Chapter 31 - Relations

Peter's P.O.V

A few days passed and I was allowed to go back to school. No one really bothered me and I told Ned and MJ about what happened during the days I was gone.

I hadn't really been in contact with them very much since the attack, which I apologized a hell lot for. Thankfully, they weren't angry and were very understanding.

.

"Peter, you coming or not?" Ned calls out from down the empty hallway. MJ is next to him, eyeing me suspiciously.

"Uhh... You guys can go without me!" I say, taking a book out of my bag, "I gotta head to the library!"

"You want us to wait for you?" Ned asks, looking up at MJ, then back at me.

"No, that's okay. You can go. I'll see you guys tomorrow!" I yell as I start towards the library.

"Alright! See you tomorrow!" Ned yells back and he and MJ walks out of the doors, MJ waving me a goodbye.

It only takes a few minutes before I'm outside the library. I carefully open the door and peak my head inside, seeing it completely deserted. I step in and make my way over to the desk where you can leave books. I put the book on the desk and look around warily, hearing footsteps behind some shelves.

"Hello?" I call out and suddenly there's a thump sound by some shelves and I hear I quiet grunt. A small smile creeps its way onto my lips.

"I'm coming, I'm coming..." A slightly hoarse voice calls back.

The first thing I always look at is his big sunglasses that just fits perfectly with his whole face. Why he wears sunglasses inside, no one will ever know.

"Oh, Pete! Long time no see!" Mr. Lee says as he spots me.

"Hello Mr. Lee." I smile and he walks over to me.

"How are you Pete?" He asks as he walks over to a chair and sits down. "I hope you're not getting into too much trouble." He laughs and I sit down in the chair next to his.

"No no... Heh, don't worry." I say.

"So where have you been these past days? School's been awfully quiet with out'ya." He laughs, picking up a comic from a table beside him.

"Oh... Umm, Some... Just some family business. Nothing much." I answer, leaning back in my chair, also picking up a comic. I notice Mr. Lee eyeing me suspiciously. "B-but don't worry! Everything's good now!" I quickly explain.

"That's good." He hums. "Look kid, I'm sorry 'bout your aunt." He has a sad expression for a second before it turns slightly dark. "Well... kind of."

"Oh... uhh, thanks?" I look at him confused and he gives me a knowing look.

"You must be some kind of wizard Mr. Lee." I chuckle and he just shrugs his shoulders and gives me a wink.

"But I'm no Dr. Strange." He says, putting the comic on his lap and imitating Stephen's weird hand gestures he does when doing magic.

"Nice," I laugh, "Though, I think it's something more like this." I put the comic on a table and stand up, imitating Stephen with over exaggerated moves.

"I think we've found the next Sorcerer Supreme." Mr. Lee huffs a laugh.

I fall back in my chair and we laugh until our stomachs hurt too much. I start coughing but quickly catch my breath again.

"So where you livin' now?" He asks. "Any friend you could live with or has the 'glorious government' already stepped in?" I chuckle a little.

"Heh, actually..." I scratch the back of my head, "I'm... I'm kind of getting adopted."

I look over at Mr. Lee and a warm smile forms on his face. His expression is soft and I think I could even make out tears forming in his eyes, but he quickly ushered them away.

"I'm really happy for you Peter." He says, his smile growing widder. He stands up and drags me up from my chair, pulling me into a warm embrace.

For a moment, I'm caught by surprise. But I quickly wrap my arms around him and we stay like that for a few seconds before breaking apart and he ruffles my hair, to my dismay. But I can't keep up a frown and starts smiling again.

"So, you wanna see my latest comic?" He asks, already knowing my answer.

"That shouldn't even be a question." I laugh, following him over to his desk. He pulls up a small box and opens it.

Inside lay some action figures of some of the Avengers, a few key chains and under them are a few comic books.

Mr. Lee loves comic book and decided that he was going to make some of his own. Though... he doesn't really use original charachters. He uses the Avengers and writes different adventures for the characters. Then he has a friend draw the adventures for him. Because in his own words,

"I'm a writer, not an artist!"

