Chapter 2

Heather's P.O.V.

I look after Hiccup sadly. He was always torn between running this village, raising his daughters and still trying to get over his wife's death. He was good at hiding it though. I look at the Hooligans to see them staring at me. "Step one foot out of line and I will be on you like a wild fire," I say coolly before nodding for them to follow me. "Now, in the morning, you will be expected to rise bright and early. Most of us are awake to greet the sun with an hour of meditation before starting our chores.  You are welcome to join, but you mustn't disturb the chief on his cliff until he comes down. That is the signal that others may join him when he's back up there, unless he says otherwise. Please remember: the less you annoy our chief, the more pleasant he'll be." I lead them to the visitor hut and leave them to find out who was going to sleep outside.

Next day

Hiccup's P.O.V.

I took a deep breath and filled my lungs with the crisp morning air, feeling the wind blow my hair gently. The sun slowly lit the cliff and trees around me, the early light warming my body. Shoot. The morning light. The search parties. "Damn," I sigh, slumping on my boulder. "I'm sorry, Sage. I'll be back and do double time tomorrow," I say to my wife's grave before climbing down and going to the village, pulling my mask over my face.

She was buried next to the boulder we sat on to meditate together. I go to the Great Hall and find the villages gathered, all turning toward me as I entered. I sought out Heather with my eyes and when I found her, she mad the hand-signal to tell me Tawny was in good hands. I nod before going to the front of the group.

"Alright-" Stoick cuts me off.

"I see you think our people are less important than your beauty sleep," he says accusingly. My arm tenses as my fists clenches.

"Yeah..." I say, tilting my head down as I tap my nail on the table in front of me, "I guess I could just not send any search parties." He bares his teeth in a snarl. "You seem to be forgetting the rule that all vikings must show a Chief respect when they are on his island. You're not on Berk anymore, Stoick. My people know this land, and if we were on Berk, then you could speak to me like that, more power to you. But we aren't so please refrain from using that tone again. Now, I want Thunder, Heather, Derek, Scarlet, Jasmine, and Trake to choose five Berkians each. Then, I want Thunder and Heather, Derek and Scarlet, and Jasmine and Trake to join their groups before searching the island. Heather and Thunder, I want your groups to take the south and west beaches. Derek and Scarlet, your groups check the north and east. Jasmine and Trake, take the center of the island and move out. Meet with the other two groups for a report and return to me. The Hooligans that are not chosen to search, meet by Leize and he will tell you were to report for chores. Understood?"

"Uh...question," Ruffnut says, raising her hand.

"Yes?" I sigh, rubbing my head.

"There are dragons around every corner right?" Tuffnut asks, mischief in his voice.

"Heather, Derek. Have the twins join your groups and don't let them near anything flammable," I order, not answering his question as I realize that they meant explosion. Heather and Derek groan, probably remembering the stories I've told them of the Nuts' wrath. "Alright! Move out!" I shout before walking for the door to let them get organized.

"Chief!" I paused as Thork came jogging up to me from the crowd of vikings. "Uh, the female is getting very annoyed and wondering when you're going to...uh..." he pulls out a piece of paper before reading. "'Get off his high dragon and get down here to speak with me, the stupid, over-zelled, son of a half-troll.' Yeah, that's what she said," he says nervously as he finishes.

"Ah, I forgot about her. Um...tell her I'll be right down. I have to do something," I say and he nods before I walk to my hut. I walk through the door to be greeted by a bongo being pounded to create an up-beat tempo. I walked up stairs before the pounding subsides to a light tapping. I open a door to see Avechi sitting on her bed, her eyes clouded as she played the instrument. There was a Terrible Terror nodding his head to the music as his eyes eased themselves closed. Avechi finally looks up and freezes as she sees me.

"H-hi, Dad," she says from the corner of her mouth. I walk over and sit next to her as her red hair falls over her face. Sage and I had her very soon after the village started to form.

"What have I told you about keeping your music in your room?" I ask as I brush her hair behind her ear.

"To not to," she says childishly.

"And yet, you still do...weird," I say.

"No one's going to want to listen. I'll just be playing for Lightning Strike anyway!" she says, making the black Terror growl.

"Speaking of, don't you think it's time you got a dragon that can carry you? You know, so you can join the People of the Wings?" I ask. When she was little that's all she ever talked about: how she was going to be the captain some day.

"No. I've got time..." she says, not meeting my eye.

"Avechi, you're 14. (A/N: Because who cares about logic?) You only have 3 years left to find a dragon, bond with it, and pass the assessment to become a Person of the Wings. What's holding you back?" I ask. She stayed silent, tapping her bongo with her nail. "I'll leave you here to think about it," I say before leaving her room and going out side. I walk to the dungeon, followed by Toothless, and meet Thork inside.

"I'm starting to wonder if you guys even have a chief!" a female voice snapped as we walked down the hall. I look at Thork questioningly and he sighs before nodding. It was the Hooligan that they'd caught.

"Well, then. What do you suppose they call me?" I ask as I come into view of the girls holding cell. I recognized her right off the bat. Astrid Hofferson...
