Chapter 15

Adrien's POV

I feel a nudge on my shoulder. Groaning a little, I wake up.

There's no hint of sun radiating through the windows, not even a single pale ray. My head droops back down to the soft pillow.

Wait, I'm not holding Marinette's hand anymore! Where'd she go? Did the villains take her? She better be okay...

"Kitty, wake up," I hear her sweet voice whisper.

And then I smell croissants, oranges, and strawberries. Tartine, too. And coffee.

"Breakfast?" I ask eagerly.

"Yes. They brought it up to us when I requested it."

"Oh... fancy." I yawn, still groggy.

"There's a lot of stuff here. But you can't have it until you get up!"

The bed is so comfortable though! I find myself burrowing into the sheets.

Marinette strokes my hair. "Come on, get your breakfast while it's still warm."

"What time is it?"

"Around 4:45."

4:45? What? "Huh?" I turn to her for an explanation.

"Well... I thought we should wake up early so we could catch a bus before sunrise."

She means a bus out of here. Away from the villains. Yet I can hear the melancholy in her voice. She misses her miraculous. Her family. Her home.

I find the strength to get up in my will to hug her tightly.

Marinette hugs me back for a long time, resting her head on my shoulder. I stroke her hair, hoping I can provide her with some comfort. I won't let her be alone in this.

Soon we let go of each other. She hands me a plate, and we sit on the bed to eat.

"Where are we going?" I ask.

She shrugs. "Anywhere, I guess."

Anywhere. It's so thrilling, the thought of going anywhere. Father never gave me the freedom to go wherever I wanted. But now... now is different. My heart sinks.

"Do you need to get anything before we go?" Marinette asks me.

"No. Do you?"

She thinks, but she says nothing.

"Marinette? If you need anything, I'll get it for you," I tell her.

"Oh, I was just thinking about my sketchbook," she says quietly.

Her sketchbook. It really meant a lot to her. All those designs she poured her heart and soul into... "We could stop to your house and get it."

Her hand rests on top of mine. "No. We can't go back." She swallows. "I meant... do we need to buy anything?"

The sorrow she's hiding makes my heart ache. She needs her sketchbook, or something like it. "I could buy you a new one."

Marinette shakes her head. "No thanks. I don't need it. And it... it wouldn't be the same." She takes our empty plates and sets them on the nightstand. With a shaky breath, she asks, "Ready to go?"

"Yeah."

We put on our shoes and head out the door.

Hey everyone!  I updated!  I would just like to say thank you for reading and enjoying this story.  It's been getting a lot of new readers these past few days, and I never expected people to like it so much!  However, there is something else I'd like to talk about.

Currently, I am very busy with theater.  I got the lead role in a play.  I have to wake up at 7:00 AM every weekday, and practice lasts from around 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  We're starting performances this Friday, and they will be lasting until the 28th.  I also have a boyfriend I'm trying to make time for, as well as a cottage my parents bring me to a lot on the weekends.  With all that going on, I am usually very tired when I have free time, and sometimes I just can't bring myself to write.  I will try to update when I can, but please, don't pressure me.  It can get overwhelming.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for understanding.  You guys are awesome!!!
