Chapter XIX: Alone Together

AUTHOR'S NOTE:I already know there is an official canon episode under this title, and I know I already gave 90% of you PTSD for the title alone, but don't worry, this story isn't a Stevonnie ship...for now, we'll just see how it plays out. Anyway, I just chose it because I felt it fit well.

Robert eventually made it to the barn. It wasn't too difficult to see, due to the full moon being out. The light was on inside the barn, and Peridot stood alone, welding some sort of contraption. "Hey, Miss Peridot, Where is Lapis?" he asked.

She turned around, removing her face shield. "She's on the roof, and it's not 'Miss' Peridot, just Peridot."She answered. "And why do you wish to know?" Robert pulled out the note and showed it to her. "I see, and can you do me a favor?" she asked. Robert nodded. "When you leave, can you give this to Amethyst?" she gave him an envelope that had an official stamp and an address, and it appeared to be rather full. "Oh, and please don't open it, it's rather confidential." She said. Robert put it in his bag and began to formulate a plan on how to get up there. At first, he thought about going through Peridot's stuff to see if he could find a jet pack or rocket boots, but he knew that was rude and probably couldn't control it anyway. He eventually figured out he could take the ladder up to the truck bed, and move it up to get to the roof.

When he got there, He walked carefully to Lapis, as he didn't want to fall off or make a fool of himself. He caught an eyeful of her outfit, which was stunning. She wore a Mr. Universe T-shirt and a jean-skirt, both of which fit her perfectly. (Mini art challenge: draw her, or any other female from Steven Universe in this outfit. Bonus points if you include Steven or Greg with her.)

The moonlight only made it better. She looked at him delightfully. "You claimed you wanted to hear my song?" Robert asked. "You know the one, don't play dumb." She said as she got out her phone and had her recording application open. "I-I-I can't sing..." he stammered. "Oh, don't be a baby! Sing for me!" She demanded. Robert knew there was no way out of it, and he also didn't want to appear weak or superficial. "Fine, but just for you, and it's incomplete, so don't get mad at me if it's too short." He said and cleared his throat. Lapis smiled in anticipation

"Take a melody,

Simple as can be.

Give it some words, and

Sweet harmony

Raise your voices

All day long now-"

"Love grows strong now,

Sing a melody of love, oh love" Lapis finished. Robert felt it in his heart, his soul, and his mind that what she sang was indeed the fourth part of the sacred song. They tried again, only this time in unison.

"Take a melody,

Simple as can be.

Give it some words, and

Sweet harmony.

Raise your voices

All day long now,

Love grows strong now,

Sing a melody of love, oh love!"

When they finished, they stared at each other in stunned silence. "You have the voice of an angel." Robert said. He leaned over to Lapis, and kissed her cheek, in the same spot she kissed his yesterday. "Now we're even" he smirked. "I guess we are." She responded. They hugged tightly, and Robert left and headed home to get some rest and process what just happened.

When he got home, Steven was awake with a smirk plastered across his face. "I know what just happened, lover boy" He teased. "I wouldn't be so smug Mr. Harem" He cracked. Then he remembered the note for Amethyst in his bag. He laid it in front of the Gem's door and went to sleep

To be continued...

Question for the chapter:

Do you think Amedot should be in this? Why or why not?
