chapter twelve
not edited
After waking up and showering, Alice got ready for the day before hearing her doorbell ring. It'd been a week or two since Stan last stayed, and to her luck she hasn't seen the clown since. She walked downstairs and opened the door, seeing Beverly there with a small smile on her face.
"Ready to head to Bill's garage?" The red head asked the shorter girl, to which she just smiled and grabbed her backpack before running out and grabbing her bike.
The two girls biked to Bill's, Beverly's eyes scanning Alice repeatedly. She looked different than the last time they actually hung out, which was about a week ago at the Fourth of July celebration. When they all admitted they'd seen something, and when Richie admitted to the others that he was afraid of clowns.
She noticed Alice's ankle was out of the bandage, and it wasn't swollen anymore. It was still bruised, which made Alice feel really insecure because you could easily look down and see the ugliest purple bruise all around her ankle.
They approached Bill's, all of the others were already there. They dropped their bikes off with the others', and walked inside Bill's garage where he had a map of Derry hung up, along with a projector set up.
"What's this?" Alice asked, as Eddie grabbed a chair and took a seat in front but next to the projector. Ben sat in the same area, but on the other side as Bill stood behind it with Beverly sitting next to him. Stan and Richie sat behind Eddie, with Mike behind them as Alice stood next to the closed garage door awkwardly.
Eddie noticed, turning and waving her over to him, which she gladly shared the chair he was sitting in. Even though Stan's plan was to figure out why Bill was spending so much time next to Beverly, Alice never went through with it. She ended up just staying home for a while, until Eddie finally came to her house asking to go to the Fourth of July celebration with him and the others, where she found out that her and Stan weren't the only two seeing things.
Bill started talking about how everywhere that things happen, they all connect through the sewers. As he proceeded to talk, them figuring out that the well house was the creepy house on Neibolt Street, Eddie's breathing started to get heavy.
"Are you okay Eds?" Alice asked, and Eddie just shook his head, before standing up and angrily walking over to the map hung up on the wall. "I'm not doing this! That's where I saw it!" He said, ripping the map off of the wall.
"What the hell, put the map back!" Bill asked, earning a look from Eddie. Eddie pursed his lips, shaking his head as he dropped the map from his hands. "Nuh uh." He said, and before anyone could say anything else, the photos on the projector switched.
Eddie's eyes widened and he turned, seeing photos pop up on the wall. The photos got faster, and it went from a family photo of the Denbrough's to Bill's mom, but it wasn't Bill's mom in the photo.
It was the clown, and he was smiling an evil smirk, and Alice gasped.
"That's- that's the clown." She mumbled, standing up and knocking the chair her and Eddie had been sitting on in the process.
"What is that, what the fuck is that?!" Richie asked, grabbing onto Eddie. They held onto each other, as the clown's face came into perfect view. Alice's breathing got heavy, and she heard Beverly yell at Bill to turn it off. Mike quickly kicked over the projector, lots of the photos coming out in the process.
Stan was standing by the screen, and stared at the screen with wide eyes. "Stanley!" Alice called, running and grabbing onto his arm. She pulled him back and away from the projector, as the clowns blurry face disappeared from the screen completely.
It clicked again, and the clowns face appeared again- but this time much scarier. It's mouth was wide open, razor sharp teeth sticking out. Alice squealed, as it looked around before coming toward Stan and Alice.
They backed up, as Bill screamed Alice's name before they got the garage door open. When it was opened, the clown disappeared. Alice was clinging onto Stan as if she let go something would happen, and tears were streaming down her face as she clutched his shirt in her fists.
Bill jogged toward them, pulling Alice out of Stan's grip. He didn't care that she had been holding onto Stan tightly, Bill almost lost Alice and that was too much for him. He'd already lost Georgie, and losing Alice would've pushed him over the edge, maybe him go crazier than he already seemed.
Before they knew it the group came together, giving a giant group hug. They were all sad, almost losing Stanley and Alice, which they all loved both of them dearly. Soon enough, the entire group pulled away.
"L-let's go." Bill said, walking into the direction toward his bike. "What are you talking about?" Richie asked.
"The h-house on N-Neibolt Street. Th- that's where It's hiding." Bill said, and the others slowly walked away.
"Are you fucking crazy?!" Richie asked, "We literally just saw that fucking monster! Alice and Stan almost got grabbed and you're wanting to go after it?!"
"Look, you don't have t-to come w-with me, but I m-might be able to f-find Georgie." He mumbled, grabbing his bike and pedaling away.
"Why do you like this kid?" Richie turned to Alice, "He's fucking crazy." Alice stood there for a moment, before sighing. "Well then I guess I'm crazy too." She mumbled, before running as best as she could to her bike and hopping on, pedaling behind Bill.
