#14: "The Woman Responds to the Shepherd"

THE WOMAN RESPONDS TO THE SHEPHERD

(based on "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love" by Christopher Marlowe.)

Oh love, thou have my heart;
I shall be blessed to come and live with thee.
The lands and seas shall never be apart.
And I shall be chuffed to odyssey the marvelous world with thee.

Oh love, I must thank thee.
For all the blazing stars thou have shined for me.
I know it's thy true love that made thou do.
Even these lovely creatures can tell thy heart's music plays for me.

Oh love, I must thank thee.
For thy beds of roses and fragrant posies,
This cap of flowers and kirtle from thee,
Covered with Myrtle leaves that emblematize the art of thy love.

I do appreciate
This beautiful gown thou created for me,
From the finest wools of thy treasured Lambs,
And these golden flat-lined slippers like treasures I have earned from thee.

I do appreciate
This fine belt of straw and these fresh Ivy buds,
With such sweet Coral clasps and Amber studs.
I thank thee for making my sky bright, my sea clear and my lands clean.

Oh love, thou have my heart.
I will be blissful to let thou take my hand.
Lavishing oaths is not such a good start,
But let's promise that we will always make sure the sun shines on us.

Author's Note:

Okay. This poem is a reply to a beautiful poem of an excellent poet, Christopher Marlowe. We were asked to do this in school, as an assignment, when we discussed the original poem. We were to write a response poem, in the point of view of the woman that the shepherd is proposing to. =)

It was difficult to act like a woman, so I just tried what I can. HAHAHAHAHA.

The original poem is really beautiful and touching. I am glad that we discussed it, and were even asked to make our own response poem about it. :D

Have a great day, full of love! ^_^
