Chapter 7
I woke up feeling a lot better than I did since I left home. I was completely awake and felt ready to tackle the things I needed to get done. The house was full of voices and movements, with the clanking of dishes from the kitchen and the scent of freshly cooked food, drifting through the air. I opened my eyes to look out the window, seeing the curtains drifting in front of them, letting just a little bit of the light within the room. I looked at the side table seeing the clock as it read six thirty. I yawned as I sat up, trying to wake up enough to go see B-project before they left for work. I sat there with sleep still in my eyes, as I slowly looked at the floor. A light appeared in four little cubes, with dark lines to represent the window on the carpet. My bags of dirty laundry were stacked together in the far corner where I left them, open to show what was in them. I heard footsteps go down the stairs above, as voices started to yell. Shortly after, a lot of shushing as I heard Tsubasa speak. "Keep it down guys, Iris is still sleeping," she explained as the rooms next door became silent. I smiled as I shifted out of bed and got out completely. I walked over to the chair near the closet as I went through the little tote bag. I pulled out a little black sweater and threw it on to get rid of the chill that I was feeling. I looked around, seeing the bags of laundry that still had to get done and let out a little sigh. "Well, I'll be home to do it," I said, as I heard clanking in the kitchen. A few loud voices, followed by some shushing. "Dude. Lower your tone, Iris is still sleeping" Haruhi's voice said, as I jolted in surprise. If I remember back when we were kids, Haruhi was the loud one out of us three. I heard a slight whisper as the boys started to chuckle.
I smiled at the sound of them, as I started to make my way over towards the door. I opened the door, as I walked out of my room, seeing the bathroom door shut and the shower going. I shut the door completely, then walked more into the kitchen and living room. Sitting at the table was Tsubasa, Thrives, Moons and Killer King. They were all talking and getting ready for the day as Tsubasa turned around. "Morning Iris. Were we too loud for you?" she asked as I shook my head. "No. I was awake before you got loud. And if you did, it wouldn't be the first," I explained, as I walked more into the room. "I didn't wake you up?" Haruhi asked as I shook my head. "Not this time. I slept through half of it." A slight chuckle came from the opposite side of the room as Kento spoke. "I'm surprised. Yuuta is usually very loud, even in the morning," he said, as I chuckled. "I did hear you. But still, your all set," I said, as I looked out the window. I studied the outside more, seeing the morning sun still glaring through the window. I watched as the branches swayed in the wind, which made me wonder how cold it was outside. I was starting to go through my thoughts as another voice snapped me out of it. "There's a plate wrapped in the fridge if you're hungry," Momotarou said, as I watch him point to the fridge over on the right corner of the room. I nodded as I started to walk to get it. "Thank you. You didn't have to," I said as I started to walk to the fridge. "You might have to heat it up though. We started cooking a while ago," he explained as I pulled the plate out of the fridge. It held a good sized omelet, all ready for the microwave. I started to walk over as I spoke. "You boys really didn't have to do that. I would've figured something out," I explained.
"What did you do for food when you lived at the hotel?" Yuzuki asked as I waited for the microwave. "I usually made a deal with a restaurant where I'd work to pay a meal off. I couldn't work full time because I had to find another place to go for the next night," I explained. Haruhi smiled as he spoke. "At least you still kept up with your meals," he said, as I nodded. "Yeah. It was very hard, but I had to do something. Right?" I asked as Haruhi looked up at me. "Or you could've called your older brothers for help," he said, as I looked at him. "You're still hurt by that?" I asked as he chuckled. "Well yeah. You went through all of that when you could've just called us," he said, as I laughed. "I didn't want to bother you," I reminded. A few of the boys chuckled as Haruhi spoke. "Iris, you're not bothering us," he said, as I took another bite. The room fell into a deep silence for a moment, due to everyone eating. Finally, Akane broke it again. "Do you two do this every morning?" he asked as Yuzuki sighed. "Only when Haruhi gets worried," he explained. I looked over at him as I spoke. "You joined him at the hotel," I reminded. Yuzuki tilted his face to the ceiling as he studied it. He took a deep sigh then spoke. "That's because you were homeless. You're not now, so I don't have to worry that much," he said, as Haruhi turned to him. "Traitor," he said jokingly.
