Chapter Three: Lost

Everyone in the Haven was stunned from shock. The trainer called his Pokemon back, walked up to the Pokeball, and gingerly picked it off of the ground.

"I got Virizion!" the trainer cheered.

"V- Virizion," I stuttered, unable to comprehend, "Is... gone?"

"She was... caught," Shadow muttered in disbelief.

"Virizion? Caught?" I mumbled, "No, th- that can't be! I REFUSE TO ACCEPT IT!"

I placed myself in front of the trainer, growling threateningly.

"Go away, you fluffball," the trainer stated, "find another legendary to snuggle up to."

I growled again, launching myself at him.

"Whoa!" the trainer shouting. He turned and ran. I gave pursuit, chasing him out of the Rumination Haven and deep into the Pinwheel Forest.

The trainer clipped a Pokeball off his belt and tossed it into the air, revealing a Swoobat.

"Swoobat, Hypnosis!" the trainer called.

Swoobat turned to face me, her eyes glowing red. Two red circles flew towards me, gradually growing larger.

My eyelids drooped and I halted my pursuit of the trainer. Drowsily, I collapsed onto to ground and fell asleep.

I groggily blinked open my eyes, yawned, and stretched. I observed my surrounded, momentarily wondering why I was not in my bed. Then I remembered. I growled in fury, spinning around to find the trainer and get Virizion back, only to notice none of my surroundings were familiar.

Here, the forest was dark, and the sound of unfamiliar Pokemon echoed through the branches.

"Shadow? Wings?" I called out tentatively, hoping one of my friends had thought to pursue me. The unfamiliar Pokemon noises were my only answer.

I heard a rustling noise of someone nearby. Clinging to the hope that one of my friends had followed me, I crept towards the noise. Following the noise, I came upon a clearing and stared through the bushes.

Instead of one of my friends, a human was standing in the clearing with a Flygon by her side. I snarled unconsciously. A human. I hated humans. They only ever seemed to mess things up.

However, this human appeared... different. Despite the fact that she clearly had no Pokeballs, the Flygon stayed by her side, helping her set up camp. Moreover, her outfit was unlike any I had seen. She had short, caramel colored hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a red jacket over a blue and white t- shirt with blue shoes. She also had on blue gloves, a yellow scarf, and red goggles. Around her wrist was a strange, disk- like thingy.

I turned to leave before I was spotted. However, a bramble caught my foot, and I tripped, involuntarily yelping.

"Flygon, did you hear that?" I heard the girl inquire. I struggled, vainly trying to get the bramble to off, only to succeed in getting more tangled, as I heard the girl approaching. The leaves rustled and I looked up to see the girl staring down through the bushes at me.

"Leave me alone," I snarled at her, in an attempt to scare her away.

The girl blinked, compassion showing in her deep brown eyes. "Are you okay, Shinx?" the girl asked.

I only snarled in reply. I was tangled in brambles. Did I look okay?

"Here, let me get those brambles off of you," the girl offered, reaching down towards the brambles. I snapped at her hand and growled again. She quickly withdrew here hand and sighed, "I really didn't want to do this, but..." she held up her hand that had the disk thing on it. "CAPTURE ON!" she yelled.

A top- like thing flew out of the disk and circled me in a glowing white line. I stared at the line, confused. The circle converged on me, and I instantly could sense a feeling of friendship coming from the girl. It was unlike any feeling from a human I had ever sensed. The top flew back to the disk, disappearing back inside with a click.

The girl approached me and started to untangle the brambles. I didn't snap at her, but watched her carefully, still not one hundred percent sure I could trust her.

"How did you even get yourself so tangled?" the girl questioned, unwrapping the last bramble, "There. You're free."

I gave each of my paws a shake, then sat down to clean them.

"Flygon, could you keep this Shinx company while I grab some food?" the girl inquired.

"Sure!" I heard a distinctly feminine voice reply. The girls moved to the side as a large Flygon took her place next to me. "HI! I'm Flygon! What's your name?" Flygon asked cheerfully.

"I'm Sparky," I answered, eying the large Pokemon suspiciously.

"Hey, don't look at me like that," Flygon pouted, "What did I do to you?"

"Sorry," I stated, "I just have never had much luck with Pokemon owned by humans."

"Well, lucky for you, no human owns me!" Flygon exclaimed, "I'm partners with this Ranger. She doesn't own me."

The girl called to Flygon, "Flygon! I have your food!"

"FOOD!!!" Flygon shouted, immediately leaving.

I snorted and continued cleaning myself. Suddenly, I smelled the distinct scent of a Razz Berry. Poking my head out of the bush, I saw the girl holding a Razz Berry in her outstretched hand. "Go on. Take it," she urged gently.

I cautiously approached her and gingerly took the berry out of her hand. I nibbled on it and watched the girl out of the corner of my eye.

"I didn't introduce myself, did I?" The girl asked. "My name is Samantha. I'm a Pokemon Ranger who was sent to patrol the Pinwheel Forest. This," she held out her arm with the disk, "Is called a Capture Styler. Ranger's use it to befriend Pokemon. My partner is Flygon. What's your name?"

I made a small spark, hoping she was smart enough to clue in.

"Spark?" she guessed. I shook my head. "Sparky?" I nodded.

"That's great!" Samantha exclaimed.

Suddenly, her Capture Styler beeped. "There are three baby Growlithe in a river near you! You must get them out!" a voice announced.

"I will!" Samantha replied. Turning to Flygon, she stated, "We have another mission. Come on!"

"Ready!" Flygon confirmed, licking berry juice off her face.

Samantha turned to me. "Are you coming?" she inquired.

I agreed, thinking of the three baby Growlithe at the Rumination Haven; Flare, Ember, and Fluff. If they had fallen into a river, I would be terrified.

Samantha pulled out a map and started out towards the river at a quick pace, with Flygon and I following.

We quickly arrived at the stream. The first part was rather calm, however, where we were standing, the river changed into foamy rapids. Samantha quickly scanned the river, and, pointing upstream, she exclaimed, "There they are!"

I spotted three small bundles of russet colored fur, and their voices carried upstream.

"Yeah, great idea, Flare! 'Let's get stones from the river,' you say. 'We won't fall in,' you say!" I heard one of them shout.

"I didn't know the stream was this big, Ember!" a voice replied.

"We're gonna die!" another voice wailed, "We're all going to die!"

"Flare, Ember, and Fluff?" I asked. It couldn't be... those three... As the three Growlithes came closer, I saw that they were truly Flare, Ember, and Fluff, struggling to paddle against the current.

"Let's help them, Flygon," Samantha stated, wading into the river.

Flygon nodded and flew over the water, scooping up Flare. Samantha reached for Ember. After grabbing Ember, she reached for Fluff, but the current swept the small Growlithe out of her reach and into the rapids.

"HELP ME!" Fluff cried, "I don't wanna die!"

"FLUFF!" I shouted, running along the shore after her. Diving into the water, I paddled towards her, and grabbed her as the current swept me by her. I let the current steer us towards a large rock, and caught onto it as we past it. I place Fluff up onto it before hauling myself up after her, panting.

Flygon landed on a rock next to us. She gently picked up Fluff, then Flygon lowered her head allowing me to climb onto her back. She lifted off of the rock and flew towards the bank of the river, where Samantha was drying Ember off with a towel.
