Jason and Bruce stared at the mother as she held her son in her arms, neither sure what to do. Talia sighed when it became clear neither of them were going to make a move, placing Damian down on a nearby chair. She caressed his cheek softly before turning back to Jason and Bruce, her face all business.
"Jason, my boy - "
Aforementioned boy cut her off. "I am not your boy." He growled.
Talia cleared her throat. "Right. My apologies." She eyed Bruce carefully, communicating with the dark knight with just her eyes. He got the message. "Jason...Damian, when he returned your memories to you, he somehow found a way to alter them, making them distorted and darker than they truly are. Bruce never intended for you to die on your mission, he was hoping to fake your death so you could infiltrate the Shadows. And as bad as it sounds, I never intended to go back on our deal, I was however, backed into a corner and had no other choice. And the moment you are referring to? The moment where my beloved said he wished you were still dead? I believe I know what moment you are referring to and I have the tape of it."
Talia walked over to the computer, Jason aiming the knife at her the whole time. She ignored him as she typed on the keypad, pulling up the footage from a year ago in the Mount Justice cave.
Jason was standing by the zeta beams with a blade pressed to his throat, the team in shambles as the Justice League looks ready to pounce on Jason at a moments notice, the only thing stopping them was the hand Batman had raised in the air.
Red smirked. "I knew you'd see reason, Brucie."
Bruce had sorrow behind his eyes as he stared at his second son. "Just know Jason, I truly am sorry."
Jason paused for a second before winking at the group, backing into the zeta tubes. "You can shove that apology up your ass, Bruce."
Talia cut the video off as Jason disappeared into the beams, looking at the presently distraught teen before her. "You see now, Jason? Your memories have been tweaked."
Jason frowned, looking between Talia and Bruce before fixing his face into a scowl. "You think I am going to buy this clearly doctored footage from the two people that have betrayed? Ha! As if!" Hurling the knife at Bruce, Jason was surprised to instead watch the knife impale Talia's abdomen, the woman having moved at remarkable speeds to defend the man she loved. Narrowing his eyes, Jason reached into his belt to pull out more knives, shifting his stance slightly. "There is more where that came from. Are you prepared to die for the man that killed your son, Talia?"
Talia winced as she moved herself in front of Bruce once more, hiding his face from view. "That is what I am telling you, Jason. He did not kill you. It was a mission gone wrong."
Bruce, behind Talia, had slipped his cowl back on and therefore the coms. He was currently contacting Mount Justice, more specifically, Miss Martian, requesting her presence at the cave. The green girl let him know she would be there ASAP.
The teen assassin looked at Talia's bleeding abdomen and smirked. "You know, that wasn't just any knife. That was a knife I stole from my dear friend Cheshire, you know, the assassin known for her toxins and poisons." Talia kept her face neutral. "That blade in particular was dipped in the venom of the black mamba snake, a highly venomous creature, very deadly and very hard to treat. You might want to get to your pits before it is too late, Talia."
"Not until your true memories are restored and my beloved is safe." Talia stood her ground, already feeling the venom working its magic.
Jason was about to retort when the zeta beams in the cave went off, drawing his attention to them. He looked over just in time to see Miss Martian fly at him, hitting him with a telepathic knock out. The teen slumped over, collapsing where he stood.
Miss Martian floated over to the trio that was tied up, undoing their bonds as she spoke with Batman. "I came as quickly as I could. How is everyone?"
"Alive." Batman replied, surveying everyone in the cave. He turned to Talia. "You should - "
She shook her head. "I was serious. I am not leaving until I know Jason's mind has been restored and everyone is safe."
Bruce nodded once. "Alright. Miss Martian."
"On it." Her eyes started glowing as she got to work on undoing the damage that Damian's injection caused.
Talia looked at her youngest, her eyes holding sorrow. "Beloved, what am I going to do with Damian? He is so...angry at me for bringing Jason in and sending him away while I focused on Jason. How do I repair our relationship?"
The dark knight put a hand on Talia's shoulder. "It will take time. He is hurt. But he will come around and understand that you sent him away out of love."
"I hope so." Talia hummed, wincing.
Dick and Tim looked at the unconscious Damian, their faces mixed. "Why isn't he restrained? We've seen first hand what he can do."
Bruce looked to Talia, sighing. "I don't want to treat any of my sons like the enemy anymore. He was just...misguided by his anger. Like I was telling Talia, he will come around with time and patience and support."
Tim gestured to Talia. "Speaking of Talia. What is she doing here?"
"She saved my life." He stated simply and concisely.
Tim and Dick just nodded. Alfred put a hand on their shoulders. "Young masters, let me check on your injuries, make sure master Jason didn't cause any further damage."
"Alright, Alfred." The two brothers didn't protest, following the older man to the medical part of the cave.
The two former lovers exchanged a look while their two sons laid unconscious before them, glad everything was slowly coming together for the better. Talia and Bruce shared a smile.
Despite their differences in ideology, they had managed to come together to stop their sons from going down dark paths and destroying each other and their families.
