50 Days and Counting
My eyes opened once again, coating me in the light that was streaming through the window. Staring me right in the face was a man who had gelled, mousey hair and giant, green eyes that looked too big for his very slim face. He pressed his hand against my forehead, then shined a bright light into my eyes. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion then began to push him away but he grabbed onto my arm that wasn't pressed against the floor to stop me.
"DON'T TOUCH ME!" I screamed confused, wanting him to get off me, "GET OFF!".
With one final push, I got out of his grasp long enough to stand up and run out of the office that I remember being knocked out in. I ran past a confused Clark who, just like the man, tried to grab me but failed to do so. I ran out the door, ignoring the stinging pain in my chest because I just felt like I needed to go fly away. Even if I didn't take off (because wings didn't magically sprout on my back) I did feel so elated that I could lift off. Because standing before me was a Mrs.Humfrey in handcuffs, being led to a police car.
I quickly ran inside, to where everyone was sat being questioned by police and yelled,
"Guys! She's going!"
Everyone suddenly perked up from their slumped expressions and ran like a pack of hungry animals to the front door to get a glimpse of Mrs.Humfrey being shoved into the back of a police car whilst a cop recited her rights. She angrily grunted as her head was pushed in, and as the door was slammed shut, we all cheered and high fived.
"Well Jack, we did it, we sent Synder to the pen," said Jules in a herrendous Brooklyn accent.
"Oh. My. Gosh. Jules, I love you and all but that accent was awful. Leave the accents to Grace," Clark laughed whilst patting her on the back whilst she blushed a bright shade of fuchsia.
We all shared on more laugh ( a nervous one from Jules) before I was ushered away by a paramedic who had been called to check me over. For some reason, they decided that it would be best to get checked over at the hospital which I greatly disapproved of. They swatted my complaints away so to make my stubborn point, I walked with crossed arms into the back of the ambulance to prove I was fine. But they weren't having it and soon the ambulance doors were shut, whisking me away to the ER.
-.x.-
For some reason, after I had got out the back of the ambulance, they had a nurse with a wheelchair waiting for me. I protested again but was forced into the chair with several people telling me they have had far too many faints today and they can't face another one.
Reluctantly, I got into the chair before being briskly pushed into the emergency room. As we entered, I looked around the reception whilst a nurse recited what had happened and my blood pressure, heart rate etc, to a doctor who was walking beside him. The hospital smelled oddly strange, very different to what it usually smelt like - then I realized it was because someone had been sick in the waiting room. I scrunched my nose up in disgust and turned my attention back to the doctor.
She held the door open whilst the nurse pushed me in and helped me up onto the bed.
"Hi Grace, my name is Dr. Jordan and I'm just going to look over a few things, just stay still for me," she said.
I nodded in agreement but zoned out soon after only loosely following her instructions if she had asked me to move into a different position or bend a knee. I couldn't help but zone out - there was someone being monitored on the bed across the room who seemed rather familiar. Then it clicked,
"Oh my Gosh! Sky?"
The man in the bed looked over at me, a smile creeping on his face. He waved weakly at me still smiling but then wincing as if it caused him pain. The Dr finished up what she was doing then left the room telling me to stop annoying Sky and stay put.
As soon as she was out of view, I hopped off the bed and went to sit in the seat next to his bed.
"Hey kiddo, what did you do now?" he asked quietly, turning on his side to get into a more comfortable position to face me.
"I could ask you the same thing."
"I asked first!" he whined like a small child. Then again we all know he is actually still a child in a man's body.
"Fine," I sighed, "I took down my evil careworker. She was so mean and locked me in the basement - I'm fine don't look alarmed! Anyway, I had to get her fired so I got her to beat me up on camera and then she knocked me out - I DIDN'T PLAN IT! And then they were all worried about me so I was brought here. Honestly, I'm fine."
Sky had been on an emotional rollercoaster throughout the story time, unsure whether he should be proud, worried or go into parental mode.
"What about you?" I asked.
"Well I had dived into the orchestra pit, then Josh brought me here and they had to keep me in for overnight monitoring because I have a concussion."
"I know," I laughed," I was at the performance. Sorry I laughed."
He laughed at me but then his face turned bright red as he realized that I had seen him head dive into the orchestra pit.
"Grace," said a stern voice behind me.
I looked around nervously and came face to face with Dr. Jordan. I sighed and went to sit back on the bed where I'd been sat previously.
"You're good to go, " she started but before I could jump on the bed she held me down using one hand on my shoulder (she was surprisingly strong), "just rest. Please. I don't want to see you here again."
"Hey I didn't want to be here either," I scoffed before jumping off the bed. I walked over to Sky would was silently sniggering to himself.
"I'll - don't jump it's just me! Anyway, I'll see you before you at the theatre." I said sadly.
Before I could walk away, he grabbed my hand and turned me to face him.
"Two more stops Grace. Then - then you'll be home."
I smiled weakly at him before carefully hugging him and walking out. I greeted Miss Dayles in the waiting room. She slung an arm around me whilst we were walking out of the ER and down the road and whispered in my ear;
"You did great today Grace. Just know, after the tour when Josh reapplies, I'll accept straight away. He already got his New York apartment to be accepted as suitable and he has been deemed a suitable parent as well as Ben. The tour just needs to finish."
"How do you know about Josh?" I asked quite confused because I had never confided my plans with her.
"I know all," she said with a dramatic hand gesture causing me to laugh.
In all honesty, today couldn't have gone any better. Synder (as I had now dubbed her with thanks to Jules) is going away for a long time and I finally know that in 45 days tour will end and Josh and Ben will come back for me. Of course, I'd have to wait a few days after, but according to Miss Dayles and Josh not long. So, 50 days and counting.
