Chapter 8

<Undedited>

The pounding got louder and harder and soon the sound of the door breaking made me jump and bite back a shriek.

Holy shit.....

Before I could process anything, I felt something large and heavy fall on top of me. I slid down onto my back because of the sudden movement. My head snapped up and I saw Zeke's on top of me. Not a single part of me was out in the mid open. I stared up at him in confusion but he just stared at me with fear.

His usual smug look wasn't showing and instead it was replaced by a look I've never imagined he would wear. You'd think he would always be strong and cocky, but at this moment he looked as if he was about to shit himself.

I felt a pain in my chest. He was trying to protect me.

The footsteps got closer. My heart started beating erratically and I felt my eyes water up. I've never realized what it would feel like if I was on the verge of death, but now I know. I felt nauseous and as scared as hell.

My glasses began to fog up as I stared up at Zeke. His eyes were glossy and a tear escaped from his eye. He slowly reached up and gently took my glasses off of my face and laid them down next to my head. He leaned forward and kissed my cheek with his soft lips.

They lingered there for a few seconds. His lips felt soft against my skin. It made my whole face feel as if it was on fire. I wouldn't be surprised if I was blushing at the moment. I mean what do you expect? I've never got kissed on the cheek by a guy before. It felt so foreign but good at the same time.

When he pulled away we stared at me with an expression I couldn't decipher. He rubbed his thumb over the tear that was rolling down my cheek. When the footsteps were right by the desk, he buried his face into my neck and put all his weight on me.

I could feel him shaking on top of me and his heart beat was beating rapidly, faster than my own. The footsteps halted, not far from us. Zeke turned his head so that he was able to see the opening of the desk. My breath got caught in my throat when I saw a gun pointing straight at Zeke.

I couldn't see Zeke's face, but I could imagine what it looked like.

"Well, well, well. Look who we have here." the guy's voice sent chills down my spine.  "Zeke Anderson."

Okay, now I'm confused. Who the hell is this guy and how does he know Zeke?

"Kris....." Zeke gritted out. "I didn't expect to see you here." Zeke's voice was shaking. No doubt that it was because of the gun pointing straight at him.

"Who've you got there?" he asked. Zeke tried shielding me so that Kris wouldn't be able to see me. "Is she that ugly?" He chuckled darkly.

Zeke launched himself at the man. A loud gunshot echoed throughout this room. I let out a shriek, expecting to see Zeke on the floor with blood pooling around his chest, but instead I saw him pinning Kris against the wall. I looked down at the floor and saw the gun laying on the linoleum floor.

Knowing the Kris was going to go for it again, I quickly picked up the gun. Since I don't know how to shoot with good aim and Zeke was in the way, I can't shoot the guy because I'll most likely kill Zeke instead. Zeke threw a punch at Kris' face.

I finally got a view of the man. He was the same height as Zeke, about 5'11", he has brown shaggy hair, sharp jaw line, and a pointy nose. He was wearing a black leather jacket similar to Zeke's, a navy blue tee, and black jeans. Blood dribbled down from his nose as Zeke threw another blow to his jaw. I would go break up the fight, but that guy deserves to die. Him and whoever he's here with killed a lot of people.

Kris grabbed Zeke by the neck and kicked him in the groin. Zeke toppled over and Kris climbed on top of him and started punching him in the face. I cringed as I saw blood ooze out of the cuts all over his face. But then my eyes widened when I saw a big pool of blood gathering around his shoulder. That's when it hit me.

He got shot on the shoulder. Zeke winced in pain. He got a couple more punches to the guy's face before he was completely pinned down.

Adrenaline surged through my body and I didn't the only thing I could think of. I raised the gun that was in my hand and pulled the trigger. I quickly closed my eyes, afraid that I shot Zeke instead. After a few seconds of complete silence, I finally opened one of my eyes.

Kris was laying on his side, dead. Blood was pouring out from his chest. My eyes wandered over to Zeke who was trying to sit up. I ran over to him so that I could inspect his wounds. His face was all bloody. I glanced down at his shoulder where he got shot. He was bleeding profusely.

