Chapter 26
Luke's PoV
As Ashton led Lys out of the room, I let my emotions get the better of me. When that door closed, I scowled at Calum with an anger and hatred I hadn't felt in years.
"Are you fucking stupid?" I barked, shoving Calum back hard enough that he stumbled. He looked shocked, hurt for a second, before he became angry too. "Are all of you stupid?" It was Calum's turn to shove me back and he did so a lot harder than me. I stumbled backwards and tripped into a chair, luckily falling into it for a soft landing.
"Us? How have you not told her what we do yet?" Ashton rolled his eyes. "She nearly freaked out when I said security." Ashton was back in the room, asking the question before he'd even shut the door behind him meaning the four of us were alone in the room.
"It's not that easy. She's nice and genuine and treats me like a normal person, the moment she knows, she'll run." I huffed, not understanding why everyone else was getting involved.
"You literally took her to your house. She's about to stay in mine. If she walks into my music room, I'm not going to stop her or make up excuses. She needs to know." Calum said, his tone a lot harsher now that I'd acted out towards him.
"Why did you pick his fucking house too? You know he's all over Lys like an excited dog." I snapped harshly, looking at Mike and Ash for some sort of response.
"Luke, calm down. I already said we picked his house because it's bigger and emptier, no offence Cal." Calum shrugged at Mike's answer but I rolled my eyes. I remained seated, my gaze flicking between every one of my band members repeatedly. How could they do this? They're lining me up to fail, moving us into Calum's when he agitates me for how he acts around Lys and putting us into a house that has the most obvious band feeling. He literally has our posters on his walls, our awards lining a few of his rooms. I kept mine away from Kira, hidden away from any prying eyes.
"You've got to tell her now, or she'll come into my house and see it all for herself. She'll probably be hurt that you didn't tell her or feel like you didn't trust her enough to tell her." Calum said lowly, folding his arms across his chest.
"Not to mention we have promo coming up, like loads of it." Michael added, checking his phone for the date. I did the same. Great. In a couple of weeks we were beginning promo for our newest single, whilst we put the finishing touches to our album. It was almost complete but we had a change of heart with a couple of the songs and wanted to push the release back. It was easier to release the odd single whilst we were still sorting it out, that way we could keep the fans happy whilst we worked on the rest.
"Shit." I cursed, running my hands through my hair as I looked down at the floor. Was it really now or never? Would it feel worse coming from me now, after I'd known her for weeks and said nothing? Would her finding out in Calum's house be better because I could then pretend that I kept it quiet for our safety? I sighed heavily. "Let's get everything ready."
The room fell into a deafening silence for a moment, my body not wanting to give enough energy to get me to stand. We all remained still, taking in what was really happening over the next few days, weeks, months. Ivy was back, she'd stalk all of us to get closer to me, she'd try to befriend Kira, maybe even Lys and Cody now. She would become irrational, do stupid things to get my attention... it was all about to start again.
The ear-piercing scream of my daughter echoed the room along with a thud and the shattering of glass. The four of us remained frozen for a second before Calum and I ran towards the kids room, where Kira, Lys and Cody all were.
"Kira!" I shouted as we ran down the hall. My heart was in my mouth. What had I missed? Had Lys just kidnapped her? Had she hurt her? Was she someone who worked with Ivy? I glanced over at Calum, the worry on my face enough to panic him as we practically barged the door down and, at first, saw no one in the room. The window was smashed, small shards of glass littering Cody's bed and the floor surrounding it. My heart dropped. I'd lost Kira. I stumbled into Calum slightly, clutching onto him for balance as we took the sight in. But suddenly, we heard quiet sobs. Calum and I walked slightly further in, our shoes crunching on the broken glass as we walked round a chest of drawers to see Lys crouching down, both kids safely by the wall with her protecting them. I shut my eyes as I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Daddy!" Kira said through a sob as she ran from Lys to myself, flinging herself into me. I picked her up and held her, hugging her so tightly I was scared I'd break her. Those few seconds where I thought she had gone were the worst I'd ever felt. Calum continued towards Lys, bending down to talk quietly to her and Cody. He looked behind him at something on the floor, which my eyes fell to as well, and noted a large rock with a note stuck to it with loads of elastic bands. He looked up at me with worry in his eyes.
"Let's take the kids in with Ash and Mike." He suggested, which Lys thankfully accepted. Calum picked Cody up and carried him out of the room, me following with Kira in my arms as we left Lys in the room ready to discuss what had happened as soon as the kids were gone.