I can tell the comic at the top is the newest one and he carefully pulls it out from under all the items on top of it. He hands it too me and a smile immediately appears on my face.

"Spider-Man, huh?" I smile, looking up at him before looking back down and flipping through some of the first few pages.

"He is my favorite." Mr. Lee shrugs his shoulders, pulling up a Spider-Man keychain from the box.

Now, I have seen people walk around with Spider-Man merch from time to time and it always warms my heart. But seeing Mr. Lee with the Spider-Man keychain, I am overwhelmed with emotions.

"Thank you Mr. Lee." I say and he pats my shoulder.

"So, how about I tell you the plot?" He asks and I nod.

.

.

"Bye Mr. Lee!" I call out as I make my way out of the door.

"Bye Pete! Take care! I hope everything goes well with the adoption!" He says and I nod a goodbye.

I start heading towards the exit, giving Happy a quick call, telling me I'm done with the 'errand' I told him about this morning. He mostly just huffed in response and told me he'd be here in around 10 minutes or so.

I walk out of the school and step down to the curb. Cars and people are passing by the school and I figure I can sit down and wait on one of the benches by the school.

I turn back towards the building and I now notice someone already occupying one of the benches next to the school entrance.

Flash looks up from his phone, scowling at me before bringing his attention back to the phone in his hands.

I let out a sigh and walk up the steps to the building, sitting down on the other bench next to the entrance. I take my phone out as well and start playing some random game I downloaded but I notice Flash glancing at me from time to time. So after a few minutes of his silent judgment, I put my phone away and look straight at him.

"What?" I snap and he looks at me slightly caught off guard.

"Nothing." He answers quickly.

"Then why are you looking at me?" I ask, my tone a bit too harsh for my liking and I immediately notice Flash flinch from my volume.

"Just..." He trails off for a second, "Since when do you sit and wait outside the school?"

"How do you know that I don't do it on a regular basis?"

"Because I'd know." He answers.

"Would you now?" I hum.

"Yes. Because I sit and wait here everyday and I haven't seen you wait here before. So yes, Parker. I would know." His tone is cold and I get a feeling there's much more to it. He drifts his eyes away from me.

"Why?" I ask, my tone a little lighter.

"Huh?" He looks back at me.

"Why do you have to wait? I mean..." I pause, seeing Happy's car pull onto the curb, "Don't you have someone that drives you?" I ask.

"Well... uhh... yeah but..." He stops for a second, looking like a deer in headlights before clearing his throat and looking away from me. "But I don't have to tell you anything!" He responds quickly.

I nod a little to myself, standing up and shouldering my backpack.

"No, you don't." I say lightly. "But... Taking from my own  experiences, it's nice, y'know, to just talk to someone sometimes. Get that thing bothering you off your chest, y'know?" I give him and awkward smile before turning around and starting my way towards the car.

"Parker!" Flash calls out before I can open the car door. He quickly walks over to me, looking slightly hesitant, but continues over to me.

I mentally prepare myself for what's about to ensue, wondering where he'll hit me first. But instead, he holds his hand out, catching me by surprise.

"... Thanks..." He mutters and I look at him, then down at his hand before looking back up at him again. I awkwardly shake his hand and he takes a few steps back. I give him an awkward smile again and get into the car.

Happy immediately starts driving as I put my seatbelt on and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"Who's the kid?" Happy asks suddenly.

"Just a kid from my class..." I mumble, leaing back in my seat, looking out the window.

The rest of the ride was silent and as Happy parked the car in the garage, I jumped out, waved him goodbye and stepped into the elevator.

"Penthouse please." I say and the elevator starts moving. When the doors open I step out and head for my room, where I leave my backpack. I take a quick shower, then I walk back into the living room but I freeze in the hallway when I see someone I don't recognize sit on one of the couches.

