Chapter 18

Author's Pov

The moment Mihika left, Sakshi asked the same question that had become a hot topic in the family.

“Who is that doctor boy?”

Samriddhi sighed dramatically. “Nani told you?”

“Who else?” Sakshi giggled while picking up Arihan in her arms.

“I told her to end that topic. She doesn't want to, so we shouldn't force her; instead, let Prikshit handle her. If his love is true, then he will himself melt the walls around her heart.” Samriddhi replied while changing Ridhan’s nappy.

“Doctor Bhaiya is a nice guy.” Manvi said out of the blue, who was busy playing with Ridhan a moment ago.

“My chachu?” Aarna asked as well, cluelessly, and both ladies shared a look of disbelief with wide eyes.

"Manuu, go and play with kids, and you are younger to say or listen to these matters. Don't ever do that again.” Sakhi tried to make her understand, and Manvi mumbled an apology before leaving.

The moment all the kids left, Sakshi turned to Samriddhi and answered her earlier words, “So someone is telling from experience.”

Samriddhi smiled while shaking her head, and she admitted it proudly. “Of course, Hann changed me and disappeared my insecurities, but I wonder what is holding her back.” She said it worriedly.

“She is like you—an overthinker. Now only God knows what she is thinking.” Sakshi sighed.

“She said she couldn't leave Massi and Manvi, but bhabhi, I don't know; my heart doesn't believe her words.” Samriddhi replied. “I have tried to ask everything that came to mind, which could be the reason behind her resistance, but she said nothing like that happened.”

“The way a woman can bury her wounds in her heart, no one can do it.” Sakshi mumbled, and Samriddhi hummed. “Now you have to be Abhi in her life.” Sakshi said, smiling.

“Of course he is the reason behind my happiness. If it wasn't for his constant trying, then I might have never been married at all. He is the one who convinced everyone that Hann is the best choice for me. I’m trying to convince her as well, but I don't know if I'll be like Bhai or not. I can't force her, and I also can't see her like this....”

“You will.” Sakshi interrupted her while holding her hand. “She and Abhi never had the bonding the way he had with you, but that doesn't mean he isn't worried for her. He is, but she is more like a child for us, and this made us hesitate to talk to her. Now only you can convince her.”

“I am trying my best.” Samriddhi sighed. “But the thing is, I don't even know the reason. At least Bhai knew my reasons, but none of us knew hers. But you know what, Bhabhi, he is really a nice guy.”

On the other hand, Mihika took her mother to her room. She knows what is coming, and she is embracing herself for that.

“Nani told you.” Mihika asked.

“Why mere bache (my child)?” Mokshita asked worriedly while caressing her face.

“If Nani had already told you everything, then didn't she tell you my reason?” Mihika asked.

“Don't ruin your life because of me. I will take care of Manvi and myself. I want to see you happy and settled in your life. Maa and Didi (Geetanjali) said that he is a doctor and that his family is also very nice, and they all love you so much.” Her mother asked. “Maa said the boy also loves you...”

“But I don't.” She cut her mother off instantly.

“Then arrange marriage is also not a bad idea.” Her mother tried to make her understand. “His dadi proposed this match as an arranged marriage, didn't she?”

“Mumma, I already said it to Nani and will say the same to you. I don't want to marry, and Dii has told Nani to not bring up this topic ever again because I don't want it.” She gave a firm answer.

"Mihii, my child, don't do this to yourself because of me. I can't live with the burden that my daughter is ruining her life because of me.” Her mother pleaded.

“Mumma, now you have to understand that marriage is not an ultimate destination for a person. My goals are different, and please stop thinking about it. You will not get anything thinking about it.” Mihika said and walked out, leaving her worried mother behind.

Now Mokshita is standing on the same path that her sister faced years ago, and now she can understand her pain more, but Henry came into Samriddhi’s life, and they all aren't worried about her anymore. Now she is just worried for her daughter and if she will ever be happy in her life.

Mihika knows now that her mother will be worried, but she doesn't have any other option to make them understand. Thinking about all of this, she was walking senseless in the big mansion when her phone rang, and she instantly picked it up.

“How are you, Massi Ji?" Ruhanika teased Mihika the moment she picked up the video call, and she chuckled while shaking her head.

“I am good. How are you doing?” Mihika asked.

“Same old routine. Working and drinking CM Sahib's blood.” Ruhanika grinned, and Mihika laughed.

“Waxing to nahi ki naa unki. (You didn't wax him, right?)” Mihika asked teasingly, and Abhiraaj, who was sitting in his study area of the room, heard their conversation from the bedroom area and choked on air while Ruhanika laughed aloud.

“Everyone is waiting for that.” She said it in between her laughs. In shame, Abhiraaj wants to dig a hole and bury himself. He is wondering why his wife had to tell that to the girls.