"Bill, wait!" She called, but he didn't listen to her. He just kept pedaling, finding his way to the creepy house. She'd never gone in it, hated even walking by it or biking by it.
"God damnit." Richie mumbled, following Stan and Eddie who'd followed Alice. Beverly, Mike, and Ben followed behind them, and soon all of them came face to face with the house.
"Bill please think about this." Stan said. "You guys didn't have to follow me. Didn't have to come. You could've gone home, and let me do this by myself. But what happens when another Georgie or Betty or one of us disappear? Are you just going to ignore everything like everyone else in this town does? Well I'm not. I can't." Bill stopped, tears filling his eyes.
It hurt Alice to see him like this, it made her cry, too. "I go home, and the only thing I see and notice is that Georgie isn't there. Everything else is. His room, his clothes, his toys just- just everything. Except for him. So walking into this house-" He stopped, pointing behind him. "Is easier for me than walking into my own home."
Bill turned away from the group, and Alice took in a breath before calling out to Bill. "Bill wait!" She said, catching everyone's attention. "I'll- I'll come with you." She said, earning a small smile from Bill.
"Wait, shouldn't we have someone keep watch?" Stan said. "Wh-who wants to stay and keep watch?" Bill asked, and everyone raised their hands minus Bill, Beverly and Alice.
"Let's pull straws." Richie said, grasping a giant handful of grass. Everyone pulled theirs out, minus Alice and Bill, and Eddie and Richie pulled the shortest out.
The four walked into the creepy house, taking in its surroundings as the door was slowly shut behind them.
"You guys are so lucky we didn't measure dicks." Richie commented, earning a snicker from Alice as they continued in the house.
"Beep beep, Richie." Eddie said, rolling his eyes. Alice watched as Richie made his way into the room over, picking a piece of paper up. "Missing?" He asked, his eyes widening.
"This says I'm missing!" Richie said, his hands starting to shake. The other three made their way over to Richie, who was hysterical. "This is me! My shirt, my hair, my glasses, my birthday and today's date!"
"Richie calm down you're not missing. It's fake, remember?" Bill said, putting his hands on Richie's shoulders. "It's fake, it's fake." Alice said, taking the paper from Richie's hands and throwing it down. "It's not real, Rich." She added, pulling him in for a hug.
They heard a loud noise from upstairs, causing them to freeze. "L-let's go see what th-that was." Bill said quietly after hearing a voice scream for help.
They made their way upstairs, Richie after Bill and Eddie after him. Alice was behind the others, shaking slightly as they hit the top.
They saw Betty Ripsom, and before she could say anything she was pulled off to where we couldn't see.
Bill and Richie started to head toward the room, but Alice grabbed Bill's arm. "Please don't. He might be in there." She pleaded, but Bill just gave a soft smile before turning and continuing to walk in there.
Alice turned, seeing Eddie walking in the other direction.
"Bill has Richie, he'll be okay." She mumbled to herself, before walking toward Eddie. "Eddie what are you looking at?" Alice asked, walking closer to Eddie.
"Eds?" She asked again, but he just pulled his aspirator out, using it to help him breathe better. Alice stood right behind him, seeing what he was looking at. A leper, just like he'd mentioned before.
"Let-let's get out of here." Alice grabbed Eddie's arm. He turned, running past her and right before he could get into the room that Richie and Bill were in, the door slammed shut.
"Open the door!" Eddie and Alice screamed at the same time, and they turned to see the leper getting closer to them. Eddie stepped back lightly, and the floor fell through, Eddie going with it.
"EDDIE NO!" Alice screamed, bending down. He landed on what looked like a now broken table, and he lightly lifted his head up before passing out. Alice looked up, and the leper was gone.
"Bill!" She called, banging on the door. "Help!" She screamed, jiggling the doorknob. "Alice!" Bill called in return, trying his best to get the door open.
Alice let go of the doorknob, turning and finding her way to an edge of the floor that she could hang onto. She knew she had to be careful not to fall on Eddie, and not fall on her foot wrong since it's still healing from Henry pushing her. She would just use the stairs, but her problem is there's a gigantic hole between her and the staircase.
Falling to the floor below her, she winced as something cut open her arm. "Fuck." She mumbled, crawling her way over to Eddie.
"Eddie wake up." She said, shaking him lightly. Looking down, she noticed he'd broken his arm in the fall.
"Bill!" She screamed, as Eddie woke up. "Eddie you're awake." She said, and his eyes widened as he looked at his arm. "Did I-" Alice just nodded, and his eyes widened once again as he noticed her arm bleeding. "Are you okay?" He asked, and she just smiled lightly at him. "Don't worry about me Eddie, you have a broken arm." He just smiled a pained smile at her, before his eyes filled with fear.
"A-alice." He mumbled, using his good hand to turn her head. Behind her a refrigerator door opened, and out came Pennywise the dancing clown.
