Start of Finals
Well, it may feel like I lost everything this last month of school, but I wasn't giving up. I spent the whole last week studying as hard as I could. Dad and the band helped whenever they could, which I really appreciated. It sucked I didn't have as much time for music, but I knew if I did well on finals I had a whole summer to focus on my music.
It was now the first day of finals. I took two classes today, and two tomorrow.
"Ready?" Dad asked as I ate my breakfast, which was just a bowl of Cheerios. I nodded my head as I finished the bowl.
"Nervous, but ready" I said. I placed my bowl in the sink and headed towards the door, grabbing my bag on the way out.
"That's my boy. Good luck" dad called out as I stepped outside. I grabbed my new skateboard that was leaning against the side of the house and started towards the sidewalk. I jumped onto my board and took off towards school.
Since I got to school early, I figured I'd use this time for some last minute studying. I knew I wasn't the only one with this idea as the library was packed. I found a quiet spot in the back corner and took a seat at the table. I pulled out my biology notes and made sure I was ready for my first final. It wasn't going to be easy, but I knew I could pass if I focused.
The bell rang, letting me know it was time to head to class. I packed away my notes and hurried out of the library. I made sure to stop by my locker first to lock away my skateboard. After losing the last one, I wanted to make sure this one was safe. I hurried down to biology and took my seat. I watched the room quickly fill up with all my classmates. Some looked nervous, others looked confident. Some even looked like they didn't care if they passed or not. I know I care, so I can't let them distract me.
Mr. Brown went over the final with us before passing it out. He made sure to collect everyone's phones first.
"Sorry sir, you can check my pockets and bag, but I don't have mine. It broke" I admitted when he got to my desk. He just nodded and kept walking. I guess after hearing what I've been through, it was believable.
I looked down at my final once Mr. Brown said we could start. 50 questions, this was going to take a while. I took my time, skipping over the questions I was unsure of to get back to later. The write in questions were harder than the multiple choice, but taking my time and focusing helped keep me calm as I worked. After all, I didn't need the best grade, just a passing one.
It took almost the whole two hours I had to finish. I turned in my final and sat back at my seat. When I looked at the clock, I saw I only had about five minutes before class was over. Feeling tired after all that work, I laid my head on my desk and closed my eyes. I didn't fall asleep, I just wanted to rest before my next class.
I went to Mr. Brown's desk once the bell rang. Most of the class had already rushed out.
"I just want to say thank you. I've had a hard semester and you've been supportive" I said. Mr. Brown stood up and shook my hand with a smile.
"It was a pleasure having you in class Mr. Smith. Best of luck to you". He said. I thanked him again before leaving his classroom for the last time. I had half an hour before my next class, so I went back to the library for more studying.
Once again, the library was crowded. Some kids were here to study, others to just hang out. I saw Daisy standing with David and some other kids by the entrance. I kept my head low as I rushed past them, trying to avoid trouble. I went back to the table I used this morning and pulled out my history notes. I loved this class and did well on the classwork, so I felt confident about this one.
As I looked over my notes, I noticed someone walk over. I looked up to see Daisy standing over me.
"So how was your first final?" She asked. I put my notes away and stood up.
"Fuck off" I mumbled as I put my bag on my shoulders.
"Parker, what's wrong?" She asked. She tried putting a hand on my shoulder but I swatted her away.
"Your the problem! You can't be my best friend one minute and my enemy the next just to look cool in front of your boyfriend or friends. It's not okay" I started walking away. I didn't need her in my life anymore if she was going to treat me like shit.
"Parker I..." I left the library before she could say any more.
I looked at one of the clocks and saw I still had ten minutes. I decided to go out into the courtyard for some air. It was nice out, and a couple other students were hanging out. I sat on the grass against a tree and closed my eyes, using this time to relax. I needed a clear mind if I wanted to do well, so I had to get the thoughts of Daisy out.
The bell rang, so I knew it was time to get up. I grabbed my bag and hurried off to history. I took my seat and listened to Mrs. Hanson go over the final before handing it to us. Just like with biology, the multiple choice questions were easy. The fill in the blanks and the short essay questions weren't too bad as well. I still made sure to take my time and make sure I was thinking before answering.
I finished up my final just as the bell rang. That marks the end of the first day of finals. Just two more tomorrow. I walked up to Mrs. Hanson's desk to hand in my work.
"Thanks for giving us such a good class miss" I said before leaving.
"Good luck Parker" she said. I headed out the door and to my locker.
I grabbed my skateboard from my locker before heading outside. Students flooded out of the school, excited to get out of here. I saw David and Cody standing by some of the bushes by the building. As tempting as it was to start trouble with them, I decided to keep walking. I jumped onto my skateboard and took off towards the studio.
The ride on my new board was nice. Between the nice weather and the relief of getting some finals done, I was feeling good. Hopefully this good feeling stays, or at least until I have to do tomorrow's finals. For now, I wasn't going to think about it.
I skated up to the studio and jumped off my board, picking it up before walking inside.
"Guys, I'm here" I called out as I walked into the lounge. I threw myself down onto the couch, throwing my bag and board down onto the floor.
"You're out early" Zach said as he walked into the room.
"Finals are half days" I mumbled as I buried my head into the pillow.
"That bad?" He asked.
"No, I think it went okay. Just took all my energy" I admitted. I turned my body so I was now facing the ceiling.
"So no energy for drumming?" Barry asked as the others joined us in the room.
"Nah, maybe tomorrow" I yawned.
"Let him relax boys" Dad said.
"Yeah, we should probably get back to work. We only have a week until we have to leave for tour" Eric said. They all left the room, leaving to me chill on my own.
I ended up taking a nap on the couch. When I woke up, I took a moment to get up. I didn't think I napped that long until dad walked back into the room.
"Good, your up. Let's go home" he said. I groaned as I was hoping to get some practice in.
"We have to?" I asked.
"Come on, we'll be back tomorrow" he said. I picked up my bag and board and followed him out. We said goodbye to the others before heading into the parking lot.
"Want to do something? You can drive us home" dad tossed me the keys before getting into the passenger seat. I put my things into the back seat before getting into the driver seat.
"Thanks" I said as I started the car. Dad just shrugged.
"You don't get to do it often, so I figured this was a good chance" he said. He turned the radio on and leaned back as I drove us home.
When we pulled into our driveway I noticed a look on dad's face.
"Something wrong?" I asked as I turned off the car.
"There's a note on the front door" he mumbled as he stepped out of the car. I grabbed my things from the backseat before following him. "It's for you" he said as I joined him by the door. He handed me the note before stepping inside.
I placed my bag and board down in the living room before checking the note. I sat down at the dining table as I read it.
"Parker,
I tried reaching out to through text, but couldn't, so I decided to drop this off. I just want to meet up with you and make things right. Talk to me at school tomorrow if your interested
-Daisy"
I tore up the note and threw it away.
"What was it?" Dad asked.
"Nothing, just some spam mail" I lied as I didn't want dad involved.
After dinner I decided to get some sleep. I wanted to be well rested for tomorrow. German finals were going to be stressful, but I tried not to worry as I could still graduate without passing that once class. I felt my confidence going away when I realized I didn't study after school. Maybe if I get to school early again tomorrow I can squeeze some in. I did my best to clear my mind so I could get some sleep.