“Ruh!!!!” He called her from the background, telling her that he was present here, and Mihika's eyes widened.

“I know you are listening, and I said that on purpose.” Instead, Ruhanika answered, and now Mihika couldn't hold back her laugh as well, but Ruhanika put a halt to her laughter while saying, “Stop laughing. I called you to see the babies. Show me, yaar.”

“Okay, okay.” Mihika controlled her laugh and headed towards Samriddhi’s room. “Dii, you have a call.” She said this while entering the room, and then handed the phone to her.

“Congratulations Samriddhi.” Ruhanika congratulates her.

“Thank you so much.” Samriddhi answered with a smile.

“Show me the boys.” Ruhanika demanded impatiently, and she chuckled while turning the camera so she could see the babies. "Awwww, they are so cute!!!” Ruhanika exclaimed, and she saw Sakhi. “Hii, Sakshi, how are you? Enjoying the mami phase, huh?”

“Of course.” Sakshi chuckled while taking the phone from Samriddhi and turning the camera to talk to her. “How are you?”

“I am good.”

“Ruhanika, say thanks to CM Sahab for helping Abhi Bhai get off from work.” Samriddhi said while coming into the frame.

“You can say that by yourself.” Ruhanika said while jumping off the bed, and the next moment Abhiraaj was on the screen with her. That poor man was caught completely off guard by her sudden action, now looking at them and then at his wife, dumbfounded.

“Ummm… Congratulations, Mrs. Brown.” He fumbled and ran out of their room, leaving his laughing wife and her new friends on the call.

“Aree thank you to Sun Ke Jate CM Sahib!!! (At least hear her thanks, CM Sahib!)”  She called from behind.

“Don’t make him embarrassed like this.” Samriddhi said in between her laughs.

“He is used to it.” Ruhanika brushed it off, and they laughed even harder.

They talked for a while and then said goodbye.

“Your brother really enjoys his posting in Delhi,” Sakshi said.

“I heard the same.” Samriddhi agreed.

“Ruhanika said her father and CM’s uncle both like Bhai so much that they themselves transferred Bhai to Delhi.” Mihika said.

"Hmm, that's true. I have met them all. They all admire his work, and even your brother respects them so much.” Sakshi answered.

“Its rare bhai go along with politicians.” Mihika said.

“Yeah, but the CM is genuinely a nice person. I have met him before he was CM, and even after becoming CM, I didn't notice any changes in his personality.” Samriddhi agreed.

“Hmmm.” Sakshi hummed. “He is better than his father in politics. Delhi is actually doing great after he came into power.”

“Youth is sensible.” Samriddhi said. “And finally, my brother is getting satisfaction from his work, which is more important to me.”

“Exactly.” Sakshi agreed. “But Simmi, you know one thing?”

“What?” She asked, confused.

“I have heard that he beat Vihaan when he first transferred to Delhi.”

“What??” Mihika was shocked, but Samriddhi didn't react. She knows why he would have done that, but she didn't know that her brother had actually beat him. “They are best friends...”

“Were.” Sakshi cut Mihika off. “Your brother says they were. Not anymore.”

“What happened suddenly?” Mihika asked, confused.

“Don't know.” Sakshi answered and then asked Samriddhi, “Do you know? Your brother shares everything with you. Do you know what happened between them suddenly?”

“No, I don't.” Samriddhi replied because she actually didn't know when her brother beat Vihaan for her.

“That's strange.” Sakshi mumbled, but before she could ask or say anything, there came a knock on the door.

Mihika opened it, and it was none other than Abhinav.

“If your gossip is done, Biwi ji, can I talk to my sister?” He asked.

"Sure, sure, Pati ji. She is all yours.” Sakshi chuckled and left. Mihika followed her.

“Are they sleeping?” He asked while sitting beside her on the bed.

"Well, that's what they are doing for now.” She replied while chuckling.

“The real show will start at night.” Abhinav laughed.

“Of course.” She laughed as well.

“Your nightmare has become true.” He chuckled, and she rolled her eyes.

“If they will be like Hann, then I am not worried.” She said that while smiling.

“Of course they will. After all, you two are their parents.”

“God knows what the future holds. But, to be honest, I am scared. What if I failed to be a good mother....”

“You won't.” Abhinav cut her off. “You will be the best mother.” He assured her.

“Fingers crossed.” She smiled.

“But tell me honestly, how does it feel when they don't turn out to be girls?” He asked teasingly, and she hit him.

“Don't scratch my wounds.” She exclaimed dramatically, and he laughed even harder. “But jokes apart, everything is worth it when I hold them. Girl or boy doesn't matter what matters; they are part of me and Hann.”