He's clad in all black and it looks like he's waiting for something or someone. I get a feeling that it'd be a grave mistake to piss him off so I try to sneak over to the elevator but just as I'm about to reach it, my spidey sense is telling me he's watching me.

I gulp and stand a little straighter, slowly turning to look at him. As I see his face and his eyepatch I realize who's in the room.

"Well who do we have here?" Nick Fury asks and I can tell he's tired.

"Umm... P-Peter, sir... Peter Parker." I stammer and he nods. The look in his... eye, is quite unsettling.

"Ah. Right, the 'assisstant' Stark mentioned a while back." He says, still looking at me.

"Oh... umm... Y-yeah, I guess. Well... uhh... It was... It was nice meeting you Mr. Fury but I have to go, bye." I say quickly, walking over to the elevator and getting in. He doesn't say anything else and when the doors close I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. "Man... that was scary... Friday, could you take me to the workshop?"

"Alright Peter." The A.I. answers and the elevator starts moving.

When the doors open and I step in, I realize it's quieter than usual. I walk over to my desk, then look over at Tony's and I see he's fast asleep, his head in his arms, leaning on the table. I start smiling and take a blanket from one of the couches and put it over him.

"Friday?" I whisper, "When did he last sleep?"

"Boss was awake for nearly 2 days." Friday whispers back.

"Has he been living on coffee again?"

"Of course, the usual."

"Whoa, watch the sass there." I chuckle, walking over to my desk. But I soon realize I have nothing to do. While I was recovering, we fixed my suit since it had been kind of torn from the last fight.

I look back over at Tony. Then I look out the window.

"Patrol couldn't hurt..." I mumble as I stand up and take my suit from where it was sitting on another desk. "Friday, if I'm not back when he wakes up, tell him I'm out destroying property and evading people's personal space."

"That is awfully specific." I hear a voice say behind me and I quickly turn around and see Nat. "And last time I checked, that's not really your job."

"So what you're saying is there's a job where you do that?" I challenge.

"Maybe. Who knows." She smiles and I walk past her into the elevator and she follows. "Heard you met Nick."

"Is he gone?" I whisper and he she continues to smile.

"yeah, don't worry. He left not that long ago." She answers and I nod. When the doors open, I step out and wave her goodbye before descending to my room. I change into my suit and open the window and jump out, starting to swing around the city.

.

I'm perched on a roof, taking a quick pause when I hear someone behind me. I quickly turn around, preparing myself for whoever's there, but I stop when I see who it is.

"Oh, it's just you." I say, sitting back down on the ledge.

"Just me? How rude." Deadpool says offended and I let out a sigh.

"What do you wan-" I start but he cuts me off by shoving a filled plastic bag in front of my face and sitting down next to me.

"Well, I was hungry, so I bought food. But y'know, it's much better eating with someone and I just so happened to see you here." He explains, taking out a hamburger and handing it to me. I look at it for a moment. "Don't worry, it's just a cheeseburger from McDonalds."

"...Thanks." I say, hesitantly taking it from him and looking down at it, then looking back at him again. He takes out another burger and pulls his mask over his nose. The part of his face I can see is covered in scaring and it looks like his skin was turned inside out.

I guess I look a little too long because he notices my staring.

"Disgusting, isn't it?" He laughs with his mouth full. "Don't worry about it kiddie. Happens to the best of us."

"I'm not a kid!" I object. "And you say that like it's something you just stumble upon." I say, pulling my mask up just above my mouth and finally taking a bite out of my burger.

"Well... Yes, if you have cancer and meet some dude called Francis and he tells you he can cure your cancer so you can go back to the love of your life but you just end up with a hideous appearance and mutant powers which means you can't die and then when the love of your life finally accepts you for who you am and how you look...  She's killed off like some... some background character."

His voice cracked at the end and I look at him shocked. And even though I can't see his face, his posture is more slumped and he's stopped eating, just looking out over the city.

"Shit... I'm... I'm sorry dude..." I say, genuinely sorry.

