Chapter 5

“Where were you guys? We looked behind us when we got to the stables but you weren’t there,” Adam huffed at me.

I rolled my eyes, “We took a short cut…”

“Some short cut, took you awhile, we were about to send someone to look for you two.”

“Adam--” I was interrupted by Seto.

“It was my idea, not Ty’s, I’m sorry… but I just wanted to talk with Ty briefly, you understand, right?” Seto was referring to Adam’s close friendship with Jason, being that they grew up together, like me and Seto.

Adam faltered with his words then sighed. He laughed and brushed his hair out of his face, “Yeah, yeah, sure. Glad to have you back though, welcome back to the team Seto!” I jumped up and cheered, so did the others. We all walked back to the same stable boy who had cared for my horse, finding him I led it out of the stables, saddling him up with the others.

“Oh no Ty, that’s my horse! You took my horse,” Adam walked over leading my horse at the same time. He handed me the lead and hugged his horse by the neck, “Ty didn’t hurt you right?” I giggled as I watched Adam fawn over is horse, he really loves it.

I led my horse this time and saddled him up. Hoisting myself up I realized Seto didn’t have a horse, “Seto! You can ride with me.”

Seto shook his head, “Oh no, that’s fine, I’m perfectly fine teleporting.”

“But that uses up your energy,” Quentin pointed out.

“Since being gone I’ve built up quite the magical stamina, so it’s perfectly fine.”

“Come on Seto,” I pouted, but he just laughed and teleported 20 blocks in front of us.

“Well, hurry up! Seto waits for no one!” Seto shouted then continued to teleport, I grinned and hugged my horse, it trotted forwards then moved into a gallop. The others hurriedly tried to catch up with me and Seto, but Seto always remained ahead.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Seto was waiting patiently at our base’s stables, he was leaning against the frame of the wooden posts. "Took you guys long enough!"

"Whatever dood!" Mitch answered back as he jumped off his horse and led it to the stables. The rest of us followed.

Afterwards we walked wearily into the base, Seto taking the lead. He turned abruptly on his heel and face us causing us all to stop. "Man, it has been awhile since I've seen this place, and boy does it seem like it has changed!"

"Well of course! You left one day and we never heard from you for 3 years, do you expect it to look the same? We've been worried sick about you Seto...." Adam shouted.

"Calm down Adam," Jason quietly muttered to Adam, Adam sighed and relaxed.

"Soooooo... you had something to yell us?" Quentin broke the silence.

“Yes, where should I start?”

“Where have you been all this time?” Jerome asked. We all kept walking after Seto as he led us the the lounge.

"The truth? I was saving the world..." Seto zoned off and sat down in one of the lounge couches.

"What!? Why didn't you tell us!"Adam shouted as the rest of us sat down.

"I wanted to leave the rest of you guys out of it..."

Adam couldn't form any words so he sat down and grumbled. "Your back now which means you saved everyone, right?" Ian said.

At first there was silence then Seto spoke, "Actually, no..." he held up his hand as we all began to make noises of protest, " But that's why I'm back here for. I need your help I can't do this alone."

"You never had to do it alone, " I pointed out quickly.

“Well actually the task falls unto a sorcerer, that’s what I discovered upon researching, but I’m not strong enough--”

“Not strong enough!? You are like the strongest sorcerer I know,” Ian interrupted quickly throwing his arms up.

“Seto’s the only sorcerer we know,” Jerome mused.

“Quite the opposite… Ty here knows magic, he can help me.” Seto looked in my direction and so did everyone else their eyes wide in shock and confusion.

“W-whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold it, there must be some misunderstanding Seto. Yes you taught me some magic, but I can barely do anything! I can make smoke and an orb of light… that isn’t enough to save the world.” I inched backwards a bit as I tried clearing up the situation.

“But you can read that book.” Seto gestured to my hand which still held the mysterious book, “Its all written in Mythr Runes, a language I taught you to decipher, that book contains all my research on this threat.

“Ehh! Well you can have the book,” I tried arguing but my voice was wavering, “You can read it too, plus I want to help save the world, but I’m not the one who can do it, you are, you said the world had to be save by a sorcerer and that is not me.”

By now everyone was just watching as this argument unfolded, “I can’t do that,” Seto pushed the book away from him, “I meant for the book to be in your hand, I passed the book unto you, I trust you can help me complete what I have failed.”

“But…”

“I can not take what has been passed down, that book can now only be opened by you.”

I stayed silent as I processed all the information. Seto is telling me now I have to lead all this, now its my responsibility!? We are so screwed…

“Right! While this weird issue settles in… Seto, do you want to see the base again?” Jason broke the awkward silence and motioned for Seto to follow him. Seto walked after Jason and the rest of us began to follow, I still gazed down at the book in my hands as we walked. With a shaky hand I opened the book slightly, enough to tell the book opened but not enough to actually read the content of the pages.

I snapped the book shut when I noticed everyone was filing into Seto’s room. Once we were all there, standing in an awkward clump Jason said aloud, “Welcome back Seto!”

