Chapter 45

"In... out...in...out...you need to strengthen your wings if you're ever going to learn to fly!" Hugin called out. You snapped your wings open and closed at her instruction. She was a vicious task mistress now that she had recovered her strength. She may not have aged while she was trapped in raven form, but that didn't make her any less formidable.

It had taken months for the two Valkyrie to recover properly. Now that they had, they were training you on how to be one of them. Right that moment, it involved practicing opening and closing your wings, lifting and lowering them, preparing them to be able to support your weight to be able to fly.

"Time for combat lessons~!" Munin called too cheerily as she approached.

You groaned. Just because Munin was the more cheery of the two Valkyrie didn't make her any less formidable or any less capable of kicking your ass. Repeatedly.

You started with the warmup drills. Apparently these were drills that every Valkyrie started learning from the second she could stand on her own two feet. Needless to say, you were far behind. The drills started with bare handed moves, slowly increasing in speed and complexity, then they added weapons, starting with daggers and ending with the Valkyries' famed dragonfang sword.

You were still learning the drills, so you moved through the movements more slowly than a true Valkyrie would, with Munin guiding you. You were out in one of the practice yards. You'd been out here doing the same thing every morning for weeks, ever since the two Valkyrie had recovered. Munin guided you through the drills while Hugin occasionally made corrections to your form or stances or just yelled at you to keep your wings up. It was grueling work, especially when you were unused to physical exercise. You were a healer for Norns' sake.

You knew that you couldn't complain, though. This was the price for coming back from the dead.

Only after you made it all the way through the drills, did the sparring matches begin. You took turns sparring against Hugin and Munin, improving your fighting skills.

You hadn't thought that you'd be able to keep up, but your body surprised you. You had truly come back as a Valkyrie. It had been difficult at first. It was still difficult, but your body was adapting, even after only a few weeks. You were getting stronger, your muscles improving, adapting to the grueling pace.

Ignoring the people watching had taken longer to get used to. You weren't used to a crowd while you worked, especially at something so new and foreign. You could handle people watching while you healed. That skill came naturally to you. This was so new and so out of your comfort zone that it had taken time to tune the people out. And quite a few times of being thrown on your ass, literally. You didn't have time or opportunity to think about who was watching. You had to keep your mind on your opponents.

You were slowly getting better day by day. Even if your bruises and ego told you otherwise.

Some days Loki came to watch on the sidelines with the twins. You seemed to land on your ass less on those days, though you knew that Hugin and Munin weren't actually taking it any easier on you. They at least were letting you keep some of your pride and keep your feet under you. The twins always clapped for you when you managed to get a hit in. They understood that mama was training hard so the other winged ladies could come home.

You still wondered when that would be. When you would prove to Hela that the realm had accepted you, Hugin, and Munin, and would allow the other Valkyrie in her care to finally come back to Asgard.

You would find out in time. In the meantime, all you could do was train and live your life as Allmother.

*

At least that was all you could do until you got the message from Midgard. You'd set up your phone to be able to send and receive messages from the team even in Asgard and stay charged for basically forever thanks to Stark tech. You had no idea how most of it worked, you were just glad it did.

The message was simple, but filled you with dread and PTSD all at the same time: Pepper is having the baby. We could really use a healer right about now.
