."
"They must be smuggling them in somehow. Maybe their trucks are heading to some other location and they're getting transported in a more undisclosed manner" Cherri ponders out loud, putting the binoculars down, "Good thinking, Y/N. I say we keep an eye out for one of those delivery trucks and follow it wherever it goes."
"Sure, but what are the odds we're going to find one just casually out and about in this area?" I question, Cherri hoisting her duffel bag over her shoulder.
"We won't know until we try" She says, turning to head towards the stairway as I shrug, grab my own duffel bag, and follow her.
Once we reach the ground floor of the building and step outside, Cherri and I split up, wanting to cover more ground in the same amount of time it would take for us to stick together. I'd like to be hopeful that this'll work, since Vox will still try to keep things flowing during times like this and, given that, will still be having his company trucks be out right now. But at the same time, I'm struggling to remain optimistic about Cherri and I just happening across one in this area given how many streets there are and the odds of us visiting those streets at the same time as the delivery trucks. But instead of vocalizing my frustrations, I sigh and keep running, frequently checking around street corners to see if I spot it before moving on and turning left or right to head down a perpendicular sidewalk. Maybe I'm just moody from another night of next to no sleep and it's translating into wishing that we had a more solid plan that wasn't merely improvising. But if we had insider knowledge about all these changes from the get-go, it'd probably seem too easy and Vox is only trying to lure us into a false sense of security.
After running for a while longer, I'm forced to slow down and stop, not having nearly enough energy to be doing this at this hour of the morning. But the sooner we find this truck and get this over with, the sooner we can rest, because I'm not going to have Cherri insist that we do the last warehouse today as well. And as I work to slow my breathing down, just standing there in the middle of the sidewalk, a vehicle rushes past me, its speed and vicinity making me fall over. I quickly look up and see that, judging by the lettering on the side, it's the very truck we've been looking for. This is then reaffirmed when Cherri runs past me in a desperate chase to catch up with it, giving me my cue to get to my feet and run after her. It's a pain to say the least, but I catch up with her as quickly as possible, though I can see that she clearly got their attention first given how fast the truck is going. The best thing I can think of right now is for us to get inside and hitch a ride into wherever it's going, but in order to do that, I'm going to have to use my powers to open the back and have us jump inside, which isn't quite the stealthiest approach. But at this point, does it really matter?
Just like before, I use the power like I have an invisible hand gripping the bottom of the shutter door and push upwards, it requiring a bit of effort to get it almost all the way open. Cherri's eye widens and quickly looks back and forth between me and the door, but I just gesture for her to get inside. Getting the idea, my girlfriend picks up the pace and jumps inside, grabbing my hand and helping to pull me in once I get close enough. But since I had to stay focused on keeping the door open, it shuts loudly once I take my eyes off of it. I cringe at this and the truck itself soon slows to a stop, Cherri facepalming herself as I take my gun out. The shutter door reopens a minute later and the driver and passenger look inside, getting scared once we point our weapons at them. But since killing them wouldn't help us to get inside, I use my free hand to take out a few bands of cash that I combined together from looting the bodies of past mobster demons I killed and toss one to the driver and passenger, putting my finger up to my lips. Luckily, the two workers are smart enough to realize that they wouldn't be doing themselves any favors by refusing and take the bribe, shutting the back door and getting back in the truck, the vehicle driving once more a little bit later.
"Since when did you have that much money on you?" Cherri asks, genuinely curious.
"I've been collecting it from those that stood in our way, since they clearly don't need it anymore" I answer her, shifting around to get into a more comfortable position across from Cherri.
"And to think you could be spoiling me rotten!" She partially jokes, helping me crack a smile too, "But looks like we're in and making progress. Didn't I say it would work?"
"I'd argue we got lucky, but it is what it is" I shrug, putting my gun away.
"By the way, just how strong is that power of yours?" My girlfriend asks.
"I honestly don't know" I shake my head, "I only got it recently and haven't tried testing my limits with it. So, before you ask, no, I can't dispatch the entire complex once we get there. I'd be more likely to pass out before that happens."
"Well, wherever we're going, there's bound to be security even before we're inside the warehouse. So, and I can't believe I'm saying this, let's try to get in without starting a fight" She admits.
"And here I'd thought I'd heard it all" I joke.
"Screw you" Cherri smiles while shaking her head.