“You become very positive after getting married.” He complimented.

“Ask Hann.” She laughed, and he chuckled as well.

“You were too harsh on that poor man.” He chuckled.

“He enjoyed it.” She laughed out loud.

“As if he had another option.” He said that, and they both laughed. “You are happy; that's enough for us, and you know what? Nana Ji is finally relieved today after seeing you happy. The whole time Nani was here, he just asked her one thing over the phone: Are you happy? Is Henry actually what you say to them?”

“He is a gem.” She whispered proudly.

"Indeed, he is, and now we are waiting for Mihii to find a man like him.” He said.

“Hmmm.” She hummed.

“She turned out to be your Xerox.” He said that, and she smiled sadly.

“Now, I understand how you all must have felt.” She whispered meekly.

“She will understand. I will talk to her...”

Her chuckle interrupted him, and he bowed his head shyly.

“Do not make fun of me.” He tried to justify himself. "Dude, she is just a child for us; it feels weird to talk to her on such matters. Okay. We were like friends, so it was never awkward between us...”

“I understand, bro.” She interrupted.

“Why is she denying?” He asked.

“I don't know...”

He cut her off. “What do you mean by you don't know? Girls share everything, right?”

“But she didn't. You know how reserved she is. She never even had friends. You know that, and you know what? The only friend she has made in ages is Ruhanika.”

“Bhai woh ladki bahut khatarnak hai. (Bro, that girl is very dangerous.)” Abhinav exclaimed while laughing.

“I know.” She laughed.

“Wo kahin bhi kuch bhi bol deti hai, bro. (She says anything anywhere.) She had the most unfiltered mouth I ever saw.” Abhinav said in between his laughs.

“I know, and that poor man blushes in embarrassment. He is the first man that I ever saw red like tomatoes.” She said this while laughing.

Both are laughing at Abhiraaj's misery. Well, who doesn't 🤷?😏Evenen you guys love it, don't you?😏🤣

“Jokes apart, what kind of man is this cardiologist? Have you and Henry found out about him?” He asked in a serious tone.

She nodded. “Three years ago...”

“What?” He exclaimed in surprise.

"Yeah, but I found out about that a few months ago. Hann and Aaron noticed him stealing glances at her at Ellis’s great-grandmother’s birthday. At that time, Hann confronted him but didn't tell me.”

“How could he? or you have beaten that poor boy.” He chuckled, and she rolled her eyes.

“Exactly. No doubt, but he is really a nice guy.” She admitted. “You met Veer Bhaji, right? He is his cousin. A sincere boy. Yeah, he is a little older than Mihii, but age is just a number. He loves her so much, and I have seen Hann's resemblance in him. Now, I just pray that he will be determined like Hann.”

“If his love is true, then surely he will.” Abhinav agreed with her.

“Humm.” She hummed and asked hesitantly. “Bhabhi said that you had beaten Vihaan...”

“He deserved more than that. After what he did to you.” He cut her off instantly.

“Really?” Henry exclaimed, standing in the doorway, and both turned to see him. “Thank you so much.” He said this while coming towards them and then hugged Abhinav. “You did what she stopped me from doing. I owe you for this.”

"Hann, are you mad?”

“He is right. You wouldn't have stopped him.” Abhinav said. “When I saw him in Delhi, I couldn't stop myself...”

“What? Don't tell me that you beat him on duty; it might have caused you a lot of trouble. Are you mad?” She cut him off.

“Nah, not at all. Even everyone there wanted to beat him. The deputy CM had quite enjoyed the show, and later that night, when I went for dinner at the CM's house, everyone enjoyed that tale. That bastard was a pain in the ass of everyone.” Abhinav said, then kissed her head. “Nothing is more important than you.”

She gives them a smile, and Henry is quietly admiring them.

“Now, take some rest because you will have a long shift at night.” Abhinav said while getting up, and Henry chuckled. "Seriously, man, I am telling with experience.”

Henry nodded while smiling and then said to her while caressing his sleeping sons, “Take some rest, Tigress.” She nodded, and they both came out.

His parents are already gone, and Dorein also took the kids to drop them off at their homes. Sanvi wanted to go out as well, so Mihika and Manvi went with them along with Sanvi to drop them off.

When they reached the hall, Roshsan Mehra was saying, "Finally, I am at peace from Samriddhi’s side.”

“I have told you.” Savitri said happily to her husband.

“But after seeing it with my own eyes, I am relieved now. Finally, our Geeta has seen happiness.” He said this, looking at his daughter, who was smiling happily.

“I am happy that I listened to Abhinav and didn't oppose their relationship. Kids are sensible these days. They made better decisions.” Roshan said, and Abhinav looked at Henry proudly. “Our daughter had achieved more than what I heard from all of them. Henry and the whole family take care of her...”

