Chapter 7
MottlePaw looked overboard. Her gaze hardened as the dream replayed in her mind. Was it real? Was that really Winter?
Of course, it couldn't be. Winter wasn't... Winter wasn't consumed by plants, a prophet, any of that! Winter was just a normal cat, like her!
The white molly flicked her tail as she sighed. No land was even remotely close, so it wasn't like she could take a walk and go somewhere new to clear her mind either. She felt a presence nearby and turned around.
Winter and Patchy were walking over, having a small conversation about... Something hard to hear. "Is that so? Doth she...? I mean, it didn't take much to convince me since ... some of mine past... Methinks it'd be hard to..." MottlePaw tilted her head as they walked up. "Greetings." MottlePaw greeted. Her tone was almost bitter and concerned.
"Good day thee too, MottlePaw." Patchy greeted. Winter nodded, not saying a word. The two stared at each other for a moment, MottlePaw's golden eyes gazing into Winter's blue.
After a quick moment, the calico tom spoke up. "We shall be arriving at Spire 'i a few weeks. We're 'i this for the loot, remember that. Do not back down, no matter what. This is thy first raid, MottlePaw, and we expect thou to try well." Patchy stated.
Winter nodded. "I wot thou shall doth well. Thou shall be brave." He ensured. MottlePaw shook her head and turned back out towards the sea as the two toms slowly left her.
A few weeks was still a long time, but not as bad as she thought it would've been. They've been out at sea for months, so a few weeks was certainly quicker than more months, and she was grateful for that.
MottlePaw wondered what the raid will be like. Will they have to hurt others? Kill them? What about mothers and kits? Would her mother be there? Would her mother know and understand what's going on?
She shook her head, not wanting to think about the negativity of the situation, nor to worry.
The molly watched as the water crashed against the quickly moving boat, the sky was clear as well. Tonight would be a good night to go star gazing, which might be what she needs to clear her mind.
MottlePaw stepped away from the bow and headed over towards the others, who were eating some food. She took a small fish and walked back over to the bow.
She didn't have much else going for her, so she might as well watch the sea. Whales, dolphins, occasionally sharks and many other things often swam nearby, so they were interesting. Since MottlePaw never really talked to anyone else, it left her alone.
She did think that she was starting to get along with the others though, and she had taken a bit of a friendly liking to Sunray though. Sunray was intriguing, but had a strong distaste for salt, like Winter, although it was more of a preference thing, rather than an aversion to salt.
Unlike Winter, Sunray would actually eat salted food, which was better than seeing him starve.
MottlePaw hoped Sunray would make it out of the raid alright and well.