Seto grinned and took a deep breath, “Still smells the same!” We laughed and Seto looked around, his eyes squinted in focus, “Ok, who moved my chests and bed?” Silence enveloped all of us, we all know Seto dislikes it when his stuff gets moved around. He complains he can never find what he’s looking for anymore. Though it shouldn’t be hard to spot a bed and a few chests.

Everyone turned to face me as I slowly raised my hand, my face half hidden behind the book. Seto had his hands on his hips and he tapped his foot displeasingly, I inched backwards and then Seto disappeared. A moment later he was behind me, his glare apparent only by the chill felt down my back.

I spun around and put my hands in front of me as I stuttered, “W-whoa, whoa, whoa! Calm down Seto, I know you dislike your stuff being moved but their is a good explanation for that! I had to block the door because Adam would give me no peace to search for you!” I pointed an accusing finger at Adam whose mouth hung in shock.

“Hey don’t pin this on me~” he whined and pouted, then he quickly added, “We would’ve helped if you told us the full situation… Right guys?” He looked to the others for back-up but he was answered with silence.

“Actually Adam… We all thought he was dead, hence the funer--” Jerome started to speak but Mitch abruptly slapped his hand of Jerome’s mouth and gave out a nervous chuckle.

“What Jerome means to say is we thought Ty was acting strange and thought he needed some time alone… N-nothing about you being dead, haha, you know…” I’m pretty sure Mitch was trying to clear up the situation but it was extremely obvious that something was going on by the sweat on his face and the fidgeting of his legs. Like they were itching to leave.

“I do hope you remember I can just read minds, I won’t because it’s your personal privacy, but just be honest with me… Did you guys hold a funeral?” Seto deadpanned.

Quentin yelled, “It was Mitch’s idea!” Then he ran off.

I could see from the corner of my eye as everyone began to inch slowly towards the door and soon it was only Seto, Mitch and I in the room as the rest made a dash for the door. I was considering leaving Mitch to his fate but the Seto sighed and muttered, “I’m not mad, I can understand why you all thought that. But it still hurts…”

“I’m sorry dood!” Mitch ran up and gave me a hug, a very tight hug might I add… “I didn’t mean any of this to happen, I just wasn’t sure how to cope with your disappearance, I thought-- we thought you were gone for good.” Why am I getting hugged? Shouldn’t this be Seto right here...

“I’m not Seto” I managed to choke out, “Losing air now!”

“Wait, what! Sorry," Mitch laughed lightly and let me go, Mitch walked over to Seto, I think to give him a hug but Seto held up his hands.

“I forgive you, and no hug please.”

“You sure?” Seto nodded in reply and all three of us walked out of his room. Closing the door softly behind me I faced Seto.

“Just a quick question…” I began.

“Go ahead shoot.”

“What happened to your eyes?” Something that has been bugging me for a while is that Seto’s eyes have changed colors. One of his eyes is his normal syrupy brown color, but the other… it’s now a magenta. A color only seen when he’s using magic, it make no sense to me why only one eye is that color if he’s using magic and why no one has pointed it out.

“What do you mean Ty? They’re the same as always, same crazy colors!” Mitch joked and punched me lightly in the arm. I was shocked that he had said that, that shouldn’t be right. Mitch walked on ahead as I stood back.

“You ok Ty?” a hand waved in front of me snapping me back to reality. I jolted upwards as Seto faced me, he reached for my forehead, “Do you have a fever?”

I stumbled backwards before his hand reached me and muttered a quick ‘no’.

“Ok…” Seto strode forward and then said to me as I followed behind him, “My eyes are just fine, just like they’ve always been.”

Always? Always!? I don’t get it, why is it only I seem to remember what they actually look like. This isn’t right, what’s going on. You’d think I know what they look like…

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It took some wandering around to find the guys. During the time I put off the contradictions about Seto’s eyes and we talked about all that we have missed. I learned a little bit more of what Seto did in his time gone, most of it was still shrouded in mystery but that’s ok.

Most of the guys were surrounded around the table in our meeting room, where a large map of the land was laid out. Only people absent were Jason and Mitch.

Jerome looked up and said, “You guys seen Mitch?”

“Uh no… not since he ran off after talking to Seto, he might just be in his room,” I answered, Jerome nodded absent-mindedly and looked back at the map talking to Ian every now and then.

“What about Jason, where’d he run off too?” Seto said as we both crowded around the table.

“Oh! After we decided we needed a plan of action to save the world, Jason said he was going to fix up that suit of his… Finally, we all know it has been hard on him without it.” Adam gleefully explained.

"That's great!" I answered back.

"Yep!"

"So what are you all up too right now?" Seto glanced at the map and I looked down at it too. It was covered in little marks, this is the same map that we normally use to help figure out location and pinpoint important things.

"Oh, we're just looking for places to gather some supplies, we've been out of commission for a really long time," Jerome brought up, I noticed Ian left the room.

"A-and whether you like it or not Seto, we've already decided we are following you and Ty on this adventure. no questions asked!" Adam quickly added onto Jerome and Ian came back with some sandwiches, which I happily grabbed one.

