Chapter 9

Plasma's P.O.V.

I finished my last chore, weeding Mildew's garden, just as the sun sank behind Raven's Point. Stoick stormed up to me as I headed back to the hut. I looked at him with a glare as he shoved my list in my face. "Get to the pole!" he ordered before my heart jerked.

"But I got it all done!" I said. He suddenly pointed to an unmarked box, next to "Kill a dragon".

"Unless you can do all the chores before sundown, you must face the punishment," he said before shoving me toward the pole he was soon to tie me to.

"No, wait, please! I-uh-I can still do it," I said quickly.

"But you didn't and the sun is gone," he said before tying my wrists to the pole.

"It's a Razorwhip!" I said quickly, making him pause.

"A Razorwhip," he repeated thoughtfully and I nodded quickly. "Where is this Razorwhip?" he asked.

"I don't know. But I know it's on Berk, and I can bring you it's head," I said.

"Too bad, it's too late," he said before someone handed him the whip.

One hour later

Stoick cut the rope from my wrists and I fell to my knees as pain spread across my back and spine. "Don't expect this to teach you anything. It hasn't yet. You get a new chance every day and you never finish the list," he says. I bite my lip to hold back a response, tears blurring my vision.

"I'm starting to see why my father left," I hissed under my breath, making Stoick pause.

"Wanna say that again?" he asked.

"You heard me," I spit. He scowled as he threw his foot at my chest. My body flew backwards and my breath was driven from my lungs.

He walked away as I caught my breath, the youth of Berk staring at me. I looked at them before pushing myself to my feet, my legs shaky and my knees weak. Gergon took a step toward me and I flinched slightly, thinking he was going to copy Stoick. At my movement, he paused before his friends, my enemies, punched his shoulder, making him glance between me and them before following them to the ring. I breathed a sigh of relief before looking at the forest. I had to meet Avechi, but I had a curfew. I stumbled for Stoick's hut before going to the room that used to belong to my father. I fell on the bed and waited for Moonhigh, long passed when Stoick would be in his deepest sleep. I rolled my shoulders in a stretch as I waited for the darkest part of the night. Once the moon was at it's peak in the sky, I changed my tunic and opened my window before jumping to the ground. I then stuck to the shadows and dodged the village guards as I moved toward the forest.

I don't know why I trusted Avechi, but I did. She's given me more answers, and brought up more questions, than anyone on Berk ever has. Not to mention, the pull in my chest disappeared when she was on the island. I ran through the forest, my vision adjusting quickly to the dark. I dodged branches, flew over logs, and cleared streams until I came to a cliff. Avechi and her Razorwhip were sitting next to a fire, along with a blond woman and a Nadder. I jumped into the cove and landed with a summer salt before slowly walking toward the fire. Avechi was laying back against her dragons side as he curled his neck around her in a protective circle. The woman was sitting on a rock and her dragon was curled up at her side. The Nadder suddenly raised her head as I got closer, making the woman and Avechi look at me.

"Tawny," Avechi greeted as she stood. I was confused for a moment before remembering her telling me that my name had been Tawny before Berk took me.

"Avechi," I said with a nod, "I see you brought someone."

"This is Astrid. She's a former Hooligan," she said before I looked at the woman who stood from her rock.

"Former?" I repeated.

"I left the tribe when Stoick took you," she told me.

"Why'd you bring her?" I asked Avechi.

"You didn't seem too convinced when I left earlier. I brought her to tell you what Stoick was planning to do," Avechi said before I looked at Astrid expectantly.

"He thought your father was a stronger viking than him. Because the Master could see and tell a good natured dragon from a dangerous, or threatened dragon, Stoick wanted a way to make him weaker. He also wanted to try and change the Master's mind about the reptiles that attacked us. So, he took you to train you in the ways of dragon killers. He was going to return you after you became a skilled dragon combat-er," she told me. I paused.

"Knowing Stoick, I can believe that," I muttered under my breath, my arms crossed.

"We just want to take you somewhere where you can be yourself," Avechi said.

"Is the dragon master a chief of a village or something?" I asked.

"He's the chief of a village, tribe, and island, yes," Avechi said.

"And you claim that you and I are his daughters?" I recapped.

"Yes. You are next in line for the chief's chair," she said.

"Why me? Wouldn't it be you, since you're older?" I asked.

"He saw more potential and power in you your first three years than he ever did in me. I was first in line, but when I saw in you what he did, I didn't hesitate to back down," she said, "You were a born leader. Berk has made you forget that. They made you think you're an omega instead of an alpha."

"So, what, you want me to come back and be chief?" I asked, thoroughly confused.

"I just want you back. Please, Dad hasn't been the same in these last 15 years. He's been short with people, snapping at the village children, training until his bones break...it's as if he's preparing for battle, but we all know he doesn't have the guts to face you," I pleaded.

"Why wouldn't he have the guts to face me?" I asked.

"Because he blames himself for letting Berk take you, and he's scared you'll resent him for the same thing," Astrid says. I scoff lightly.

"Get him to come after me, and then maybe I'll consider coming back."

"What, why?!" Avechi asks.

"Because for all I know, you're just trying to do this behind his back. If he doesn't want me there, I'm not going," I said before turning and going back through the forest.
