Chapter 15

Everyone welcomed him back, glad to see he was able to recover well.

"If you need anything, just ask."

"Yeah, you cracked a real big case too! You're kind a celebrity amongst police officers now."

"You're saying you and not we..."

They exchanged looks before quickly walking away. Everyone that came to talk to him always used "you" and not "we". And everytime he called them out, they just left. Were they hiding something from him? He left his seat, knocking on Haknyeon's door.

"Come in."

"Hak-"

The officer looked at him, wondering why he stopped. Hyunjoon closed the door, everyone minding their business.

"Where's Haknyeon?" he demanded.

The officers looked away. Would no one give him an answer?

"Hyunjoon... He... Haknyeon quit." one finally spoke, the others matching her tone.

"What? Why? He didn't do anything wrong!"

"We don't know. We just came in like usual and he was leaving with his things. We knew we couldn't stop him, only you could but you were still recovering..."

As expected, Hyunjoon left. How could he just leave without telling him? How could he just leave him behind?

Haknyeon locked his door, double checking that he had everything.

"Oh, going out?"

"Hey, Taesob. Yeah, for groceries."

Taesob decided to join him, planning on going out anyway.

"So, are you really not going back to the force? I'm just a regular guy but I think you were a pretty good one, amnesia or not." said Taesob

"It's not that I think I'm lacking in the skills, I don't think my emotions will ever be stable like they used to. Not if I'm around Hyunjoon. This is why I didn't want to have fun, to make friends... I'd feel things and then..."

Taesob didn't think he was purposefully holding back.

"And my ultimate goal was to get Bakmoon shut down. Now that I've done it, could I really act like a regular police officer? Kids get scared of me..." muttered Haknyeon, a child walking past shying away. "So quitting was the best solution. Plus being home more will help Kevin a lot until he finds a new place."

"Well, if that's the answer you came to and you didn't just quit out of guilt... then it's settled I guess."

Haknyeon laughed a little, shaking his head.

"Haknyeon!"

They turned, an out of breath Hyunjoon walking over to them. Taesob looked to Haknyeon who seemed calm. Was he really after what he just told him?

"Why... Wh..."

Haknyeon caught him, wondering if he ran from the station. He didn't see a police car anywhere nearby. He seriously took public transportation rather than a car? He must not be in his right mind.

"Looks like shopping will have to wait." Taesob stated, helping him take Hyunjoon upstairs.

Haknyeon silently watched over Hyunjoon, wondering what could've been so important. So important that he didn't think to take a car. Hyunjoon finally awoke, taking in his surroundings.

"How are you feeling? Need water?"

"Yes please."

Haknyeon left then came back with a cup of cold water. Hyunjoon drank it all in one go.

"So, what did you need to tell me that you couldn't call or text?"

Oh. He forgot he could do that. He shook his head, seeing he was already here now.

"Why did you quit? Who forced you?!"

"No one. It was the most logical answer for me. Most of my reason for being there was for Bakmoon. I don't think I could just be a regular officer... I can't even remember the last time I went out on patrol with the others, let people get used to me..."

"That's it? Here I thought it was something serious. Didn't you tell me yourself? Everyone has doubts. If you can give reasonable answers to why, what, who and how, then go and grab it. You still have your answers, don't you?"

Haknyeon sighed, shaking his head.

"Then... make new ones."

New ones? Hyunjoon gave him a smile, sending his heart aflutter. He didn't think of that.

"I'll think about it. Plus I'd have to go through some training again because I left." smiled Haknyeon.

"I'll be waiting then. And it's not just me. Everyone else misses you too. It feels weird at the precinct without that presence of yours."

He wasn't sure if that was a compliment or not.

"Oi, Hak! Are we still going shopping or not?!" shouted Taesob.

"Would you-"

"Yes! I've dreamed of this day!" exclaimed Hyunjoon, pulling Haknyeon to his feet.

Maybe it'd be okay to feel things. It'd just boost his desire to protect them more, right? Haknyeon smiled softly, holding his hand back.

"Please tell me I'm not going to be third wheeling hard. If I have to say get a room once I'm out." huffed Taesob.

"I promise. But I don't think he can." said Haknyeon, making Hyunjoon pout.

"Can too!"

"Now you sound like a child."

Hyunjoon shrunk back, feeling small under Haknyeon's gaze. Taesob exhaled, glad to see Haknyeon shining brighter than ever.