The room uproared in laughter as Tsubasa spoke. "So, your arguments. How did you deal with them?" she asked, as Goushi spoke quickly after. "How did your mom deal with it?" he asked as the three of us just looked at each other. Yuzuki looked back down as he spoke. "We worked them out eventually. Usually, it was more of Haruhi wanting Iris to play and she didn't want to. I was pulled into the middle," he explained. Haruhi looked at him, then looked to the group. "Yuzuki was the deal breaker. When we argued too much, he pretty much told us what to do after that. Our mom let us work it out unless all three of us got too bad." I chuckled in remembrance of one in particular. "Like that day," I said, bringing it up. Yuzuki started to laugh as Haruhi looked at me. "Which day?" he asked as I looked at him. "That day at the park," I reminded him again. Still, Haruhi watched me in confusion. "I'm so lost," he said, as Yuzuki chuckled. "Haruhi, that day with Iris's little stuffed horse?" he reminded again. Finally, Haruhi nodded as he remembered. "Oh, that day. Yeah, let's not go there," he said. "What exactly happened that day?" Hikaru asked as the three of us turned to each other. "That'll stay between us," Yuzuki said as I nodded. "Definitely won't be told to anyone," I said, with a sigh. The rest of B-project turned to us in surprise. "You three keeping secrets now?" Kento asked, trying to be nosey. Yuzuki sighed. "Just embarrassing moments that we promised not to tell." I chuckled as I spoke. "If you wanted to go through embarrassing stuff." Yuzuki turned to me. "Iris, we're not going there," he said, as I kept to myself. I chuckled as I started to eat again. "Fine. It'll make the day a whole lot interesting," I said, as he sighed. "We're still not going there," he said again. I huffed as I finally let him win. "Alright. I'm joking anyway," I calmed him with. "Thank you," he said, taking his next bite. I looked at him as I chewed silently to myself.
The room fell into silence as I studied out the window again. We all went back to our meals due to the end of the conversation. I focused the sound of everyone and noticed that even though everyone was eating, it still wasn't too silent. It was a little weird, but I didn't care at all. I was glad that I was up in time to at least eat with everyone. "You going to be alright here by yourself today Iris?" Miroku asked as I nodded. "Yeah. I have some things to get done around here. I'll be fine," I said, as Kazuna looked up. "You could come with us if you wanted. If that's ok with everyone," he said, as I shook my head. "No thank you. I'll be fine on my own for a while," I said, as Tsubasa jolted like she just remembered something. She put her plate down as she spoke. "I'll be right back," she said as she walked out of the room, passing the rest of B-Project that just sluggishly walked into the room. "Morning" Tomohisha said as he and Ryuuji walked into the room. "Food's in the fridge," Mikado said as the two went to the fridge. Ryuuji glanced at me for a brief moment as he spoke. "Sleep well?" he asked as I nodded. "I did. Thank you," I said, as I went back to my plate. "That's great to hear. You look more rested today," Tomohisha brought up. I nodded until I found a moment to speak. "I feel a lot better," I said. Miroku looked up from the table. "Did you sleep well at the motels?" he asked as I shrugged. "I did, but it was hard. I got more rest last night than I did in a while," I explained.
I looked down at my plate as I spoke. "That's one of the things that I wanted to work on before I start job hunting. There's a lot of things I want to do before I think about that," I said as Yuzuki looked up. "Take your time Iris. Make sure you're ok before you think of a job," he reminded me. I sighed as I nodded. "I will. I'm just going to have to change that mindset" I said, as a chuckle entered the room. "I think we all should agree on that we all are going to hound her on that one" Momotarou said, as everyone nodded in sync. I chuckled as I took another bite. "I'll give everyone permission to annoy me too," I said, as the boys chuckled. "Good. Because there's a lot of us that'll take it to their advantage," Mikado said, as to warn me about it. I chuckled as I just shook my head. "You guys can annoy me, I don't care," I said as walking came down the hallway.
"Here Iris," Tsubasa said as she handed me a folded up paper. I put my fork down as I took it, looking at it in confusion. I opened it up to see a list of names and numbers, including her's. "We thought you should have everyone's number just in case you need anything while we're gone," she said, as I looked up at her. "Thank you. I'll try not to bother you at work" I said, as I put the paper aside. "And for emergencies, we put our work number on their too. Just in case we're busy," Mikado pointed out. I looked at the paper again as I noticed that the numbers were labeled. I nodded. "Alright. Thank you very much" I said as I went back to my plate. Haruhi looked up as he spoke. "Are you sure you're going to be all set by yourself?" he asked, still being the worried older brother. I sighed along with Tsubasa. "Guys, Iris is going to be alright and if she needs anything, she'll call us" Tsubasa explained, settling the boys down. I looked at Haruhi as I spoke. "Focus on your work, guys. I'll still be here when you get back," I said, as Haruhi looked up. "Promise?" he asked as I looked up at him. He was watching me with a scared look like I'll run away from being lonely. I gave a calming smile as I spoke. "Promise," I said, as he went back to his breakfast. I smiled as I went to mine, while everyone ate in silence.
