6: Game Plan
Looking For It,
Chapter 6: Game Plan,
I gripped the door handle. My breathing getting heavier as I thought about what I was going to do. A heavy, rhythmic thudding on my ribs kept me from think it was all a dream.
I glanced at the colored biscuits rolling in my fingers. A thud echoed up the stairs. A small whine started in my throat. I can't. I-I can't go down there. I'm a seventeen year old girl, I can't out run a wolf. Bear. Monster! I can't even get 15 laps on the school track.
I stepped back until I hit the bed softly. I'm screwed. I laid my head in my hands as I thought of my parents finding my body - what'll be left. Blood covering my floor, the bed, the walls. Goosebumps set a cold fire over my skin. I rubbed my arm.
All I wanted was some stupid pizza rolls. I whimpered as my eyes weld with salty water. I froze. My eyes searched the floor, ears straining. I could have swor- I gasped as the thudding got louder. The stairs squeaked uner weight. I inhaled sharply. The air seemed freezing as it filled my lungs and cause me to shudder and shake.
I flinched as it became louder and heavier. The soft tingling in my fingers made my eyes go wide and my head snapped toward my window, the open window gently blowing my curtains. As if a sign from the Gods. I hurried to open the window and sat on the seal. I glanced down and gulped.
Ship. It's go to be too far. Then again, I'm scared to hop off the stone planters in from of the school. My eyes followed the trunk of the tree outside. The closest branch was a few feet. If -and I mean if- I can jump off the window, I can make it.
"Breathe and jump. " I prepped myself. I pulled both legs over the edge, placing my feet flat on the side of the house. A thud exploded near my door. "YOLO?" I bent my body and pushed my body forward with all the strength my legs had.
The branch came faster than I thought and slammed my chest, knocking all air from my lungs. I gasped as gravity pulled on my legs. The branch's bark rough against my chest. I grasped at the tree, yelping as I couldn't grip anything with my soft hands.
I glanced down and whimpered. At least fifteen feet! I pulled up as much of my upper half as I could and leaned over the other side to lift my leg on top. I settled, straddling the tree and glanced as my room. My chest swelled with pride. Yeah, I did that. This girl! I smirked, looking through the window.
My eyes widened and my smirk dropped. A giant rabid dark brown wolf stood in my room at the foot of my bed. Its large nose flexed and sniffed until it came around to the window. The wind blew, my hair fluttering.
The scene from Twilight flashed in my brain and I held my breath. Stephanie please be wrong. Please. Please. Ple- It stepped to the window with a growl. Jinkies!
I turned and tried to slid down the branch to the base. At the clothes and bark friction, I stood slightly and just rapidly stepped down; like a slide at the park. I jumped from the base. "Ooffhh. "
I looked to my window and froze. I could only see my light pink ceiling. I took off in a sprint. I should have grabbed those dog treats. I stopped a few blocks from the house and leaned against a light pole. On the plus side, my exercise quota is filled for the next two years.
I huffed and puffed as I bent forward on my knees. My muscles felt on fire as they burn and tingle. A small growl pulsed in my stomach. I sighed as I realized I never got my pizza rolls.
"Gosh dang it."
