Part 4; Chapter 5 - The Tree Stump

=Shark's POV=

"Where the heck even are we? We've been wandering for hours!" Rainbow complained as we walked. "Hold on, aren't you the guy who knows his way around this area?" Galaxy asked, only for Rainbow to give a huff of annoyance. "Shush, Galaxy, Not everyone is as direction-savvy as Sabre!" He complained, Sabre looking down at Rainbow. "Awe, thanks, bud." He said.

"Well, where did we come from, then? If we can make our way back to the lab, then maybe we won't be so lost?" I suggested. "Well what's the point of exploring, then? If we just go back, we wouldn't have really made much progress with finding a new place to build our town." Rainbow stated. "Makes sense." Sabre agreed.

We continued to walk in silence. I turned to check on Moose and Nathan, who seemed happier than earlier. The two, although oddly silent, had small smiles on their faces as if they were just appreciating each others' presence.

I turned back to face the front of the group as Rainbow and Galaxy bickered, Sabre glancing around as if he was looking for something. I picked up my pace a bit to walk next to him. "Hey, what'cha looking for?" I asked him, gaining his attention. "Oh, I dunno, really. Maybe just something relatively interesting?" He shrugged. "Makes sense." I replied.

We continued to walk, listening to the argument in the background between Rainbow and Galaxy around the subjects of sandwiches, sticks, and pufferfish. To say I was concerned was an understatement, but I wasn't going to do anything about it. That was Sabre's job.

"Hey, what's that?" Nathan piped up. I turned to him, seeing him point off to the right at what seemed like a huge tree stump. The six of us made our way towards the thing, only to realize, it was indeed a huge tree stump.

"Woah, this thing is huge!" Sabre exclaimed, immediately going to climb the stump. "Be careful, Sabre," I called, "you gotta remember you don't have your left forearm anymore!" "Bah, I'll be fine!" Sabre replied, getting to the top.

"This is the stump of a Tree of Life!" Rainbow exclaimed. "A WHAT!?" Sabre yelled in reply.

"You heard me! A Tree of Life! I had a Green Steve friend who used to live here."

"What kind of Tree of Life?!"

"Pssh, I dunno. Either he never told me or I forgot."

I laughed at the interaction as Rainbow began to walk around the trunk to a river. I followed him to an entrance, where Rainbow tried and opened the door. Galaxy and I followed him in, looking around the cottage-like home. "Ohh, This is so cute!" Galaxy exclaimed, looking around the area.

We explored the little cottage, looking at old book titles and Galaxy trying to eat a stale, dusty baguette as Rainbow yelled at him not to. I was wiping off a layer of dust from the cute little stove in the corner, when a scream sounded from outside. Rainbow flinched as Galaxy looked to the door. "Nathan!?" I yelled, running out to check on him.

I slowed to a jog when I saw him. Nathan was clinging to Moose, tears spilling from his eyes, as Moose had his arms wrapped tightly around his best friend, trying to ask questions while not trying to seem overbearing. I stopped next to the two, putting a hand on Nathan's shoulder. "Hey, Nathan, wanna tell me what's wrong, or do you need a few minutes?" I asked.

Nathan's emerald green eyes darted from me to Moose and then back down to the grass. "I-I need a b-bit-" He whispered out. I nodded and backed off as Moose sat, Nathan sitting with him. I sighed and sat as well, the three of us sitting in silence for a few minutes.

"O-Okay.. I'm calm.." Nathan mumbled out, finally letting go of Moose. Moose and I sat on either side of our friend as he pulled his knees up to his chest, letting out a heavy sigh. "Okay, well, wanna tell us what's wrong? We can help you." I tried. Nathan nodded.

"I'm in the same boat as Sabre and Moose, guys.." He mumbled, "I think I'm a reincarnation."
