Chapter 8
I kept myself busy all day, working on my mountain of laundry and the things that I wanted to do while everyone was at work. I pulled my laundry out of the dryer as I switched over what I had in the washer. I threw another load in the washer and started it. I sighed as I started to fold up the clothes and put them neatly on the washer. I kept myself pretty busy all day, making my pile of laundry shrink as the day went by. I did a lot during the day, including a small lunch break in between. It surprised me that I didn't hear from B-Project all day, but knowing Tsubasa, she probably stopped them every time they tried. I continued to fold as my pile shrunk down by the minute. The house was quiet with cars passing by every once in a while, but not enough to be noisy. The silence was giving me flashbacks to the hotel life, the many silent nights all alone. I took a deep breath as I kept thinking of different things to keep the subject off my mind. "They'll be back later. Just keep working," I said to myself, as I turned on the dryer and started on another wash.
Once I was done folding my clothes, I picked up the basket and started to go towards the bedroom. I put the basket on the dresser and took a glimpse out the window. I saw a few people walking down the street, laughing over something they were talking about. I smiled for a moment at the couple but lost it quickly. Seeing the two made me feel alone again. I looked back down at the basket of clothes, studying the basket as I lowered the shirt in my hands. I took a deep breath as I heard a door shut, but I just realized it was my imagination. I focused on the silence of the house and how it's been silent all day. I glanced over at the time, as I spoke to myself. "What time did they say they'd be home?" I asked myself as I studied the alarm clock. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, then turned to the basket again. I opened the dresser as I started to organize it, filling it up with the clothes that were freshly cleaned. I kept thinking about everything that happened when I heard chuckling over in the living room. "They couldn't be back yet. They're probably busy and I'm just going crazy," I said as I shook my head. I started to fold again as I heard a voice. "Iris, we're home," Yuzuki's voice rang through my head. All of a sudden, the house was getting noisier and I was having a hard time realizing that it was just my imagination. I closed my eyes, as laughter rang through my mind. It reminded me of the other night when we all had a pool tournament down in the basement.
The memory made me smile, as a slight tear fell down my cheek. I closed my eyes as I put down my shirt, hearing more voices. "Is she even home?" another voice asked as Yuzuki's voice spoke again. "I dunno. I'll be back," his voice spoke as I whipped a tear from my eye. At this point, I tried to settle down, focusing on the footsteps that walked through the kitchen. The front door opened again as more voices came through the house. Finally, a knock came on the door. Feeling tears down my cheek, I looked at the door, seeing Yuzuki standing there. He was studying me with a confused look on his face. Yuzuki walked in as he spoke. "What's the matter, Iris?" he asked, as he knelt down next to me. Without thought, I gave him a tight hug and came to the realization that I wasn't imaging it. I felt him return the hug as he spoke. "Are you ok Iris?" he asked, trying to keep his voice calm. I could hear the worry in his voice when he asked the question. I took a deep breath as I spoke in a shaky tone. "I thought I was going crazy. I didn't realize you were home," I said, as I started to take deep breaths. Yuzuki sighed as the hug became tighter, more comforting.
Walking came into the room as another voice spoke. "Is she ok in here?" Akane's voice asked as I looked to find him standing at the door. He had a hand on the frame of the door and a worried look on his face. Yuzuki turned to him as he spoke. "Yeah, Iris was just feeling lonely again" he explained. Akane nodded as he spoke. "You want some sibling time or do you mind if I come in as well?" he asked as Yuzuki turned to me. I shrugged, not knowing what I wanted at this point. "You can join if you want. I'm just going to go back to finishing up laundry" I explained as I got up and whipped the last of my tears. I grabbed my basket as I started to go back to work. Yuzuki sat at my desk while Akane sat on the bed. I sighed as I spoke. "This is why I wanted a job right off," I said, as Yuzuki sighed. "Iris, you just moved in. Take your time with it," he reminded me. I sighed as I shook my head. "I felt like I did at the hotel. It made me feel all alone," I said, as I realized what I just said. I sighed as I dropped my head in disappointment. "I said more than I wanted you to know," I explained, as Yuzuki placed a hand on my shoulder. "It's ok Iris. I'm glad you shared that. I also wish you share more with us" he said as I looked at him. I dropped my head again. "Sorry, bad habit" I explained as Akane spoke. "Now we know more about how your feeling" he explained, as Yuzuki nodded. "It takes a lot to get you to share your emotions. But I'm glad you're finally sharing more with us" he explained. I looked at him as I sighed. "Yeah, because Haruhi made me at the hotel," I explained. The two started to laugh as Yuzuki spoke. "Yep, and he'll make you share more" he explained. I sighed as I went back to my basket as I worked on putting more clothes away.
