It had been a week since the incident and with every passing day, Sarah found, something changed. Be it the loudness her phone, her sight in the night or her heightened sense of smell. Sarah was sure, it had something to do with the incident, with the wound inflicted on her by this guy. If it weren't for the lack of bloodlust, she would have thought, he had somehow turned her into a vampire too.

Right now, she laid awake in her bed. The only light came from the moon shining through the window and yet, Sarah saw almost perfectly. Sure, the colors were muted and faded, but the silhouettes were clear to her like they would have been in daylight. It made her uncomfortable, but she didn't tell anyone. While she knew they wouldn't just send her to the next asylum, she didn't want to risk it. Sarah dreaded the moment someone found out.

She turned to her side and tried to close her eyes. They just fluttered open. "Of course", she sighed and buried her face in the pillow. Even her brother slept soundly as evidenced by the silence. Sarah didn't have a clue as to how late it was as she hadn't looked at her phone. It was night, this was all she knew.

The best thing to do would be telling her family about this. Despite knowing they wouldn't do anything bad, Sarah still feared it. She didn't want to dwell on it.

In this moment, it was like the heavens heard the prayer, because the sound of shattered glass echoed through the silence. Sarah jerked up. Her instinct told her to investigate immediately. Maybe the guy had broken into the house and finish the job. This would get her some answers she longed for. But her mind told her to stay where she was. So, she listened to the it.

Someone ran past her room and soon thundered down the stairs. Sarah stood up and walked to her door. However, she didn't open it. Instead she put her ear on the wood and heard a familiar yet muffled voice bellowing. "Who are you? What are you doing in this house?!" A bad feeling burrowed in her stomach when she heard another noise. This time it sounded like crashing wood. Sarah bit her lip and thought about what she should do now.

"Puny human. You really think I can be defeated by you? My powers exceed those of yours by miles", a different voice yelled. Then a cry of agony reverberated through the house. There was someone downstairs who pummeled Elijah. Sarah felt conflicted. It would be best for her own survival to stay here. Yet, she couldn't just leave her brother to get beaten to death. Not to mention that this guy saw himself above a human. It clicked in her head. This intruder had to be a supernatural being, like the one who had attacked her a week ago.

Another scream boomed through the house. Without hesitation Sarah slammed the door open and dashed down the stairs, almost flying over them. She noticed the metallic scent when she reached the scene. It sent a shiver down her spine.

A flashlight illuminated a portion of the room. Sarah saw the destroyed dinner table. Her brother laid on the debris, trying to push himself up. "Elijah", she cried and rushed over to him. She paid no attention to the stranger. The smell of blood intensified. She felt how saliva built up in her mouth. Something inside her pushed forward a strange and unfamiliar urge to the forefront of her mind. Sarah shook her head, trying to get rid of it. Another scent entered the scene. It was both familiar yet unknown for Sarah.

Human flesh.

"Sarah?" This snapped her back. She wiped her mouth with the sleeves of her shirt. This wasn't the right moment to think about how delicious human flesh would taste. In fact, there was no moment in which this would ever be right. But it stung in her nose either way. She pushed it back and focused on this situation.

Glancing over shoulder, Sarah acknowledged the guy standing there, watching the scene with a smile. Elijah meanwhile propped himself into a sitting position. "Sarah! What are you doing here", he whisper-yelled. His brows knitted until there were prominent lines between them. "You have to leave!" Indignation was the first thing she felt when he said those words. It stayed for a few seconds until it was replaced by worry. "Not in a million years. I'm helping you", she replied. Elijah grunted and opened his mouth to say something. Before he could do so however, someone else did.

"Aw, sweet. I always love watching lovers being concerned for each other", the man said. He took a step forward. Elijah inched in the towards him. He know knelt in front of her. The man smiled in amusement while Sarah now noticed the wound on the back of Elijah's head. It reminded Sarah of a familiar situation which took place about two years ago. The only difference here was the threat of death hanging over the two of them.

The guy's emerald orbs pierced through her being. She gulped. Those slitted pupils were the same as the one who had attacked her.

"That doesn't mean I will go easy on you though", he continued. In a split second, he dashed forward. The next thing Sarah noticed was the ceiling. She scrambled up into a sitting position and her eyes widened when she saw it.