"Oh God." I muttered under my breath. I quickly got up to grab the first aid kit that laid next to the desk. I opened it up and poured everything out of it. I grabbed a ton of cotton balls and the alcohol.

Zeke stared at me as I was frantically trying to find the supplies to clean his wound. He quickly grabbed my wrist. "Hey......" I froze and looked at him. "I'm going to be alright." he assured me.

"No you're not. You got shot. Now take off your shirt so I can clean your wound." He did what he was told. He slid his leather jacket off and then pulled his shirt over his head. I stared at him with wide eyes. He was ripped. He had six pack and his arms looked like golden apples.

"Are you going to clean me up or are you going to drool over my body." he asked with a smug look.

I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks heated up. "Why would I stare at you?"

"Because you think I'm hot and sexy." he stated with a smirk.

"I do not." I scowled.

"Do too."

"Do not."

"Do too."

"Do not."

"Do not."

"Do too." The words flew out of my mouth before I could even think.

"HA! I got you!" He grinned. "Now come fix this cut. It hurts like hell." he winced.

I scooted closer and tried to clean up the blood, but it kept coming. "I can't get the blood to stop. I need to get cloth and tie it around your arm so that it can create enough pressure to make it stop."

I looked through the pile of first aid supplies, but didn't find any of that bandage wrap stuff. So I picked up his shirt, but the fabric was too thin. My hand immediately went up to my shirt. I felt the fabric. It was cotton and thick.

I quickly took of my hoodie and tossed it across the room. I tugged my shirt off and scooted closer to him. I grabbed the shirt and wrapped it around his shoulder. For some reason there was ducktape in the first aid kit so I used it as well for it to stay.

I leaned back on the souls of my feet. "Is that better?" I asked him. He nodded. I rose my eyebrows when I realized that he was staring at me. Not my face, but my body. I glanced down and quickly covered myself, blushing. "Stop it."

I couldn't help but notice the slight dust of pink on his cheeks. I made him blush! "Sorry." he muttered.

Another gunshot and cries came from out in the hallway. I quickly stood up and helped him up. "We should probably get out of here and hide somewhere else. The other's might find us." He nodded in agreement. He held out his shirt towards me.

"Put this on." he ordered me. I didn't hesitate to grab the shirt out of his hold and cover my body with it. To be honest, I felt very uncomfortable not wearing it. Especially not in front of the guy who would most likely make fun of my body because he's most likely seen bodies that are more curvy and better looking. He probably wanted me to cover up because he was embarrassed to be seen with me.

I sniffed into the shirt and realized that it smelled like Zeke. The smell was relaxing and it calmed me down.

I glanced down at the man who I shot a few minutes ago. It finally occurred to me that I killed someone. Oh God. I leaned back against the desk as I let out a strangled cry. Zeke snapped his head towards be and his expression morphed into a worried one.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"I.....I-I did that." I cried as I pointed towards the blood that pooled around Kris' dead body. Zeke's eyes wandered over to Kris before meeting mine. More tears rolled down my cheeks. "I killed someone."

Zeke cupped my cheeks with his large hands. "Shhhhh." he cooed. "It's okay. You saved my life. I could've died." He assured me.

He leaned forward and wrapped his arms around my small frame. "Thank you for helping me." he whispered into my hair. I found my warms wrapping around his waist. I could feel his bare skin against my arms. Heat radiated from his body, warming me up.

"You're welcome." I mumbled against his chest. I could feel the outlines of his muscles against the pads of my fingers. I shivered at the feeling he sent me.

This can't be right. I've never had this feeling before.

When we pulled away, he flashed me a genuine smile. One that showed his pearly white teeth. My heart started beating a little faster and my stomach did flips. "It's okay." he told me.

"We should probably go find a new place to stay." I suggested as he took a coupled steps back away from me.

"Yeah you're probably right."

We both walked over to the door and poked our heads out to see if anyone was nearby. The hallway was empty, so we quickly ran out and down the hallway to find another place for us to hide.