“Why not Nanu?” Abhinav interrupted while snaking his arm around Henry’s shoulder, and then everyone noticed them standing behind them. “He is my sister's choice; of course he has to be the best.”

“Our daughter is lucky.” Savitri said this while standing up from her seat and then kissing Henry's forehead.

“No, Nani. I am lucky.” Henry said it proudly.

“Now, I just pray Mihika also finds someone like you, son. Then we will be free from our every tension.” Roshan said while caressing Henry’s head when he sat beside him, and all the ladies looked at each other's faces, and they were afraid that was about to happen, and Savitri blurted out.

“Ek rishta aya ta c per hun choti v badi de nakshe kadam te chal pai. (There was a match, but now the younger one has also followed in the footsteps of the elder one.)”

“Ki matlab? (What do you mean?)" Roshan frowns, and Sakshi is looking at Abhinav to do something.

But before he could say to cover up, Savitri said, “Veer yaad thonu? Aaj aya c? Usde mame da munda hai, Prikshit. Dil da doctor hai. Munde di dadi ne aage aa ke rishta mangya c khud. Uthe london toon hi Mihika nu jande aa par thodi ladli ne mna kerta... (Do you remember Veer? He came today. His paternal uncle's son, Prikshit, He is a cardiologist. His grandmother asked for her hand on her own. They know Mihika from London, but your precious granddaughter denied it....)”

“Kyu? (Why?)” Roshan asked while cutting her off while his two daughters were getting anxious, wondering how their father would react.

“She doesn't want to get married. First, Simmi was the same; now she started the same song.” Savitri said while throwing her hands in the air. “The boy is a gem...”

“Then what, Nani?” Abhinav interrupted while chuckling, trying to settle the matter. He said to ease the environment, “Aida thodi hai pehla rishta jehda aega usi nal kudi torda gae. (It's not like that; we will send our daughter with the first boy whose match came for her.) ”

“The boy is a doctor.” Savitri tried to reason because she couldn't say in front of her husband that the boy was in love with their daughter.

“So what, Nani?” Sakshi chuckled and tried to change the topic: “Our Mihii will be a doctor in a year or half, then she will do her post-graduation. She will have better matches. What's the rush? Right, Massi?”

“Yeah, Papa Ji." Mokshita stammered. “I don't have any rush.”

“It's not about Rush Beta (my child). You know your in-laws. They will never come forward to help you marry your daughters, and how will you manage everything alone? So we just want to marry Mihika for as long as we are alive. We want to fulfill our responsibilities.” Roshan tried to make her understand.

“Nanu, now you are making us strangers. Massi is not alone. She has us. All of us.” Henry finally spoke up.

“Henry is right.” Abhinav agreed.

“If little one is not ready to get married, then we shouldn't force her now. Whenever she is ready, we will marry her with a big, fat wedding, and you don't have to worry about anything. Abhinav is here, and we are here. We will marry her then, but not against her wish.” Henry said, and Samriddhi's voice is not hidden from anyone in his words.

Roshan and Savitri didn't say anything later, but they aren't happy because of Mihika's decision.

In London.

"Prikshit, my boy, are you coming for drinks?” Steffen asked while coming inside Prikshit’s cabin.

Steffen Davies is a psychiatrist and Prikshit’s only dear friend besides Veer.

“No, I have work to do.” Prikshit denied it instantly, without even looking up at him.

“What has happened to you since you came back from America?” Steffen asked while sitting in front of him.

“Nothing.” He replied plainly.

“I don't think so...”

“Don't give me your psychological sh*t." Prikshit cut him off.

“Then why is your face sulking like a lovelorn puppy?” Steffen laughed, and Prikshit rolled his eyes.

Steffen doesn't know about Mihika.

“Because of vacations, so much is left behind. Please don't disturb me.” Prikshit tried to brush it off.

“It's been more than a month since you came back. Don't make me a fool. I know something has happened. Tell me?” Steffen insisted.

“Nothing happened. I am tired. Goodbye.” Prikshit shut down the matter and walked away, leaving a confused Steffen behind.

Since that day, his mind has not been in the right place, and he has no one to talk about it with. He doesn't understand what she is hiding or what she wants.

He is ready to listen, but she is not ready to open up herself, and moreover, now he has said to her that he won't come in front of her unless she comes by herself.

It's so hard for him to do it, but he has to do it for her.

His love had reached heights where nothing mattered to him more than her happiness.

He reached home, and this empty mansion is eating him more because Arunima went to India with Ira and will not be coming soon.

He sighed, made a drink for himself, and picked up his parents picture. “I miss you so much, mom. I miss you so much, dad.” He kissed their pictures while a lone tear slipped from his right eye.
