Chapter two
"Good morning." I called out in respect to our school's grumpy guard, whom I personally think is an evil witch who eats kids.
She never smiles, is always angry about something and always wears dark clothing.
"Morning." She half-heartedly replied, without looking up from the newspaper that she was reading.
I continued to walk to my locker with a smirk on my face. Ah. The things about this school....just makes me so..happy. The evil lady, which is what I call the guard, the flaking paint, rusty iron, the fact that they cut down nearly all the beautiful trees for "safety reasons" and most of all the great effort and enthusiasm they put towards generally caring.
But honestly, I got so attached to this stupid place that I actually care about it. It's almost pathetic.
"Good morning, Mackenzie," one of my Science classmates, Audrey, greeted as she walked passed me.
I faked a smile and replied with a simple "morning" to her. It's not that I'm a mean person or anything for faking a smile and not caring that she greeted me. But I've just grown in the world. The worst things have happened. Bullies, legit mean girls, all the fake friends, the worst haters, the crappiest people and just general hurt. Some memories are to painful to even recall.
So,yeah. I knew she didn't really care about me. I kept my distance from people like that. And to tell you the truth, the only people who I know actually care for me, are my friends. Not my "friends" but my friends. Everyone else, is just everyone else.
"Mack!" One of my friends, Ocean, called out to me as she made her way to my locker.
She wore dark blue jeans, a plain gray top and a pair of gray pencil shoes to go with her outfit. Today, as every other day, her messy, short hair was tied back into a low ponytail with a few strands of her bangs sitting on her forehead.
"Hey!" I smiled at her.
She pursed her lips and looked left to right, like a cute, mischievous five year old. Raising her hand halfway up her upper body, she waved at me although she was right in front me.
I giggled. I just loved how childish she was. I'm probably still incredibly immature because of her, and I've loved that so much.
"Where's Cherry?" I asked Ocean.
Cherry was another close friend of mine. She was a bit like Ocean, except a whole lot more sassy. (I was going to write sassier till I realized that it isn't a real word..unless it is..is it? Can we make that a thing?)
"Not sure," Ocean answered, " I lost her at the cafeteria..again."
We both laughed.
I signed,"Of course you did. C'mon, let's go find her."
I closed my locker and we went in the direction of the cafeteria.
