Chapter Three

Again, life went on in Denver, Colorado.

Yes, we didn't leave after the incident.
Saige acted like she was a writer for a job most of the time even though she can't write to save her life, but that's one of the things I love about her.

She pretty much is a mother to me. I love her and she loves me. She always can see the bright side of things, and her descriptions of food and books are literally to die for. Saige got me to start reading books, and I fell in love with the first word of every single one.

Daveed is a different story.

On Lorien, the rule was to only have one Cepan, which also makes me special in a way that isn't as important.

Saige is my real Cepan and Daveed is her husband which makes me their "daughter" here on earth.

But the truth is, I know he hates me. I don't think he could ever love someone like Saige, who is so happy and cheery. I don't know how Saige loved him.

They were polar opposites.

Saige was the sun; Daveed was the moon.
Saige was the nice, cool water; Daveed was hot, flaming, fire.
Saige was an angel; Daveed was a demon.

And when I say he is a demon, I mean almost like the prince of darkness.

He was evil, corrupt, and a douchebag. He made me feel the true meaning of terror and death every single day. He hurt me in ways I could never tell another human being. He made me feel abandoned in every single way possible.

The worst thing is; he was supposed to protect me.

Saige, on the other hand, is a blessing. She is kind, caring, loving, and the list goes on. I love Saige dearly. She helped me learn how to lie and how to pass off as a normal human being. She taught me how to play the piano and guitar, how to shoot a basketball, and how to kick a soccer ball.

But most importantly, she taught me how to control myself.

Again, I'm definitely not normal. My father was an all-powerful Loric ruler, and my mother was a hidden gem in the rough. I'm a hybrid of potential.

Of course, I inherited my father's Legacy of Ximic, the ability to copy and paste Legacies into your arsenal of abilities, and the basic telekinesis.

But I also inherited my mother's rare Legacy.

There's not a true name for it, but it's mostly known as Vox. The Legacy of voice. Basically, whenever I sing, something seems to happen at random. Different songs cause different things to happen. Sometimes it's elemental. Sometimes it's mental. Sometimes it changes how I look. Sometimes it changes how other people act.

It always depends on the song.

Even on Lorien, it was rare. Not many people inherited Vox, and if you had Vox, you were usually hidden away like Rapunzel.

Vox is too powerful for just one person to have. Ironic, right?

I started developing my Legacies at the age of seven. Saige wanted to start training me right away, and tried. But Daveed didn't believe that I needed training. He kept trying to get Saige to put it off.

This correlates with the time he started drinking, too.

Every single night, while Saige was out running errands or doing something, I was afraid. As soon as he came home, I would become a slave. I would be beaten, cut, and yelled at endlessly. Many of my scars come from him and his treacherous ways.

 Saige never knew.

Just as she taught me, I hid my true feelings and hid everything about me to everyone.

I learned how to do makeup to cover up the scars and bruises. I figured out how to hide the nightmares in my head every night. And I learned how to fight back.

I didn't fight back very much, because when I did, Daveed would make up some lame excuse or act like I hurt him with no reason. But he when he threatened me, I took it seriously.

I hate myself for being so weak and terrified in my own house. I hate myself for letting this happen to me.

 I'm done.

I'm done with the fears in my life.

I'm done with the the cage around me.

I feel like I should have the chance to fly to Neverland or see the world.

I'm done with having my destiny as a innocent, shut-away princess and letting people decide for me.

I'm done with having my destiny laid out in front of me.

I'm done with raising a tiny, white flag.

 It's time.

It's time to raise myself up from the ashes.

 That's why I have a plan. Sure, it's risky but I have a plan.

 I'm leaving.

 Tonight.