Sometime during the drive, she crawls over and sits next to me, showing me her phone which has VoxMaps currently showing our location. Her and I watch it as we head from one street to the next, taking a few turns but not as many as I thought before the truck heads straight towards this building that contains multiple loading docks. However, instead of stopping, our blip soon disappears and we hear the echo of a tunnel around us, meaning that we're heading underground. Cherri and I then quietly crawl towards the front and peek through the grating that separates us from the demons up front, seeing that we're going down a sloped tunnel that will soon spill out into a cavern. Our eyes then widen once the truck slows down and reaches level ground, the area surrounding us a lot bigger and open than we anticipated with crates and dollies of products all around the area with Vox employees hurrying about, security posted at what looks to be another tunnel on the complete other end of the cavern. It must be the path to the warehouse. Now all we have to do is get past this security without being detected, which shouldn't be too hard since it doesn't look like they have any scanning technology. Though that doesn't mean they won't still search the back manually.
The truck stops as the security demons hold up their hands to signal them to do as much, the driver and passenger getting out of the vehicle. But, just when I thought that the bribe I gave them earlier would work, the two of them start anxiously confessing that Cherri and I are in the back. But even more surprisingly is when the guards shoot the driver and passenger dead, probably for letting their greed make them cowardly. Nevertheless, with our cover now blown, Cherri and I grit our teeth and hurry towards the back while the guards rush over themselves. Our timing just works out since we're able to kill the guards right as they're opening the door, my girlfriend and I have to dive out of the back since the door wasn't all the way open. A commotion is brewing because of this sudden violence and as I pick myself up off the ground, I see more guards rushing out of checkpoint posts on the left and right sides of the cavern. Cherri and I look to find cover behind stacked piles of crates beside the truck, but security doesn't wait until we're able to hide before they start shooting.
Partly because I'm curious, but also partly out of pure instinct, I try using my power to stop the bullets and redirect them. However, this turns out to be a rather stupid move since there are quite literally too many for me to stop at once and I don't have the practice of such a thing, causing a handful of the shots to get sent back at the demons shooting them, but most of them still flying past me with more than a few actually hitting me. I quickly somersault into a crouch and duck down next to Cherri, feeling over my body to count the places I was shot, breathing a slight sigh of relief that the wounds on my face are merely graze wounds and the ones that actually hit me went through my leg and shoulder instead of staying lodged inside. Cherri wears an expression of shock and fear, but that soon turns to anger, causing her to throw three bombs at once at the guards approaching us. But while I'm trying not to panic and think through the pain, my phone starts ringing. And I don't fully know why I do it, but I answer it.
"Hello?" I say, not checking to see who it was before answering.
"Hello there, sweetheart~. It's Lilith" The Queen of Hell answers, my eyes widening at the fact that it's her calling me right now, "You haven't called or been over in a while, so I wanted to see how you were doing."
"I've been better" I reply, ducking a ricochet shot, "But I've also been worse."
"I've heard you and that Cherri Bomb girl are engaged in a sort of war with the overlord Vox ever since he volunteered to be Valentino's attack dog" Lilith says, "And I can't help but express my sincerest concern for your well-being, Y/N. Vox is no joke and his hired forces are not to be taken lightly. So if you're serious about actually sticking it to him, be as careful as you can."
"Oh, for sure. I'll keep that in mind" I reply, a bullet cutting across my cheek, "Ow, son of a bitch!"
"What happened, Y/N?!" Lilith asks, sounding quite scared after hearing what I just said.
"A bullet just fucking hit me" I snap, not angry at her since I feel stupid for answering the phone right now, "Just my luck that a shootout had to happen right as things were going smoothly."
"You aren't hurt too badly are you?" The succubus asks with high worry, "Wait, are you attacking one of Vox's facilities right now? I can hear all sorts of noise in the background."
"Well, you got me" I answer, shooting back and killing another guard.
"Get out of there, Y/N! It's not worth it!" Lilith pleads with me, "Whatever damage you do will only be undone within a matter of days! Don't get yourself killed over some personal vendetta!"
"It's too late for that, Lilith" I state, more shots pelting the ground near me and the top of my cover, "
"You better make it out of there! Otherwise, I'll have my husband bring you back just so I can kill you again myself!" The Queen rants angrily before her tone then softens, "Besides, we have a lot of time to make up."
"I know what I'm doing, Your Majesty" I tell her, wanting to wrap this up for the moment, "I'll call you back later."
"Please do" Lilith replies somberly before I hang up.
"Who the hell was that?" Cherri asks, something shooting past us and exploding the truck, making us both turn away from the force and heat.
"Lilith" I answer, glancing over our cover to see that the security demons are soon going to be on top of us.
"What the fuck did she want?" My girlfriend demands.
"Right now it doesn't matter" I state, "We need to move now! We're gonna have to hit them suddenly and hard and then make a break for the tunnel!"
