Chapter 4 : Dinner

Dinner was soon done and Patton called out, "kiddo! Dinner!"
Soon later, the small child came downstairs, a small, thin book in his hand as he read out loud, his finger under the words as he lisped and pronounced things slightly wrong, or syllable by syllable, holding out certain letters longer then others.
"Tooth Virge." Smiled Logan.
Virgil let out a sound of realisation and said, "tooth!"
Patton chuckled, "aright, no books at the table."
"Awe..." Virgil whined, closing the book and setting it to the side.
"Logan..." Patton said warningly.
His husband whines as well, placing his book down as well, albeit reluctantly and sat down.
Virgil sat as Patton set out the meal. Poor Virgil watched as Logan and Patton began to eat and tried to copy how they held their knife and fork, but failed miserably.
Logan jumped to his new sons aid and corrected the way he held the cold, silver utensils, helping him cut up the food and sat down, making the messy business less messy.
The only thing Patton was grateful for, was the fact he changed his mind on pasta.
"Log'n?" Asked Virgil.
"Yeah?"
Virgil pointed towards the book on the counter, "which book ith that?"
Logan smiled softly, "a boom for big boys, and once you are a big boy I'll let you read it, if you wish."
"Rea'y?!" Virgil's eyes lit up in obvious excitement.
"Of course."
Virgil squealed happily and grabbed the plastic cup with his hands and sipped his orange juice, "thank you Pa'on!"
"For what kiddo?"
"Food! It'th yummy!"
Patton couldn't help the small giggle that emitted for his throat and the warm smile that graced his lips, "I'm glad you think so!"
They are in comfortable silence for a while, until Virgil let out a quiet yawn, his eyes now dropping, his tiny arms stretching out and his tiny fingers spread apart, he rubbed his eyes.
"You tired Virgie?" Asked Patton, gently.
"Uh-huh." Virgil nodded, his hair bouncing gently.
Patton got up and picked him up, "come on, let's get you to bed."
Virgil wrapped his arms around Patton's neck, "night, night Log'n." He waved his small hand slightly, up and down.
Logan smiled and waved back, "goodnight Virgil."
Patton carries the infinitesimal child to his bedroom and helped him change into a fluffy, purple unicorn onesie and tucked him into bed.
"Pa'on?"
"Yeah kiddo?"
Virgil nervously played with the arm of Mr Cuddles, "can you read to me?"
And so Patton picked up a book and began to read, doing voices for each character and actions and watched as the child grew sleepy and his eyes closed falling asleep.
He tucked the child into bed but watched as Virgil's chest rose and dropped gently, he was so transfixed he didn't notice Logan walk in and take him out.
"He's our son..." Patton said, in disbelief, a smile etched into his face.
"I know."