There was a huge gash, stretching from Elijah's wrist up to his shoulder. It spilled blood like nobody's business. Sarah stared at it with wide eyes. The smell of blood made her drool and disgusted her at the same time. It also felt intoxicating, like she had drunken alcohol or taken some illicit drugs. Her hands twitched as she crawled forward. Surely it wouldn't be all that bad to take a bite, right? It was just something small. It wouldn't hurt anyone. Her brother was already on the verge of unconsciousness.

Once Sarah realized she thought about eating her brother she snapped out of her trance-like state. She noticed how close she had gotten to him. The man wasn't in sight, but a feeling told Sarah he wasn't too far away. "Sarah, careful", Elijah mumbled. A week ago it would have sounded incoherent.

But she had no time to think about it, because suddenly she was thrown across the room. A pain resonated through her head as it hit the wall. Next thing she knew, the man had a good grip in her throat, effectively blocking her windpipe. Due to him being taller, her feet hovered a few inches above the floor. She opened her eyes and brought her hands up, locking them on his wrist. Even though Sarah expected him to grin at her like the Cheshire cat, he didn't.

Instead he frowned. His pupils were dilated, making them seem more human-like. He took a few sniffs, reminding Sarah more of a dog than a vampire. "Something about you differs from him. You have a weird smell."

Sarah couldn't think about those words as her thoughts clouded over. She gasped for air and dug her nails into his skin. It was to no effect since they had been shortened. In an attempt to look threatening, she bared her teeth and glowered at him. If she wanted to survive, she had to find a solution to it now as her surroundings began to blur and melt into each other. It took all of her strength to keep her eyes open. "I think it would be best if I kill you now."

Her hands wandered to his forearm. She pressed her hands together. Then she heard something snap.

The grip around her neck vanished and she slid down the wall. At the same time a scream of pain resounded through the room. She heaved and looked at the man in front of her. His left forearm was twisted in an unnatural angle. He stared at his arm, waiting for something to happen. Since Sarah's thoughts traveled still at a slow pace, she didn't understand what it was. His gaze snapped over to her. There were emotions in his eyes which Sarah couldn't identify.

"YOU", he bellowed. Sarah twitched as he came closer again. "You should not exist!" The spite and hate in his voice sent a shiver down her spine. She thought about what he meant with this, but her thoughts hit a roadblock. Not to mention, they still blurred together like the ingredients in a smoothie mixer.

Before she knew it, her head hit the wall again and again. The man had grabbed her head with his still intact arm and slammed it into the wall. Sarah knew out of instinct, if he continued, her brain and skull would turn to mush like a week-old avocado. She'd be dead.

All of the sudden, he stopped. Sarah's vision was hazy at best as she felt blood running down her scalp. She blinked a couple of times and tried to clear her sight. The man now stood right next to her brother who was already unconscious, if not on the verge of death. In this moment, her thoughts sobered up. She realized what the man was going to do. So, to prevent it from happening, she pushed herself up or at least she tried to. Sarah reached for Elijah but couldn't find the strength to even crawl towards them.

No sound left her lips as she saw the man decapitating her brother in one swift motion. Her heart stopped for a moment as she stared at the carnage in front of her with wide eyes.

"No", she whispered. A pang of pain exploded inside her chest, burning underneath her skin. She didn't realize the amount of energy forming and building up around her. Instead she stared at the one responsible for this. Her brows furrowed and her eyes narrowed as she gritted her teeth. He took a step back. Some words left his lips, but they were drowned in the thrumming of Sarah's blood coursing through her veins.

Enraged, she jumped up, her injuries forgotten. Everything blurred together as she mindlessly charged at the guy.

"SARAH", it rang through the house and in her ears. Said girl turned and saw another bunch of intruders. She didn't ask herself how they knew her name, nor did she care that the voice sounded familiar. Those intruders killed her brother and deserved to die. All humans should die, as should other beings. Not one was worthy of life.

Once again the voice called for her. Cerulean eyes shone with tears. Sarah suddenly felt a strange sensation on her cheeks. "I'm sorry", the voice whispered, "I should have stayed." With every passing second, the voice sounded more and more familiar. Her vision blurred again. Something wet ran down her face. The sympathetic smile on the person's face snapped her back. "M-Mom?"