"But can you even run with those wounds?" Cherri asks.
"I don't intend to wait and find out" I huff, "Just get ready."
Cherri digs in her bag and improvises on the spot to string together ten grenades that will all explode with one pull, afterwards pulling it and tossing it over our cover before adamantly telling me to run. I sprint to the best of my ability and look over my shoulder to see the guards quickly running backwards to avoid the grenades, the explosives going off right as Cherri and I enter the tunnel, though she briefly stops and collects the cash from the dead truck driver and passenger, stuffing the money down her shirt before running back to me. The guards are quick to resume shooting, but after getting discombobulated by the explosion, their aim lacks more and their shots mostly hit the ground near the backs of our feet. Yet, still, Cherri winces in pain and looks down to see that she got hit in the thigh. Still, my girlfriend doesn't let it slow her down and we continue up the slowly rising slope of the tunnel, keeping our gazes locked on the path ahead of us. And as we near the top of the tunnel, Cherri says that when we get inside, she'll hand me the charges and I'll need to quickly prime them and toss them around, since we'll more than likely be facing an equal or greater amount of security. I nod my head in agreement and the two of us cross the final distance leading into the warehouse.
Right off the bat, there are guards placed all around the warehouse interior, pretty much all of them keeping an eye on the workers that are shelving things. But the workers that see us first are the first to run the opposite way, whereas the guards that are the first to see us are the first to get heavy boxes and crates from the shelves above dropped on them. As Cherri runs for cover, I use those same boxes and crates, lifting them into the air with my power and tossing them at the guards rushing towards us from the other side of the warehouse. Unfortunately, its not sudden enough and they're able to dodge them, making me curse and take cover as well since they start shooting in response. But at least this time I don't get hit with any more, Cherri reaching into her bag and taking out about five charges, snapping her fingers and gesturing to my bag over my shoulder. I get the hint and quickly unzip my bag as well, taking out the same amount of charges she has and watching as Cherri activates hers. And as luck wouldn't have it, since these shelves and whatnot we're hiding behind aren't completely solid or bulletproof, my girlfriend gets shot through the back of her collarbone.
Gritting her teeth in pain and clenching her fist, Cherri gestures with two of her fingers for me to go to the left, in other words meaning that she'll distribute her explosives on the right side of the warehouse. I nod and collect my charges into my arms, getting to my feet and starting to run. I attempt to multitask, making sure to keep an eye on where I'm going, avoiding the gunfire from the security demons, and activating each charge before I toss it either on the floor underneath a shelf towards the middle of the area or onto the third shelf off the ground closer to the wall. I also have to do my best to spread them out evenly so that the building will all go down instead of just the back end, but once I disperse them all, I make a mad dash towards the entrance, having effectively ran past the guards that were working their way toward me just a minute or so ago. A few still linger where I'm heading, however, so I shoot first at them, completely emptying my clip and reloading a new one to still let off a few more shots. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Cherri running towards me from my left, her having tossed a bomb behind her and making the demons chasing her explode into crimson chunks. We get side by side and Cherri smacks the detonator button with the palm of her hand, the two of us just making it out the door as the charges go off.
Her and I then slow to a walk and stop, turning around to see the place start to crumble. It burns and caves in bit by bit, but even as we're standing there, it seems like we might not have placed enough explosives after all. Cherri huffs in disappointment, but I pull out two more charges from my bag, activated, and hand them to her, zipping my bag back up as she throws them inside the place and presses the detonator a second time. Now the warehouse goes down in its entirety, making us step back a good distance to ensure we don't get even more hurt. And though at first we smile and high five in success, despite hurting from our wounds, we miss the fact that one of the guards is crawling across the floor until he shoots at Cherri and it slices across the right side of her head. She touches it instinctively and I immediately shoot the demon in the head, putting him down. With a crowd of civilians already beginning to form, I start moving us away from the wreckage, having to push past a few people to get Cherri and myself out of the area. And after we cross the street and continue walking away from the destroyed warehouse, we soon find ourselves wandering aimlessly without a destination in mind to hunker down and lick our wounds.
"Fucking hell, that did not go well" My girlfriend snaps, "Like that literally could not have gone any worse."
"I could probably still think of some ways it could've been worse, but I doubt we need that in our heads right now" I reply.
One of our phones then starts ringing and we both stop in our tracks, the cyclops looking even more pissed off.
"I swear to Lucifer, if it's that succubus queen again, I'm going to march over to that mansion of hers and ram one of these explosives right up that loose snatch of hers!" Cherri growls.