"That's not a good i--"

"Nuh!" Adam interrupted.

"No, seriously--"

"Uh uh!"

"But..."

"Shuuusshhh! Just let it happen!"

"Fine..." Seto surrendered, and just then Jason came in with his suit on, fully polished and upgraded. He held his helmet off to the side and wore a goofy grin on his face.

"Hey guys! What's the update on things?" Jason rested his helmet on the table and peered at the map.

"We're just deciding a course of action now that I forced... I mean got Seto to agree to let us help."

"Sandwiches?" Ian held out the same plate of sandwiches I grabbed from and everyone reached for one, except Seto.

"You gonna eat bud?" Quentin asked between a mouthful of bread and lettuce, he directed his question at Seto who looked up from reading the map and saw Ian holding out a plate of sandwiches to him.

"O-oh no... I'm good actually, I ate before we met up"

"But that was like an hour ago..., you need to keep your strength up, plus all that teleporting must make you tired." Ian tried coaxing Seto to eat but Seto declined some more.

"Nah, don't worry about it, I told you I've built up a great deal of stamina since I've been gone, the teleporting didn't even bother me."

Ian opened his mouth to protest but the power was cut off and everything shut down, we were blanketed in complete darkness.

'Holy sh**!!" I yipped, I could see no one and I felt myself stumble backwards as a hand touched my face.

"Oh sorry, whoever that was," Adam said.

A sudden small bright light shined in my face and then was immediately pointed elsewhere as I squinted my eyes. Jason's suit! Thank god for that, it runs on solar-power and has its own light sources.

"Jason I'm startled!" Jerome yelled.

'Hey! That is my line!"

"Shush the both of you, we need to get this power back on! Ian hissed, both of them shut up and I snickered quietly to myself.

"Jason, you think you can make it to the power generator?" He nodded since his light bobbed up and down, "Good, take a buddy." I heard Jerome give out a small small shriek as I assumed he was dragged away.

"W-wait what about Mitch!" He yelled.

"Don't worry fluffy, we'll check up on him for you," Adam shouted back, "Right we should make our way over to Mitch's room."

I heard mutters of agreement and then a small orb of light flashed beside me, "I'll take the back, Ty you should take the front."

I nodded and moved my way closer to the front and chanted a small incantation for light. A small beam of light shone from my hand and I faced it in front of me as we all began to sneak our way to the rooms.

"Where'd all the sunlight go anyways?" Quentin asked.

"It's an eclipse, a sign that time is running out, we need to hurry and gather up everyone before the mobs start spawning in." Seto answered Quentin from all the way in the back.

Just as if it were on cue I heard the growl of a zombie and banging on the door. Loud noises of footsteps reached my ear as I walked straight into a running figure. With an oof the person fell backwards and the clattering of their sword was heard. Everyone behind me stopped and I could feel them peer over my shoulder to see who it was.

"Mitch we need to move now!" Quentin made his way to the front and hoisted Mitch up, I bent down and grabbed his sword. The door broke down with a heavy clatter and the sounds of mobs rushing in could be heard.

"Go!" Adam yelled and we all stumbled forward, I didn't know where we were going but the first door I saw I opened and motioned everyone in.

With a heavy sigh I leaned against the door from the inside and closed it, everyone was breathing hard. The lights flickered on and there were quiet cheers and whoops. Looking around I realized this was Mitch’s room.

It was easy to tell since Mitch’s room is actually pretty messy except the shelves on his wall where a range of weapons all sat. Mitch hordes weapons and rest them on racks of shelves, they all have a specific order to, first types of weapons are separated, then material of weapons, and then durability. Enchanted weapons rest right above his bed in item frames.

“This is pretty lucky," Ian muttered as he picked up an iron sword from one of the shelves, inspected it, then placed it back. His eyes wandered to the other weapons around him and I noticed everyone pick up a weapon.

"Whoa! Put it down! These are my precious collection, ahh! You're going to scratch them!" Mitch started to panic and snatched the swords and knives and bows from everyone. I forgot to mention Mitch is very protective of his weapons and doesn't like other people touching or using them.

"Dood! You have like a million weapons here and we need something to fight with, you going to have us fight with our fists?" Ian glared at Mitch as he yelled and Mitch’s eyes shifted downward guiltily. "Plus Jerome doesn’t have one so we need to get them one. You can spare a few."

Mitch faltered and sighed, "Fine, but DON'T scratch my babies."

"Mitch they're weapons..."

Mitch answered Ian with a glare.

"Alright, alright we won't scratch them! Right guys?" I nodded and realized I still had Mitch’s sword.

"Opps, sorry," I held out my hand with the sword and Mitch stared at it for a moment  unsure of whether to take it or not.

Then he shook his head and said, "Nah just use it, you might as well."

"You sure?"

He nodded and behind us Quentin yelled a sword raised in his hand, "Yeah! Let's go kill us some butts!" I broke out laughing and cheering with the others at the same time.

Let's go save the world!
