Chapter Eight

Kyle tosses a style magazine across the table. I glance over the page and smile at the floral arrangement displayed on the table. With a smile, I rip the page from the magazine and place it in the inspirational pile for the florist.

Angel has given me a collection of magazines to squiz though to grasp an idea of what floral arrangements we want at the engagement and wedding. So far, it's just been Kyle and I flicking through magazines since he's got today off.

It's nice though, spending time with Kyle. I also trust his opinion with styling flowers because he's amazing with fashion.

"That was a great find, thank you so much." I smile.

"You do realise I would be the perfect bridesmaid." He grins. "And I would look fabulous too."

"Oh, Kyle." I laugh. "I can't tell if you're joking or not."

"Ava baby, I'd do anything for you." He smiles.

"Thank you, Kyle." I grin. "I'm going to need your support to get through this whole wedding thing. You know me, I stress about everything."

"Don't worry, Ava, everything will be perfect, we'll help you through it."

I take a deep breath and nod my head. "I'll try to worry less."

We both laugh because it won't happen.

The doorbell suddenly rings and I'm up on my feet charging towards the door. As soon as I open it,  London rushes into the house screaming her head off.  Kyle says something before turning my attention to Tori.

"Thank you for picking her up! I tried to change the service time for my car, but it was either today or waiting another couple of weeks." I sigh. "I'm no expert, but something sounded bad in it."

"It's perfectly fine, I don't mind picking her up. We went to the park, had a snack before coming here."

"Aw, that sounds wonderful. London loves going to park. She's been asking about the water park, but it's getting too cold for that."

"It sure is." She nods. "Ava?"

"Yes? Is there something wrong?"

Tori looks to the ground, then to me. With a frown, I  lean against the front door. I feel anxious because of the long pause – something must really be wrong.

"I was hoping to re-discus the housing arrangements for London. I want to have London every second week instead of this arrangement. I hardly see her, and I miss her."

"Oh." I nibble on my lower lip. "You'd have to talk with Blake, it's not my decision to make. I'd suggest shooting him a message or something? Maybe you two could speak on the weekend."

Tori slowly nods . "Okay, thank you."

"Well then, goodbye." I awkwardly close the door.

I wander into the living room. Kyle has London upside down by the ankles and in the air. He jiggles her, then gently lays her on the ground.

"Again, again, again!" she cheers.

"And where's my hug?" I race around the table and swoop her off the ground.

London throws her arms around my neck and sloppily kisses my cheek.

"How was your day at daycare?"

London begins her jumbled story about her day. She upends her bag and shows me the wonderful pictures she's made before insisting they go on the fridge.

Once she's finished, I take a seat at the dining table with London on Kyle's lap. He tries to flip through the magazine, but London insists on turning the pages. Kyle laughs but lets her do it.

"Which flowers should we have at the party?" I ask London as I spread the collection of images in front of her.

"That one." She points to a pink and white arrangement in a clear, crackled glass vase.

"You know what, I think it's perfect!" I smile.

When Blake arrives home, a stumbling, drunk Ben is following behind. Ben almost falls to the ground, so Blake wraps his arm around his waist to steady his balance. Blake throws him over his shoulder and then smiles at me.

"Wow, how come he's drunk?"

"Happy Hour at the University bar. I had to pick him up because he drank too many cocktails."

"Where Axel?"

"Probably working, I'm not too sure."

"Just make sure he doesn't vomit on the carpet otherwise I'll be kicking ass."

Blake walks down the hallway and I faintly hear them talking. After a few minutes, he returns to the room and grabs London from Kyle's lap. He kisses her cheek, then places her on the ground. She runs into the kitchen and shows Blake her artwork.

When she's finished, London returns to Kyle's lap and helps him turn the pages.

Blake  wraps his arms around my waist. He's dirty from work and slightly stinky, but I squeeze his body into a tight hug.

"I missed you."

I lean up and press my lips against his.

"I love you."

"Ew, gross, get a room," Kyle shouts out.

"Get out of my house then." Blake laughs.

Kyle teasingly huffs, then returns  to the magazine. As I peek over, I see wedding dresses accompanied by bridesmaid and flower girls. I tug on Blake's arm and lead him towards the bedroom.

Blake presses me against the door and his lips capture mine. I wrap my arms around his neck and squeeze his body closer to mine.

He takes a step back and smiles.

"Kyle has London, so we could take a shower together. Remember those? We used to do it a lot."

"What about dinner?"

"I promised to make dinner tonight, so come on." He tugs me to the bathroom.

"Hang on." I tug my hand back.

"Is there something wrong?"

"Before I forget, Tori mentioned wanting to re-discuss London's housing arrangements. She wants her every second week."

"What?" Blake growls. "That's going against everything we discussed."

I wrap my arm around Blake's waist and rest my head on his chest.

"Everything will be okay." I'll be hopeful for our family.

Blake kisses my forehead and then continues pulling me to the bathroom.

"Now you have to take a shower with me."

He strips out of his work clothing and steps into the shower. I follow and adjust the taps, so it isn't too hot.

He grabs the shampoo while I wet my hair. Blake washes the soap through, stopping to give gently rub my scalp. I lean against his shoulder and sigh with content. I've missed being pampered.

"Hm, this is perfect."

After the shower, I find a comfortable pair of pyjamas and leaving the room. Kyle and London are sitting at the table – he's flicking through magazines while she's colouring in a picture of a unicorn.

"I'll check on Ben, make sure he's still alive."

Blake shuffles into the kitchen while I wander down the hallway. When I get to the end room, I slowly peek into the room.

This should have been Ivan's room but now it's Ben's. I kind of like Ben living in here, it makes the room seem different. Even though we don't get along, he's good for Blake.

I flick the light on, but Ben is sprawled across the bed passed out. I wander deeper into the room and check to make sure he's still breathing. I faintly hear breath being sucked in and out.

"Great, you're still alive." I pat his back.

Ben groans but doesn't wake up.

I flick the light off and wander to the lounge room. Blake has an assortment of everything placed on the kitchen counter. Meat, vegetables and different pots and pans.

"I bags not having to wash this up." I laugh.

"I'm not doing it either." Kyle pouts.

"Ben can do the dishes in the morning since it's his turn to cook tonight."

"Thank goodness." I sigh with relief.

Blake cooks and I sit by the bench and watch him work his magic. He chops food, chucks it in a pan and infuses flavour. Different flavours waft through the air making my stomach grumble with hunger.

I miss the simple moments like this where it's just Blake enjoying himself. I hope that even when we're married, it'll still be like this. Carefree and simple.
