3: IT...?

Looking For It,

                          Chapter 3,

         It..?,

I froze as a loud pounding echoed through my room. "Jessica, get out of bed already. It's almost eleven!" My dad shouted. I groaned and pulled my knees to my chest, burying my face into my pillows.

"Jessica!" I jumped at his warning. The door opened and closed.

"Don't be a creeper, dad." I said into the pillow. He sat on the edge of my bed and collapsed on his back.

"What's wrong? Them? Jess, they'll be gone soon. Give them a chance."

"I did, they blew it."

"Jess, please. I tried to put this off, but you're 17. Time's up. You have to talk to them." He sat up as I glared at the bookcase. "I honestly don't like them either but I'm not making it obvious or making a fuss. It called being an adult unfortunately." He stood from my bed and walked to the door. "Please Jessica, for your mom." He closed the door behind him.

No. No. No. No. No. No...... Fine.

I sighed and pulled the blanket off. I shivered as I padded over to my dresser pulling out some clothes. Bra-check. Underwear-check. Jeans-check. Socks-check. I pulled on the tank top and grabbed a black plaid button down.

I grabbed my brush and walked to my mirror. My eyes widened. I quickly pulled the brush through my hair until it was straight-ish. I sighed and prepared myself for a whole lot of crazy shit. I nodded and walked out of my room, down stairs.

I ignored the sudden silence in the living room and the two additional elders as I walked to the fridge. I grabbed the milk and an apple, sent them on the counter and grabbed a spoon, bowl, and Cocoa Puffs. I served myself and put away the milk, then sat on the couch as far away from them as I could.

"Morning, sweetheart." Dad said, mouthing a thank you at the end. "Morning."

"Jessica, we'd like to speak to you." The woman said.

"And I'd like you to leave and never come back." I said sharply. My mom sighed.

"I'm sure you'd also like to have money, a job, and a house in the future, however if you don't talk to me then you won't get those." My head snapped to the old woman, my eyes narrowed.

"You don't have any control over that or me."

"I do. When we die, you'll get everything, including the family fortune, estate, and title. But a little girl like you, wouldn't be able to handle it."

"I am a woman! I have to pay a price for that every fucking month. I can handle anything. I just hate people who desert their familia! Ohana man, really!" I shouted standing up, setting my empty bowl on the table.

She quirks an eyebrow. "Oh really?" The man next to her shook his head slowly and my mother sighed. "Alright, if you think so. Prove it." I blinked.

"What? Prove what? How?"

"Mother, please." My mom begged.

"Shush, Kathryn. Jessica, to prove that you're mature and responsible enough to handle your inheritance, you must find it."

"It? Like Cousin It?"

She looked at my mother. "You two haven't told her anything have you! Shame on you!" She yelled. "It is something you need to live. Something everyone has. Som-"

"Skip the bullshit and tell me already!" She glared at me.

"It is a person who is of great value to you and you to them."

"What? Like my best friend?"

"No." She said bluntly, rolling her eyes. "Your goal is to find your soulmate."