"It's not my phone, Cherri" I say, pointing to her pocket, "It's yours."
She then frowns and reaches down to take it out, holding it out for us both to see.
"Huh, it's Angel" My girlfriend remarks, answering it and putting it on speakerphone, "Hello?"
"Hey, guys, is it a bad time?" Angel asks, not fully able to hear our groans of pain.
"No, no...you're fine, Angie" Cherri grunts, pressing her hand against the wound on her stomach.
"Did you get shot? You sound hurt, Sugar Tits" The spider asks concerned.
"We both did, yeah" My girlfriend coughs a little, "It was a lot rougher than either of us thought it would be."
"I can help, you know! Just tell me where you are and I'll be over in no time!" Angel insists, his tone conveying his urgency.
"No, no, we'll be fine" Cherri replies, briefly stopping and leaning against the side of the building we're next to, "We just need to find someplace to rest and recuperate."
"Well, if you say so" He sighs, "Still, keep me up to date about what happens. My help is never off limits to you guys."
"Yeah, sure" The cyclops grunts, resuming her walking, "But I'm more interested in hearing what you've been up to, Angie."
"Well, for starters, I'm not going by that name anymore. Even though it'll take a little while for me to get used to hearing people say it, I'm going by Anthony now" Anthony answers.
"Really? I'm glad to hear that you're wanting to be called that now" Cherri grins through the pain, "I know it's been a sensitive spot for you, so I'm glad you're working on not letting it affect you."
"You and me both" My best friend agrees, "But aside from that, like I told Y/N last night, the princess, her girlfriend, and I are working on creating some activities for us all to do back here at the hotel. Though, needless to say that it's easier said than done, since trying to figure out things that'll work with a bunch of people that we don't know, even though I still worked with quite a few of them, isn't without its own set of roadblocks."
"I bet it is. But I know that you won't let that stop you, right?" My girlfriend says, having to pause from me holding her back as she would've been walking out straight into oncoming traffic from not paying attention to what's in front of her.
"Of course not" Anthony remarks enthusiastically, Cherri and I now able to cross the street, "Also, Charlie has promised to help teach me to act nicer towards other people and so that I don't swear so much. It's still a work in progress, but I'm sure that I'll get better with enough practice. But who would've thought that it would make such a difference towards getting into Heaven?"
"I certainly wouldn't, but then again I haven't been actively thinking about it, so maybe that's why" She muses.
"Well, I won't keep you guys any longer, but just know that I'm rooting for you two and hope that everything turns out ok" Anthony says encouragingly.
"We should be back pretty soon, I think" I tell him, "We only have one more to do tomorrow and we should be done."
"Well, that's a relief. I'm starting to miss you guys" The spider sighs, "But, anyway, I'll talk to you guys later. Bye."
With the call now ended, a surge of a headache hits me, making me instinctively grab the side of my head in pain.
"Another headache?" Cherri guesses, still looking worried even though I nod in response.
"Unfortunately, I'm starting to get an idea of why they've been such a pain lately" I reply, "Since the nightmares I've been having recently have been as frequent as the headaches, it proves they're directly correlated. What's more is that they only flare up when I use the power I got from Alastor, so it must be the side effects that he didn't think to mention to me."
"Yeah, he would do something like, that sneaky fucking Radio Demon" My girlfriend growls, keeping pressure on her wound as I straighten back up, "If it gets too unbearable, though, tell me right away and we'll go find that conniving piece of shit."
"Sure thing" I reply, both of us then continuing forward deeper into the city in search of a place to sleep for the night.
Velvet's P.O.V
I smile proudly as I scroll through the numerous Voxtagram posts about my boyfriend and that bomber chick's escapades of today. They're really sticking it to Vox right where it hurts him. It's why I'm glad I don't own a company, because it leaves you with a definite material weakness that can be exploited by any hostile parties. But as I lie back on one of the couches in the hotel's lobby, and simultaneously not paying much mind to the 'patrons' milling about, my thoughts stick with Y/N.
That night we shared and the passion we showed truly bound us together for eternity, but what I loved most was that when I showed my true self to him, he accepted me and didn't turn me away. It's what ultimately sealed my feelings for him and made me certain that I'll love him until he can't handle it anymore. But my thoughts then shift to the fact that he's out there in the city, who knows where, and putting his life on the line to protect the life of his friend. And maybe even everyone else here, since that would be just like my boyfriend.