"It's okay kiddie. I'm alright now," A small smile forms on his lips, "I... I found a new family."

I nod and we sit in silence for a few minutes just enjoying the food.

"How old are you?" I ask out of the blue. It's a question that's appears in the back of my mind everytime I meet him since he seems to be an adult but he can really act like a child sometimes.

"Well, haven't your parents taught you it's rude to ask a person for their age?" He says.

"No." I answer simply. I look up at him and for a moment, he looks shocked. But he quickly puts on an unproblematic smile.

"I see..." He hums. "Hmm, now let's see... How old am I again? Sorry kiddie, I kind of stopped counting my age when I realized I couldn't die. But if I had to guess... I'd be around 30 something...?"

"Wow, you're old." I joke.

"Could be older. Could be younger." he shrugs his shoulder. "And I'll just guess you're on the younger side of the spectrum."

"Maybe, maybe not. Maybe I'm, like, 20 but I'm just really short." I say.

"Sure kiddie." He says and I stand up.

"For the last time, I'm not a kid." I sneer but he just shrugs his shoulders.

You're younger than me, which makes you a kid."

"Ugh... whatever..." I sigh. "Uhh... but thanks for the burger and... uhh... have a lovely evening...? I guess?"

"Yeah, you too Kiddie." He smiles and I roll my eyes even though he can't see it. "Be careful when you swing home. Wouldn't wanna get cramps, would we?"

Yeah yeah..." I hum. "Well... uhh... Bye!" I say, jumping off the building and starting to swing home.

"Bye Kiddie!" Deadpool yells out and I flip him off.

.

"Destroying property and evading people's personal space, huh?" Tony says as I enter the workshop.

"Sleeping beauty's finally awake. How was your sleep princess?" I say with a smirk.

"Watch the sass young man." Tony says as I sit down on a chair by my desk.

"Okay daaad~" I joke. I thought it was just something light hearted, but then I look over at Tony and he has a soft smile on his face. "R-right... You're kind of my... dad now..." I say embarrassed, my face turning red.

"Heh... yeah." He hums. An awkward silence enters the room. "Well. Anything you need help with?"

"Uhh... Nah. Not... not really." I smile and he nods. We start to work on our own things. Me, doing some homework and Tony probably upgrading his suit even more (as usual).

"Hey Pete?" He says suddenly.

"Yeah?" I answer.

"Remember that time you insulted my height?"

"I did wHaT???

A/N

Hello!
How are everyone today?

I hope everyone are having a good summer so far!

I brought back Stan the Man as the librarian because I just love writing him like that. I just feel that he fits that persona so well.

On an unrelated note,

I have a question.
It's kind of  long so skip if you want. It has nothing to do with the story and it's just more of me ranting about something.

Is there a such thing as over-complimenting?
So a compliment in this case is like saying good job or something similar,
Now hear me out!

What I mean is that sometimes when a parent compliments their child too much for the smallest of things or just something the child feels isn't worth needing a compliment, the encouragement loses its meaning because you hear the words so often, it starts to mean nothing to you.
But then when you show your parent something that really means something to you or that you're really anxious about, it just doesn't feel genuine.

But please don't get me wrong. Complimenting/encouraging your child is good and parents should do it. But I'm talking about when you hear it so much you can't tell when your parents are serious or when they just say it. Especially if the parents use the same tone they use when complimenting the child for things that have no value.

I know it sounds very spoiled since the parents just want to show their love and there are kids who don't even get any compliments from their parents but it's just something that's been nagging me. I am, for example, very anxious about showing people my art because for me, it's really bad and I often hate it.
So when I do show it to my parents, They often use the same tone for they when complimenting things I find have no value. Which leads me to be more anxious about my art because I get the feeling they think the art is bad.

Okay, rant over!

I'm really sorry about the rant! It's just that I don't really have anyone to talk to about this and I know I sound really spoiled ranting about it, but I just needed to get it off my chest.

Anyways...

That's All For Now Folks!

G'night, G'day and G'morning!

/Twizz