I finished clearing the basket, as I stood and picked up the basket. "I'm going to put this away," I said, as I started to walk out of the bedroom, with both Yuzuki and Akane following me out. I heard footsteps following me as Yuzuki walked back in. "How much longer until your next load?" he asked, as I looked at the machine. "About an hour. Why?" I asked as I turned to him. Yuzuki shrugged. "No reason. Thought you wanted to get out for a while" he explained. I sighed. "I still have a few loads to do" I explained. Yuzuki sighed as he spoke. "You're doing it again," he said, his voice sounding more like a wine. I looked at Yuzuki for a brief moment, as I chuckled. "Oh boy," I said, with a laugh. Akane laughed his head off for a few moments, then finally found a voice to speak. "Why did you sound like your brother for a moment?" he asked, as laughter filled his voice again. I shook my head as I studied the machine. The time still was a while until it was finished.
Yuzuki cracked a smile. "Got out at all, today?" he asked as I shook my head. "No, didn't get out much today. Why do I feel like you want something?" I asked, taking his tone as a warning. Yuzuki shrugged. "Wanna take a walk? It's sunny out" he said, as I turned to the machine again. "I should probably organize some more," I said in an apologetic tone. I looked back at Yuzuki, seeing his little puppy eyes. "But you've been working all day," he said. I studied him for a few moments, then glanced at Akane, who was still laughing. "See what I have to deal with?" I asked as he shook his head. "At least Haruhi isn't doing it with him" he explained as I sighed. "Got a point there," I said, as I turned to Yuzuki, who was still giving me his puppy eyes. Finally, I took a deep breath. "Let me grab a sweatshirt," I said, as I walked past the two and into the guest room. Yuzuki walked by the door. "Thank you, Iris," he said, as I sighed and stayed silent.
I shuffled through my closet to find a solid grey hoodie with black strings and zippers. I threw the hoodie on as I looked at my reflection in the window. Finally, I turned and started to walk with the two. Yuzuki studied me with a smirk on his face. "What? Making sure it's clean," I said, as Yuzuki sighed. "You need a mirror in here," he said, with a slight chuckle in his voice. I walked out of the room as I turned off the light. "And what's so funny about using the window?" I asked as Yuzuki sighed. "It just looks weird. Good thing your room is towards the backyard," he said, as I looked at the floor in embarrassment. "Your right. It is weird," I said, as we walked towards the living room.
I followed Yuzuki through the living room and towards the front door when I heard a chuckle. Yuzuki, Akane and I looked towards the couch to find Moons sitting on the couch. "Got bodyguards there Iris?" Mikado asked with a chuckle. I shrugged. "That or I'm in trouble for something," I said as Yuzuki glanced back at me without a word. He shook his head as he spoke. "We're going for a walk if anyone wants to join," he explained. Instantly, Hikaru stood up. "A walk doesn't sound that bad," he said, as he grabbed his shoes. Mikado sighed as he studied Yuzuki. "Where are you planning on going?" he asked as Yuzuki shrugged. "I dunno. I wanted to show Iris around town a bit" he explained. Mikado nodded as he got comfortable. "I'll pass for today. But I appreciate the offer though" he said, as Yuzuki gave a smile. "No problem." Yuzuki started to walk upstairs as he spoke. "I'm going to see if anyone else wants to go," he said, as he jogged up the stairs. I leaned up against the railing and looked out the window as I waited patiently.
Walking came through the hall as the basement door shut and Hikaru came out with a pair of sneakers. "Forgot they were down there," he said, as I tried not to say anything. Knowing them being idols, they probably had different attire for different events. I shifted to look out the window again as I kept quiet. Mikado cleared his voice as he spoke. "Had a good day today Iris?" he asked, which caught my attention. I turned to face him as I spoke. "Yeah. Kept pretty busy today. Got a lot done" I explained. Mikado nodded. "That's good. Your brothers couldn't wait to come home," he explained. Hikaru chuckled as he stood from tieing his sneakers. "Yuzuki kept telling Haruhi not to bug that much" he explained as I nodded. "Yeah, I could see that. They were pretty upset when they found out," I explained. Mikado sighed as he went back to what he was doing. "I would too if I had a sibling in that situation. It made them worry," he explained. Hikaru smiled as he spoke. "Probably made the rest of us worry about her too," he said to Mikado. Mikado nodded. "Probably. But you seem to be doing better since you came here, which everyone's happy to see" he explained. Footsteps came up from the basement as Haruhi came out, with Thrives following him. "Alright, you guys ready?" he asked as I nodded. "Ready when you are," I said, as he started for the door. "Alright, let's go take a tour," he said, as he started to walk out. "Good luck Iris," Kazuna said with a laugh. I turned to wave as our group left the house.