Sitting up and putting my feet against the floor, I decide to stop tuning out everyone else and actively pay attention to them by glancing at some of the former sex workers that happen to be in the vicinity. They seem much more happy and comfortable here and there's not a constant demand to put themselves out there and do things they perhaps wouldn't want to do. They also have regular meals they don't have to pay for, nice beds to sleep in, and equally nice company among each other. I guess now that I think about it, this hotel really is as close to a paradise as it can be for a place in Hell and not Heaven. No wonder Y/N wants to help keep this establishment from going under.
I should do something to help him, because not only am I coming around to actually liking this place for myself as well, a good girlfriend would help her boyfriend if he needs it. And even though he isn't here in person asking for my help, I don't think I've done enough for him. Also, since my love has grown stronger, I feel more inclined to be helpful. But I can't really just go buy a gun and try to find him as a way of helping, since I don't have nearly the same level of experience that he does. And it might complicate what he and Cherri Bomb have planned.
However...
My phone then rings, interrupting my train of thought. I huff, not liking that my idea was cut off, and check to see who it is. A smirk then forms on my face once I see the number. Because even though I don't have it saved as a contact, I know it like the back of my hand.
"Well, well, well, look who's decided to come crawling back" I gloat.
"Save it, Velvet" Val snaps, "I need you to do something..."
"Sorry, no thank you" I quickly cut him off, knowing he hates it when people do that to him, "As I recall, I'm not part of the VVV's anymore and by extension, I have no obligation to assist you with anything."
"After everything I've done for you, do you really think you can just walk away?!" The asshole growls.
"Your guilt tripping won't work on me either" I reply, calm and smug, "You see I've had a change of heart. I've fallen in love with Y/N completely and am completely dedicated to helping him in whatever he wants, including destroying you and Vox for what you two did to me. Consider this karma for your actions."
"Don't you fucking start, Velvet!?!" Val shouts into the phone.
"Look, you want the harsh truth? You did this to yourself. You treated those workers like shit, you alienated yourself from the other overlords by coming off as desperate, and got rid of me, who helped keep your public reputation from going to double hell" I tell him straightforward, "And now, since you're seeing that Vox is starting to fail as well, you're the most desperate you've ever been and want me back to try and salvage this. But my answer, quite simply, is no."
"You'll regret this, Velvet! I swear to Satan!" He rages, my eyes rolling as I hover my finger over the end call button, "I'll kill that boy you love and make you sorry you ever crossed me!"
"Goodbye, Val. See you never, asshole" I chuckle, hanging up on him.
I keep chuckling at how pathetic Val was acting before that idea resurfaces in my mind. Given how I still maintain a loyal and steady fanbase, I can fight against Val and Vox, mainly Vox at the moment, by starting up a social media campaign against them. My followers will spread the word, over-inflate and instigate more demons, and cause a widespread commotion. With a bit of time and patience, it could very well go from people getting mad at Vox to having his own employees leave him just like Val. And perhaps I could include the hotel in this as well, if some of the workers don't have any place else to go once they leave his employment.
Grinning eagerly, I go back to Voxtagram, create a new post and type away rapidly, letting all my grievances spill out. I make sure to include plenty of inflammatory language, since that'll easily help get my followers as riled up as I was, and check to ensure I put in everything I wanted before posting it. And almost immediately, I see my followers commenting and sharing it, being appalled at Val's nerve to hit me and Vox's willingness to even kill me. I have to hold back my laughter as I get up from the couch and walk over to the hotel's front desk, hopping up and sitting on the counter whilst letting my legs dangle off the edge. This is working out exactly as I wanted and with the number of replies increasing by the second, both of those asshole's reputations will be dead and buried by dawn.
"What's so funny?" Angel Dust asks, making me realize that I had been laughing out loud and attracted the attention of everyone in the lobby.
"Well, I may or may not have just started a cancel train on your ex boss alongside that microwave-headed prick Vox" I smirk.
"Huh? What's that?" The former porn star frowns, clearly showing how he either doesn't use social media or died before it became widely used.
"Val and Vox are getting their asses handed to them online and a huge number of people will hate them from now on" I summarize, not having enough patience to try to explain it to him.
"Oh, ok" The spider nods, "Well, uh, thanks."
"I did it for Y/N, but you're welcome" I shrug.
Angel Dust smiles a little, but then walks away and starts up a conversation with that cat demon and succubus that Val used to have as his favorite girls. I look back at my phone, scanning over some of the responses and feeling that smile return. Feeling restless, I get up again and walk to the front door, heading just outside and standing there. And I know as I gaze out into the city that my boyfriend is out there doing what needs to be done and my followers are indirectly assisting him without him knowing it.
Here's hoping this helps you, Y/N.
