Chapter One

AVERY'S POV
"Promise you'll wait for me" The melodious voice of Johnny drille filled the room with an energizing aura as I struggled to get the job done.
Johnny drille's music was kind of my jam.
"Who you waiting for?" Henry yelled from the living room probably watching a football match with the twins.
"Johnny!" I teased.
I've always wanted to travel to Nigeria to see him live but life as the vampire ruler and Avery was time taking. I had to make due with what I had.
The broth was ready and I could not wait to pour in the diced Iris potatoes.
"News flash~Athenrim on fire as boy is burnt beyond recognition."
It turned out Henry was watching the morning news and that headline got my attention. Something sinister hadn't taken place in a long time. It made me stop my cooking and rush into the living room to know more.
The reporter gave more details om the incident. Apparently the incident took place at the river, Stillriver.
Who the hell would kill a young boy? The body was too disfigured to be fire. It almost looked like the boy had been taken somewhere and burnt alive for hours until he had no flesh or DNA remnant, the report also stated that dental records showed no result.
Could this be a serial killer?
"What a way to kill a beautiful morning!" Henry grumbled.
"Really?" I teased.
CCCRrinngg! The landline screeched calling my attention.
Wiping my foodstained hands on my apron, I picked the call.
"Avery speaking."
"Avery..."
"Kalim!"
It's been ages since I heard from Kalim. He had been pretty busy being ruling the faeblood, a thing that was not so hard for me since i shared a mindlink with the vampires.
"Hello! What's going on Kalim?"
"I'm at the murder site and...we need your help.
***
Yellow tapes bearing the words keep away spun around like a spider web. It made me cringe.
I crossed tye line and walked to Kalim who was beckoning on me. Humans were also at the scene, some shaking their head in pity and others just plain, unreadable.
"What do you think happened?" I queried, taking my eyes off the ash on the earth. The body had been deposited into a black plastic bag and taken into a van.
"I thought it was a ritualist at first but it's something else."
That said, Kalim looked around cautiously and led me to the river.
"What are we doing here? I see nothing." I said.
"Touch the water."
I did. The water was warm, a normal occurence for a warm morning.
"It's lukewarm!"
Kalim stared at me blankly and touched the water himself. I saw his eyes flicker green and a ball of light burst out of his hand into the water.
"Woah! What was that?" I queried.
"It's Orvinus. It's the same way I felt Everytime I touched the skull."
His Revealation unsettling me a bit.
"No! No!... Kalim, we-cant do this! It just accidental. There's peace."
Kalim was queit for some time before he said,
"I know but the book of prophesy said I would free Orvinus. Do you think it did this?"
I walked closer to Kalim and staring into his emerald orb, i gave him my answer,
"I think it's just a coincidence and maybe the skull is still in Athenrim so you can feel its power."
"I really hope you are right Avery. It tough being King already."
I laughed at his complaint. He was always on duties and visits to the other faeblood realm spread around the continent. It eas hard and u understood his fear, as King, he would have to protect his people and humanity like he was meant to.
I Pat his back and left.
The crime scene was becoming crowdy as the small crowd metamorphosed into a swarm of bees.
I gently pushed through them grateful that i was full.
I was so preoccupied with the heart beats and the pulsing veins that i lost sight of where I was going.
Ugggh!
I tripped on a small pebble and went for the ground.
Luckily someone grabbed me before I gashed my nose or something. Firm hands as sturdy as a branch, it had to be a man. My saviour pulled me up and I looked into his eyes.
Hypnotising!
The shimmering green sphere's petrifying me with that depends stare. It took me a while to get my senses back.
"Thank you Mister..." I shyly expressed and brushed his hands off my back. They weren't the same without them.
"It's no problem." His equally firm voice said.
Even if I shouldn't, i was tempted to look.
He had jet black hair, a little rough and was dressed in a jacket, a tough choice for the heated morning. His face was chiselled to perfection by God and his lips was a temptation any woman would hardly refuse.
You shouldn't! I resisted by my lust. I had someone already.
It was awkward that he did not move or talk.much, he just had that stare all over me and it was getting pretty uncomfortable.
"I-ha-ve to go!" I said and walked away with zeal.
"Goodbye Dena." I heard him say.
It was beyond creepy. I quickened my steps and did not turn back. He might have mistaken me for somebody but all I wanted to do now was go home and call Matilda.
***
"Hey!" I aknowledged Henry seeing he was home and feeding on beef.
"How was it?" He asked.
I gave him a reassuring smile and told him it was fine, for a barbaric murder. I had to leave Kalim's theory out of this, there was no need to creep him out too.
I went to the refrigerator and poured myself a pint of blood, something greenish was inside, a side effect of preserving blood.
It reminded me of the mysterious man that saved me.
"You have that look."
I blushed noticing Henry was watching me.
"What look?" I quizzed innocently and took a mouthful of blood.
"When you want to do-something."
I knew what he meant.
"I didn't know wolves were in heat this time of the month." I teased.
He gave me an intense look and toddled my path.
"We don't have a season for beautiful women." He whispered wickedly.
His hands were already roaming me, blessing me in guilty pleasures.
"I just met the weirdest man."
Whatever i said made Henry stop. I groaned in regret. Henry retracted his hands and walked back sit on a sofa.
He was fuming and i could tell it was only his wolf.
"I said weird." I really wanted to ease the tension i had caused.
"Come on Henry!" I punched his lean arms.
His smile returned and I knew it was the perfect time for a session.
I leaped on his laps and pulled his head closer to my bossom nudging him to mess with them.
His tongue went to work and I soon felt tremors all over with each wet touch and moan.
I bit on his neck drawing blood amd my nails dug Dipper into his flesh with each ecstasy his intruding tongue offered.
My clothes went off and...
"What the!!" Henry exclaimed.
I opened my eyes cursing whatever stopped him.
His hands were on a part of my back that suddenly stung.
"What's there?" I queried.
Henry stopped our make out session and placed me on the sofa in a way that my back was facing him.
"Marks." He uttered.
I wasn't satisfied with his reply. It was far too plain and it hardly described the overwhelming stinging i now felt down there.
I struggle to get a good view of the ugly scars tattoed to my back. Three in number and far to huge to be Henry. He was always gentle when handling me. I ran a finger into the stinging would pondering on why it hadn't healed.
The only explanation was the weird man who saved me earlier.
I glared at my reflection getting the puzzle.
Yes! It was him! Was he werewolf?
The feeling of dread suddenly engulfed me. He had called me Dena, Did he think I was his?
Henry's mother has told me fables of past weres and how their wolves worked. It would not be an accident if he or his wolf thought i was his.
Maybe Kalim was right, something is coming.
